integrity of this board by members

reciently i,ve had several dealings with a few board member who,ve committed to buying parts, so i took the time to cherry pick for them & remove parts per there requestand in one case haul part 200 miles ( for free with a no show ) and in another case package, get shipping quotes and have everything ready to go when payment arrives. and then there know where to be found, wont answer emails, wont answer phone callls not even the slightest courtesy to pm, email or call and cancel. people the integrity of this site is very high but to keep it please if you do not intend to carry through with your deals dont make them. there is things we all need to do and take care of besides risking injury ( from removeing big heavy parts ) and time lost for taking the time to help you out with antique parts. its very frustrateing. from now on any parts i have that can or will be sold will be paid for in advance before any effort has been spent on anything to do with the parts. a few have ruined it for the rest.i,ve herd from others who sell this same story several times.....
regretfully

Yup. Integrity of this board IS vital. It keeps us from having to waste our time on e-bay and losing some money to a third party. I'd hate to think that we need to set up a 'feedback' scoring system on this board. yikes!

Bob... you know my $$ is on the way.
Bob is a good guy. We and I have had dealings before, and out of trust, he was dropping off almost $50 worth of stuff at DHL, as I was at the post office getting a money order. I'll probably have these parts mounted on my burb before he sees any green.
THAT... is a good member to have.
I've been burned in the same way he has just described.

This needs to be seen by everyone.

People, keep our board clean and honest. It's a good community.

I know this isn't necessarily the "correct" forum, but it will get more views here than anywhere...

bob.. I know it wasn't to me.
I was useing our transaction, and your actions based on faith and previouse transactions, to show that you are a good trusting man who will go out of your way and go above and beyond to make the deal.
If you had any question what so ever on if I was sending the money... you woulda locked up my parts untill the money order got there and was inspected and cashed.

Shawn, honestly, I think I may have seen something. I have a stack of mail sitting downstairs that I haven't gone through yet. I know I don't have any bills due for another week, so the mail has been a little low on my priority list. (I had thought all my sold parts were paid for and shipped already)
Since I left for Washington, EVERYTHING has been a blur. Heck, I have yet to do laundry since before I left to get the burb. (I have lotsa clothes) It's been a steady flow of crap bombarded on Andy for 2 weeks now, starting the day i got home.

2 min later...
Yeah shawn, I have your funds here. Give me a couple days to get it ready and it'll be out. Like I said, I thought everything was gone already. My apologies on not bein ready for you.

I catch myself getting excited about things and then having to step back and say "I can't do it right now" and let things pass - I can see it happening to others but they don't pull up.
I've been holding my tongue on this and still think I should but this kills me - I've sent a few things and the money never shows.. ask a few times, hear the hard luck story so I say "Let it slide this time, it's on me"... The next thing I see is a post about the new intake or carb or PARTS TRUCK someone just bought... and I can't afford the intake or carb I want STILL! - Anywho, glad it's off my chest.
(and GOD I hope I don't owe anybody anything at the moment.. pretty sure I don't.....)

why not mention these loosers names, so they can feel like the loosers they are. But they probably won't thats kinda the way loosers are. but also the rest of us will know who they are, so we don't have to deal with them and get srcewed around aswell. Just my 2 cents.

I think it is good to make people aware of what we go through to sell an item, but any more references to actual members and I will have to lock the thread. Please keep on topic.

Ive been on this board for going on 6 years. I haven't sold a ton, but Ive bought a lot of stuff. No problems with any transaction that come to mind. Heck I even sold a burb to some fella back in Ohio, and that went smooth as silk too.

Sorry you've run into some bad transactions. Dont give up on the board members. Considering how many members there are I guess there are bound to be a few that are less the stellar.

Re: integrity of this board by members

I haven't sold anything on this board, but have on other boards and I went through the same thing. Though I haven't had nearly the problems as I have with people from craigslist.

They'll call, set up times to meet up to look at this or that, and then I end up waiting around for hours in hopes that they'll show up soon. And nothing. And they don't have the common courtisy to make a simple call. How hard is it to pick up a phone and call a person and say you're not coming? I have enough things to do than sit around and wait for someone to buy my $20 part.

First contact the admins if their is fraud going on. If it's the above situation.... we have a REVIEW BOARD to post dealings with members. Now be aware that sticking to the facts (not feelings) of the deal is required (no name calling, flaming, etc). But if you don't review the transaction, then no one else has a clue and may wind up in the same situation as you.

I joined this board simply because it's members seemed honest and forthright. had many dealings with members (drew67, blazerman, wugunguy, etc) and they have all been fantastic. I hope the practice of bad dealings is only sporadic!!!

I,LL NOT POST NO NAMES i probably should have not even posted what i did. guess i was just upset as all of the members who i,ve bought from have treated me so nice i figured i should show the same respect to others in turn who i sell my mere pittance to as i,am not a vendor just a hobbyist. all i,am gonna say and i,ll ask for forgiveness in my prayers for being upset and forgive also. that old devil sure know how and when to give you a good kickin......

Unfortunately it happens, I get frustrated with it too. I guess some members do not think about the time it takes to get part pulled, getting shipping prices, finding boxes, then boxing, shipping part, etc. Its happened to me a few times, I just mark down names on a list I have and try not to deal with the ones that do it.

Bob, its good that you posted this way hopefully the other party will make it right. I've bought and sold here and never a problem. Thats what makes this board so great. And have met many members in person. All great to talk and deal with. But like in the past there is a always a bad apple or two. So whoever it is that this deal is about make it right!!! Its the right thing to do!!

None of us is any better than the word we give. In treating people the way you want to be treated, situations such as this don't come to rear their ugly heads. While there may have been a very good reason for a no-show, to be incommunicado via phone or email is just not sportsmanlike.

You have been helpful to me (engine fan details) with no expectations or cost and I appreciate that kind of character. Hopefully these are isolated event.

Sorry to here Bob. I hope things improve for you. I have been buying parts off here for a long time and I admit it gets scary sometimes. I try to make a difference buy communicating with the seller. You always have a board brother here.
On a good note, This is a great place to come and be a part of. I wouldn't trade it for the world.

My limited buying experience on this board has been 100% positive. But I also realize that it's impossible to keep a 100% track record. I think that 99.999% of the guys and gals (mods included :) ) are honest, helpful, fair, and forthright. It is sad :whine: that a few have to darken the board with unjust dealings. Lets all learn from this experience and continue to support each other as we ourselves would want to be treated. This board is better than any magazine one could buy and the $25 site supporter fee is a real bargin. Remember...a board is only as good as the membership I still have faith in the people on this board!! :metal:

Bob, I'm sorry to read that you have run into the other side of human nature ..... not a pretty sight. I'm glad that you posted this as how are these few people going to realize what they are doing is wrong. It's sad but this is a reflection on the society that we live in. On a positive note members have pointed out here on this post that there are people that belong to the board (99%) that are good upstanding members and that is what we must keep focused on.

Oh by the way Bob I've read your posts and you are a real asset to the the board.

Hang in there buddy,

Re: integrity of this board by members

I've never had a problem with anything I have bought from a board member, so I feel good about it. Haven't sold anything, but have helped a few board memebers low on funds with the item "free" that I took off and no longer need.

The only thing that bothers me is the deceit I have seen once in awhile with some items for sale; offering it up as deal from a trusted board member and praying on those that “may not know” the item isn’t going to fit as eluded to and the seller is evasive about photos or fit/function just to recoup their cash.

I have been here almost two years now and have bought and sold things here and the last thing I bought I never received. I know alot of you guys don't like ebay but at least there you have a chance of getting your money back. As they say it only takes one bad apple to spoil the barrel. enough said!

For the Most Part i am just a Buyer, Both Here & on Evil. Life is too short to waste it away dealing with People like you mentioned. I think it is a Great Asset to all Board Member's that you along with other's Here go the Extra Mile to Help out Member's Here. Let's Face it when all is Considered, You are Probably only Making Break even on the Stuff you are Selling.............................

I will say that all Dealing's that i've had on this Board would have to be Rated at A+++.

Good Luck with all future Dealing's & Again I want to Thank You & Other Board Member's That Provide this Service for the Rest of Us, With out you Guy's we would all be Left at the Mercy of The Pirate's on The Bay...............

Sorry for the Rant, Just wanted to Make You & Other Member's That Sell Realize that We Appreciate the Effort you Put Forth...........

A few thoughts on finishing last:
  • From a womans's point of view: Do nice guys always come last????? Only if they know what their doing.
  • From author Alexander Kjerulf: That’s just not true, of course we should be nice at work. This doesn’t mean that you have to be nice to all of the people all of the time, but it means that you absolutely can be a nice person and succeed in business. I previously wrote about jerks at work and why they’re bad for business. The conclusion: Unpleasant people hurt the bottom line. In a networked world reputation matters, and it’s more important to be generous and likeable than to be ruthless and efficient.
  • Luke 13:30 Indeed there are those who are last who will be first, and first who will be last."

What's wrong with a feedback system? LS1tech has one and it seems to work pretty well. From my experience 99% of members here are stand-up people, but you guys are right that it's the few who ruin it for the many. So a feedback system would be a deterrent for those who can't keep their word, and a way to give recognition to those who do. My dos pesos...;)

Re: integrity of this board by members

I must say that everyone that I was fortunate enough to deal with have been very informative and just plain great with the buisness end of things. I have been able to find parts for my truck that would have been next to impossible to get here in Jersey. I can't thank those responsible enough. I think that the people who consider ourselves to be a kind of a brotherhood would never dream of deliberatly trying to shaft another member. E-mail has made all of these transactions so impersonal and some people forget that there is a real person with their own life and all the things that go with it at the other end. When I was a boy, a very wise old man told me " In life you only pick up what you put down." I try to live by that. Lane
