LINK

It sure is a nice truck, but the interior color combo is a bit odd.

Re: 79 Chev 650 original miles

That is the first time I have EVER seen a console cupholder insert anything but black.

Nice truck, but I question its originality.

That truck has been on the market for quite some time... He has been looking to get $35 000 for it.

I personally don't believe the interior is original, GM wouldn't have mixed and matched stuff like that... Its a nice truck, no doubt, but you won't catch me dropping 35k on one like it, build one yourself that is even nicer for half the cost...

Age old discussion, of course you can build the truck for less, but it still won't be a low mileage original like this one if it is the real deal.

Is it worth $25-35K? that is up to the buyer if there is one :D

that interior i doubt is original but if you look close at the pics the seats have covers and ther are different mats on the floor.. the original color is red i bet ya the guy painted the door panels and console white i dont recall ever seeing white ones as stock and any GM white interior was never as glossy

Re: 79 Chev 650 original miles

It's in Alberta, Canada, but the plate is Louisiana. That's little more than 650 miles... (I know... auto haulers...)

But, still a nice truck. Grille looks a bit wrong and the seats don't sit even...

But, still a nice truck.

I'm with you guys on the interior. The thing that throws me off is the seatbelts. I sure would like to see it in person.

Re: 79 Chev 650 original miles

Thanks for fixing my link, I'm not sure what i did wrong there. I'm with everyone else on the interior I have never seen white seat belts before. Would the original option code list show this as an option?

Re: 79 Chev 650 original miles

In 1979 Chevy had 5 interior colors. They had Carmine Red, Camel Tan, Blue, Green. and Mystic Oyster White. The seats could be had in vinyl, custom vinyl and custom velour cloth materials. The seats and door panels do look wrong. The cab interior side and roof moldings match the seat color in this truck. The grill is correct for this truck. The grill with chrome trim was optional even for a Silverado. The seatbelts appear correct. Also the license plate is West Virginia, not Louisiana.

Re: 79 Chev 650 original miles

my grandpa had a '79 Blazer that he bought in '96 or so that had that same exact interior color scheme. we thought it was pieced together then, now i'm starting to wonder if it was, and this is, original.

Re: 79 Chev 650 original miles

Suspect interior... if it's factory, the interior color scheme is kind of weird... heavy duty longbed is cool but I don't know if it's 35k cool... imo 77-78 was the peak of the round headlight era, 79's extra chrome didn't flow very well up front. All in all a cool truck, though, I'd like to check it out up close and personal.

yeah, i remember it too russ.it's kinda cool to look at.but,it does throw a few red flags on that interior.but maybe some dude did a little customizing somewhere along the line.we,ve all done that.

I emailed and asked for a pic of the glovebox trim tag . Response was that the truck is in storage and pics werent possible at this time . If I am the seller , I usually do what is asked of a potential bidder . Frank

87Wrangler454 02-15-2008 06:17 AM

Re: 79 Chev 650 original miles

You have got that right Frank, not being able to send out pics throws out a serious red flag especially what you asked for, since that would clear up a lot of questions. I guess he is not serious about selling.

I've seen colors like that in a Blazer before...must have something to do with the seats.

Its a nice truck but not for that money.... I have never seen a interior combo like that before, I would change that sucker to all red!!!!!

I used to have a '79 Cutlass with that same interior color combo. White seats and door panels with red carpet and dash. I don't remember the color of the seatbelts, though.

Re: 79 Chev 650 original miles

I've poured over the ebay photos and actually it all looks correct to me. Though it does look like a customer order from the factory due to the color combo. I have witnessed one factory color combo in the past that was tan with blue seats and headliner or some combination of those colors. You want to talk about ugly.

All the inspection dabs, chalk marks, and paper tabs also look correct. A couple things that are throwing me is the tires. They do not look factory or like a factory option. And the grill looks like a non silverado, non chrome version.

One thing I would do would be to ask for pictures of all the glass and mirror date codes, as well as all the light lens date codes.

Re: 79 Chev 650 original miles

I wouldnt pay that much for an old truck anyway. Sure its low miles, but why would you spend that much for it? Things like Barret Jackson have warped peoples minds or something. $10k I could see, its a nice truck with plenty of service life left, but who in their right mind collects 79 long bed 4x4s? That market is kinda small compared to who would like to have a Hemi Cuda or a ZL1 Camaro.

People think because its old its automatically super valuable. Rare does not always mean desirable, sure the AMC Matador in pink with the 6 cylinder and a gold interior is rare and old, but who would want one like that?

The chrome grill was not standard in 1979 with any of the 5 interior packages. The grill on this truck is correct. The chrome grill could be ordered individually, with the exterior appearance package code V22 or with the "Sport trim" package which included it as standard. Silverado packages did not include chrome grill. It was optional.

That truck is very nice. I love it with the black grille, looks awesome. I'm with you guys on that interior though. Correct me if I'm wrong, that steering wheel looks like an 80's era? Those seats and door panels can't be factory. Those door panels are super glossy, almost like a cadillac interior from that era. Awesome truck, not for the price.

Re: 79 Chev 650 original miles

The interior is original. that is the same interior that was in my 79 big block swb truck. my cup holders were black. i din't have the floor mats. it is just like the one i had. my was all original.

Lets put this interior issue to rest. It is factory! This is straight from a 1979 Chevy dealer book.

Re: 79 Chev 650 original miles

That's the proof we all have been looking for, something in writing, so I guess it is what the seller says it is, too bad he wouldn't post a picture of the code sheet from the glove box on his auction site, that would show a potential buyer it is what it is. As of to-day I notice no bids, out of my price bracket anyway, but it would be nice to find something with no rust.

This truck was on Ebay a couple years ago.

At that point, it had the same West Virginia plates and was for sale in New York. I'm guessing this thing has been passed around a bit. It had 638 miles in that auction.

Here's the build sheet and options sticker from there. The 74I on the build sheet indicates the carmine (red) interior color and the 12W gives the secondary color of Mystic (white).

Thanks Joe, I guess that answers all our questions, surprising he did not post this info. on his auction this time. He did not receive any bids and the auction closed.

Ooo, oo! Me me!

Just kidding... bleh! (did they really make that?? Clearly people were taking a lot of drugs in the 70's!)

It's a wonderful color isn't it. Well I grew up with it because that's the way Dad ordered it back in the day. May he was part of that 70ish scene. Hooah!

The console is original color, just not faded like the rest. When the truck was brought home from the dealership, Dad acquired a blue pillow to place over it as a cushion (mice finally got to it last year).
