Another junkyard find thread... :)

Thx to bowtieogre for giving me the tip, a local upullit recently got a 91 burb, one of those regency customs, remember those? lol
Anyway, went out this morning, got the electronic speedo cluster, and power mirrors!
woohoo. I made 2 trips, I was trying to get the steering wheel off, and those cheap puller bolts stripped and bent...so I swapped it out, same thing on 2nd one! So Bowtieogre, your steering wheel is still there! Sorry, I tried dude, will need some better bolts.
I did grab the mint horn cap for you!
Also, I must have left or dropped one connector on the power mirror harness, I guess I'll just have to go back and look for it. Anyone have rpo codes for a 91 burb? I want to see what rearend has in it, the glovebox and sticker are there and in mint condition, for now. Spent $45
Some pics...

Nice, that cluster is in better shape than I remember.

When i thought about it I remember I called my wife and asked her to look up the RPO code for the rear end...its GU6 (3.42) and I dont remember seeing G80.

i'll look tomorrow...no calls til about 1:30.. :)
Bad thing is the burb did not have the mirror switches on the panels. Guess I gotta wait.

Re: Another junkyard find thread... :)

Im going to borrow your thread since my item in question was pulled from the same yard only a few days before.

My question is this guys and gals...I found a '79 cluster with a factory tach and I want to know what you all think about giving it the white face treatment. It has some rust on the speedo and tach face, that is the ONLY reason I would consider it. I figure I can sand down the pitted areas, apply the new faces and have a sweet stock cluster with a custom twist.

That sound ok or will I get strung up by my toes?

Those mirrors look great!Do they fit in the factoryholes in the doors?
What does a set like that cost?

Re: Another junkyard find thread... :)

As far as factory holes, for the power mirror option, yes, for manual, no. But just a few holes and that's it. I got the bolts, gaskets, I still have to get the mounting plate. It goes inside the door to the inside of the outer skin.
How much they cost? hmmm, if you can find them grab them! It's a discontinued part.
I have not seen any through regular channels like lmc or the likes.
I think I am going back out saturday to get the mounting plate and try not to make a mess. :)
You can find these mirrors on 90-91 burbs, crewcabs and full size blazers. Keep your eyes out to see what they look like installed, pretty sharp.

Wow that looks good!WhereŽd you get those faces?
That would help me with my highspeed problem if i just put a 100 mph face on the 85 mph scale ithink!

I got them on Ebay but you can buy them directly from their website (in many other colors as well) at whitegauges.net for $20 in standard white.

Sp how simple was it? I read the step by step instructions and i wonder if it was really that easy...

Also, does it make your backlighting look brighter with the white guages?

I havent had the chance to put them in the truck yet but it took me about 15 minutes to take it apart, clean it and put the white faces on. The only thing that I was worried about was the post on the oil pressure gauge but I lined the face up over it and pushed down lightly and it popped right thru and lined up nicely.

When someone mentions that seller (AKA durangedesign), I always like to point out that he has spammed this board (and others...) in the past, trying to drum up business. He would register as "durangedesign", then say "Check out theses cool gauge overlays I bought!!!!" After he was booted for that, he registered at least once with a different name, and did it again. That got him booted again.

I consider that to be dishonest, and I won't deal with crooks no matter how nice their products are or how cheap they sell them.

BTW, I know it is him because the domain name for his site is registered to "Durangedesign."

Please not that there is also a brace bar that mount to the inner door shell, wraps around the front of the widow channel and serves as one of the 3 mounting posts for the mirror. It helps to stabilize the mirror and outer skin from flexing.

Had I known I might have looked further for a gauge overlay but I thought these were good quality and the price was right and I was pleased with how easy they were to install and how they looked.

Spamming is one thing I can't stand either. But on the other hand... if someone has a good to excellent quality product and they wish to get the word out about it without loosing half their reproductive organs in mainstream advertising costs, provided of course they don't set up a 'bot response system, where's the harm? I picked up a set of of these overlays from them as well and I too like the looks, feel, and ease of installation of the products they offer.

It is one thing to say "I sell this product." It is something entirely different to say "I'm a fellow consumer who is really impressed with this product." That's dishonest. Doing it multiple times after being banned, is despicable.

I'm sure Josh would have let them advertise here for a small fee.

To those of you who bought the product not knowing the history, and are satisfied with the product, that's great. I have no problem whatsoever with you. I just like to tell people how the vendor has operated in the past so that they can make their own decision based on their own ethics.

I have heard both good and bad things about his products over the years. I don't like the look of the white faced gauges, so the quality and price of the product make no difference to me. The decision whether or not to do business with him is yours.

The person on the board that made them was Chevychic. I'm not sure if she's still doing that since she moved from Oregon to Minnesota.

4 Attachment(s)
You have to drill 4 new holes for these mirrors to fit and weld or plug the other 3 holes up where the original "CLAMSHELL" style mirrors mounted up at. I chose to use some 1/2" diameter plastic body plugs and silicone on mine for the time being since body shops up here want $600.00 PER DOOR to do it!
As you can see in the pics below, 2 of the original 3 holes are exposed while the last one is hidden behind the new base.
The top front edge lines up with the vent window channel with clearance enough to open the vent. also pictured is the controller for the mirrors mounted on the drivers door panel.

ya, I know about the brackets, I just have not had time to take apart the door to get them, if I do go and get them, I'll post pics so others will know what they look like. The support brace is welded to the plate inside door. A member pm'ed me and I know where I can find the door switch. I have the harness. :)
thx, mirrors look good. I might get the windows, there are in perfect shape. Can't have too many spare parts. :)

BLE 'BURBAN 11-17-2007 11:25 PM

Re: Another junkyard find thread... :)

I was looking at my mirrors earlier today to see if I could move the further forward on the door without interference with the fenders because I am thinking about going the one piece glass in my doors and do away with the vent windows that I never use. It looks like it can be done but further testing and measurements need to be done before I make my final decision.
