I sold the $25 burban today for $500. The plan is for a 66 blazer with a removable top. as soon as the 62 is roadworthy, we will get the body of the beast of burdin and start shortening it and figuring out the top. here a couple of pics of how it sits now and the last 2 pics are of the new project 65 hearse because it has barn doors, the blue one has clam shell doors.

here are some rudimentery photo chops.
I would figure a way to take the front visor/overhang off with the roof, I tried leaving it ,and it did not look good.

Re: 66 blazer build

Well, no progress on the blazer project. But the hearse project is about to get started. Jon and I moved it over to his place a couple weeks ago and thursday afternoon we were able to get it to run and move under its own power. And the lil 6 banger runs pretty good. Its going to need a fuel pump and a carb kit, maybe a few gaskets, but seems to be fairly road worthy. Now all I need to do is get it home to rexburg ID from missoula MT.

Re: 66 blazer build

No pics yet, but some updates on progress on the hearse burb. ordered all the patches for the floor and rockers, also lined up a new fuel pump and carb kit. should be able to drag it home at the end of next week. I will get some pics up as soon as I get it loaded.

Re: 66 blazer build

I got the burb home with the help from Jon from jonzcustomshop, We got it running pretty good and it loaded under its own power. Got it home with no problems and started the rust repair, which ended up being more severe than I thought. Plans where full floor pans, outer floor, inner and outer rockers and cab supports. But now I am looking at lower door posts and toe boards.ugh! And boy did I forget how much fun rust repair is. At any rate, the wife allowed me to buy some fancy tools to make the job easier. So $380 later I am covered in 40 year old chevy grunge and playing we my new toys. it was a good day and tomarrow should be even more fun as I contiue the fun on the passenger side. I cant wait to see what surprizes it has in store for me. I would also like to Thank Jon for all his help and work on my junk. I know you are reading this, Thanks again man!

Re: 66 blazer build

Not much progress yet, between the weather and being sick as hell, I havent done much. I did rebuild the carb for the second time since the kit I got the first time was junk and didnt come with a new pump or float specs. now she really runs like a top. hung the clean drivers door and got the new door post and rocker in. Finally got all of my new parts from classic parts and should gain some ground this weekend. Seats are out for new custom skins and the burban will get the same treatment as soon as the rust is gone. got the floor shifter in and cut off my wifes right arm at the elbow for a shifter handle. She's not impressed but I like it. Also finally got my glass front fenders today, so I also got to change the front clip out this weekend as well. Pics go up sunday night if I get anything done. Keep in touch Jon! I am going to stop by next time I am in town.

Re: 66 blazer build

Derric...where did you get your glass front fenders from. I'm curious what the quality is like. I've heard some of the glass parts are crap....

kdrodworks316 06-08-2008 01:38 AM

Re: 66 blazer build

I got them from a buddy of mine, traded them for the $25 burban. He got them from US BODY SOURCE and they proudly made in the USA. www.usbodysource.com I dont know how they fit yet, but I will give a full report after I install them. they seem very well made, but the finish leaves alot to be desired, they are very rough around the seams. The resined on tag gives finishing instructions and suggestions. They are just shy of $800 for the heavy duty on their site plus shipping. I'll get some pics up tomarrow and let everyone know how I feel about them.

Re: 66 blazer build

holy cr#p thats alot of money for fenders!
Bet they won't rust!

At one time ( I still want to, but I don't have that kind of money) I wanted to put together an entire glass truck using the US body source parts.
I thought a glass truck with a twin turbo smallblock, and "vet etr" on the plates, would be the ultimate sleeper.
this was about the time that the gmc cyclones were coming out, so along time ago.....

Yeah that does seem like a lot for a pait of fenders. You would think for that price they would be nicer than the ones kd has. But like you said Jon they won't rust!

For the longest time I've been wanting to get the one piece front end with a 4" cowl hood. Those still aren't a bad deal @$1500.00.....25+ years ago they were ~$1100.00

well I got a bit done on the hearse today, replaced the drivers inner fender and put on the glass fender. The fit looks ok in the fading daylight, but havent totally finished bolting it all on. Look at what I got to play with today.....it is a 1962 Stageway that a buddy and me built for a lodge in jackson hole, Wyoming.....and I have located a longer 6 door. Dont even ask where because I'm not telling.

Re: 66 blazer build

Have I metioned latley how much fun rust repair is? Oh and how well aftermarket patch panels fit on a rusty beat to death suburban. GRRRRR! Oh ya, I almost forgot about the fiberglass front fenders that don't work with repop inner fenders. I did get all of the rusty front sheetmetal off today and put on my less rusty grille apron and the new inner fenders. Also got the toe boards and most of the floor clamped in place. May get the drivers side finised on saturday, then I can loss the rest of my hair on the passenger side. I am going in for knee surgery on tuesday, so I wont be working on the hearse for a couple weeks. I dont think the docter will be impressed if I have to go back because I unfix my knee lowering the burb.
Anyway, on a lighter note. I went cruising in the Stageway thursday night and man the chicks are diggin that big long bus. heads turnin and thumbs up everywhere we went.

jonzcustomshop 06-14-2008 08:27 AM

Re: 66 blazer build

rust repair is no fun... at least you knew yours was rusty to start...
Those repop inners are nice, but take a little coaxing to get in to place.
mine had the steering column cover holes wrong.. three on the top were NOT punched out with nuts spotted on, and the bottom 2 had nuts spotted, when all they require are a sheetmetal screw.
they were still easier than rust repair though.

man those were the pics i was gonna send you! was just there last thursday. its right there on state street in boise, about 4 miles west of downtown.

they want 4,000 for that silver one. its got a four speed with stock power steering, after market a/c and the gmc v six motor. pretty cool setup

Re: 66 blazer build

The drivers side is all but done! If my welder would have not quit, it would be done. Now to repeat on the passenger side and say more adult words till its in, if I can fix the welder.
