3/4 ton rims - 8 lug
Okay - so I have the 16.5 rims and tires on my new project truck and I did a search on here for 8 lug rims to see what else is out there...lots of posts - but few pix (mostly due the the age of the post). The rims and tires on the truck are fine, but figured I would check out what others are running so I can keep my eyes open in the future should I need to move away from the 16.5 tires when they need replaced (difficult to find the 16.5 tires).
So I would like to see what you guys are running. From the pix I have seen I like the Western Wheel Tubines (Dukes of Hazzard rim) and the (8 lug) slots, but they seem quite difficult to find...are these the holy grail of 8 lug rims. Let's see those 8 lug rims. |

I've got '06 2500HD take-offs on my truck. You have to buy conversion lug nuts(i got mine on eBay), and I think they look really good.

Stock Wheels for me all the way. The first are from a 72 C-20. Those were the 16.5's. But the second are from a 71 K-20. These were 16" rims off a mid 80's chevy van, but the correct hub caps snapped right in!!!!!

Re: 3/4 ton rims - 8 lug
I just bought some chrome hubcaps and I am also going with a black rim behind them........
Where can I find a rim that would take the caps and a 35-12.5-16 or 16.5??? I would trade the slots with lugs for some 16 or 16.5 X 10's or 8's if it would work... that would accept the factory caps!!!!......lugs alone were $65.00!!!! A......... |

The widest STOCK rim from GM was 8.25 x 16.5 shown below with a 33 x 12.5 x 16.5 tire. The aftermarket rims like the ones I have shown above are 9.75 x 16.5 and there are some of them around with outer nubs for standard caps. Fewer around with inner nubs or clips.

Re: 3/4 ton rims - 8 lug
grovmister, Would those caps fit on a '68 3/4 ton 8-lug wheel? Does the '72 have the same 3/4 lug as the '68? I thought they changed at some point the series. Longhorn Man knows!!!!!!!!!!

Re: 3/4 ton rims - 8 lug
I just had my 16.5 x 8.25's sand blasted. Took em to the painters to have him do em up in a nice stock white. I'm starting to waffle (I do that alot) on the tire size now. Was gonna go 33 12.5 BFG all terrain, but now after looking at some pictures on the stock 4x4 thread, I may go with something less aggressive looking and not quite as wide.
Here is the thread Im talking about if you havent seen it yet. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=130727 |
Re: 3/4 ton rims - 8 lug
Looking at my original '68 Chevrolet sales brochure...weren't all those wheels supposed to be Argent silver? At least in '68 they were (and on my '68 Longhorn) if they were stock. I know the Argent silver does not really "pop" like white on a stock two tone truck. I guess nobody is doing a 100 pt. restoration.
Mark, Are you done with those 16.5's on your green truck...or are those the ones you just had blasted? I would use them and have them coated green just like the truck...go for the REAL sleeper look with the poverty caps. I love that look but, like a good scotch,...you have to develop a taste for it...LOL! |

Done with the wheels soon. I'm trading them for a nice split bench seat out of an old Impala. I had been looking for one for ages and board member 72cheyennesuper20 happened to notice I had mentioned it in passing in a thread and offered me a trade. (Wow that was a long sentence lol) Worked out great for both of us. |
Re: 3/4 ton rims - 8 lug
Good job...I remember that post now. So what are you having blasted and coated? Widest stock wheel, at least up until '68, was 8.25 (bead to bead). 9.75's were after market...but you know that.

Re: 3/4 ton rims - 8 lug
8.25's

Re: 3/4 ton rims - 8 lug
Got one set of those too...LOL!
pmpski_1...LOL...NFS...I just love posting pictures of them. There was a set on craigslist this week for $135...smoking deal...with tires. I had a chance at them but I have two sets already and was thinking that I only had two 3/4 ton trucks. When I realized that I actually have 3.5 3/4 ton trucks it was too late.:waah: |

Here is a neat comparsion between tires and rims sizes that were popular in the 60's and 70's. This way you would know if your vehicle would sit level or at a rake. Lot of camper pickups would run 7.50-16 on the front and wide base 12.5-16.5 on the rear and be level or older 3/4 tons would have run 7.00-15 on the front and 10-16.5 in the rear and be level. Of course, they could run all the same sizes and be level. The problem would have been fender clearance on the wider rims.Clearance was not a problem on the 67-72's, but was a problem on the rear of 60-66's, both with Chevys and Fords.

That is sorta pretty funny, I was in the same boat!!!! I too was tired of trying to find 16.5" tires , let alone the darn cost of em. I searched in many mags over a couple of years, trying to decide style, let alone size, I finally found a wheel that didnt look too modern , for an older truck, but than again not too vintage, or fancy for what I was lookn for, I found a picture in the back of a truckn mag, it was the size of a quarter, I called em up and talked to a sales guy for about five minutes and had four wheels , caps , stems , aired up and balanced on the way, after I put a big dent in my credit card, I opted for a set of center lines 18" wheels mounted with tires and delivered on my back porch, boy was I anxious to get home that day.... anyway, you need to take your time in deciding, its an important look and can cost dearly, good luck

I believe the lug pattern to be the same, but my truck is a camper special, wheels are 2006 HD takeoffs, and I had fitment issues with the full floating rear end and the stock caps. Some guys either don't run the rear caps, or cut a hole in the center for clearance. I purchased a pair of rear caps off ebay from a dually and shaved the backside down, so that they fit flush with the wheel. I have $330 in wheels, tires, caps, and conversion lugs, and am happy with the wheels and the cost. grove |

Dieseleater....here are the two styles of slots. The first set of wheels have the shallow step...the second wheel does not have the step. I prefer the cleaner look without the step. All of these wheels are 9.75 wide. I have heard that the wheels with the shallow step are for trucks with front disc brakes but have never compared the back sides of them to verify that.
