Here's my truck. John Deer Blitz Black
I just recently had my truck painted and had a bed liner sprayed in. I decdided to go with John Deer Blitz black (tractor paint.) I didn't have the money to do a show quailty paint job and I didn't want to ride around wtih that chalky primer look so I settled for the $35 tractor paint. I figured if it's tough enough for a tractor it should hold up pretty well on my truck... Until I get gloss at least. Hope you like it! Comments welcome!
What do you think of the grille? Tried something I have never seen before. http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i2...ck81grille.jpg http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i2...ack81front.jpg The mirror holes just got shaved today and the doors were repainted, I thought it looked a little cleaner. http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i2...lack81side.jpg Tailgate band is being painted now so I'll post more pictures with it later. http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i2...lack81back.jpg |

Re: Here's my truck. John Deer Blitz Black
oh and if you can't tell we love chevys. Yes that is a '98 camrao (fully loaded with t-tops) and an almost bran new Silverado sitting behind my truck.

Re: Here's my truck. John Deer Blitz Black
Love everything about it. The paint, grille. That's the kind of paint look I want on my truck, and I'm in the same situation as you. The paint on my truck is actually tractor paint as well, but it's chipped and scratched and I want a flatter look; since I'm never gonna be able to attain that professional gloss look (without a lot of money and help) anyway.

Re: Here's my truck. John Deer Blitz Black
Hey thanks for all the comments guys! I dont have a shiney dime to spend on my truck so I just do what I can. I got the paint from a John Deere Dealership for $35 per gallon. It took right at a gallon to shoot the whole truck. I believe you can also purchase it online.
I have a question for yall. Should I put these 20s on my truck? http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i2...lack81rims.jpg I dont really want to mess with the suspension to much because you have to slow down for every speed bump ya know. We messured out the 20s with tires and overall they should hit right below the fender which would fill up the whole fender well really nice and I think that might eliminate having to drop it. What do you think? |
Re: Here's my truck. John Deer Blitz Black
I think those wheels, along with the flat black, would look really nice. I say go for it.
|
Re: Here's my truck. John Deer Blitz Black
Just bought a 84 short bed like yours and am drooling over the look
you have . I'll have to find that paint and the wheels Hell yes !! post more pics when you can Mark |
Re: Here's my truck. John Deer Blitz Black
that paint looks awesome. i got a 5/7 drop on mine and i never have to slow down for bumps and i never bottom out it made the ride quality better
|
Re: Here's my truck. John Deer Blitz Black
i say go for it. even though i had 20's on mine and i did a 2/4 drop and it was just above the tires.

Re: Here's my truck. John Deer Blitz Black
Thanks for all the comments guys. I've always wanted to design a vehicle and finally got my chance. This weekend I am having the tailgate band painted and installed as well as a custom interior.
I want my center console to have a built in 12" sub, laptop, and HANDS FREE cell phone capabilities which will play directly though my stereo and speakers. I have black cloth bucket seats for now. NO CARPET! Black Polyvinyl intead! Less smell, dirt, easy to clean, etc. Still undecided on the 20s but I'm leaning towards Yes. Only thing is I wont be able to burnout as much cuz those tires i hear are pretty pricey. What would you all think of a back and copper interior instead of black and burshed aluminum? I have brushed aluminum now but thought about doing a copper them since I have never seen one. |
Re: Here's my truck. John Deer Blitz Black
WOW, that looks great! I really like what you did to the grill also :metal: You can have a custom truck with elbow grease and a little creativity. That's what I'm doin also. David

Re: Here's my truck. John Deer Blitz Black

Oh and I just bought some black marine grade vinyl today to wrap my headliner, center console, and maybe my doors. Still undecided on the copper accessories instead of bruhed aluminum....? |
Re: Here's my truck. John Deer Blitz Black
would copper be a hassel to keep up. like what i mean is would the copper get dirty or old looking quickly ..
and if you do decide to go with the copper let me know if you want to sell your old interior. |
Re: Here's my truck. John Deer Blitz Black
Well it wouldn't be actual copper. I would paint the brushed aluminum with a copper color and give the appearance of REAL copper. Your right, real copper may turn green and be really hard to clean and may also require a clear coat on it.
Not sure if I will stick with the idea but I've never seen it done before so I'm leaning on it pretty hard. I figured I would go with copper accessories with black vinyl and maybe ostrich skin accent as well. Still not sure. |
Re: Here's my truck. John Deer Blitz Black
is it legal to drive around with your license plate blacked out like that? Grille looks tough as hell. Nice truck! Drop it and go for the 20's.
|
Re: Here's my truck. John Deer Blitz Black
Tough lookin truck.
My vote goes for the 20's you posted above and the Copper tone trim.. |
Re: Here's my truck. John Deer Blitz Black
I would drop it 2/3 and put 20x9's on it, but thats just my opinion. Btw I love JD paint, my dad works for a dealer and he buys it all the time.
|
Re: Here's my truck. John Deer Blitz Black
that looks really good!
|
Re: Here's my truck. John Deer Blitz Black
How about some JD green?

Re: Here's my truck. John Deer Blitz Black
Well guys it's still a work in progress. I gutted my interior and made some changes. I took out the old torn up head liner and attempted to clean it up and wrap it in black vinyl. It came out pretty good. It has a few bumps when you look at it in the sunlight but when your in it you can't really notice. Check it out.
http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i2...iberboard1.jpg http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i2...fiberboard.jpg it looked bran new underneith the headliner http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i2...w/bareroof.jpg Here is what it looks like now. cost me like $70. The vinyl was only $30 but the heavy duty spray adhesive I got at the auto part store was $20 per can and I used two cans. I probably could have got it cheaper somewhere else but oh well... http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i2...rappedroof.jpg |
Re: Here's my truck. John Deer Blitz Black
Now for the floor! I tore out all the old carpet and insulation because the rat that lived in the truck before i got it wasn't potty trained that well....
http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i2...dirtyfloor.jpg This was the hardest thing to clean up off the floor. It's like a small piece of padding glued down to help your wires stay in place. I cleaned the floor up with some orange cleaner and 'goo gone' (sticky stuff remover) http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i2...cleanfloor.jpg These are the products I used to glue down the insulation I got with the poylyvinyl kit from LMC. http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i2...w/products.jpg http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i2...loorsinsul.jpg I also coverd the floor in some padded foil backed duct insulation that I found at home depot. It worked lke a champ and is way cheaper than dynomat, roadkill, etc. That's all I got for the floor for now. I'll post the end results soon. |
Re: Here's my truck. John Deer Blitz Black
I guess I should mention that I also put bucket seats in my truck. They came out of a 2002 ford escape. They were almost a perfect fit. One back leg on each seat was about 2" too long so I had an easy fix. I cut it off real smooth with a hack saw and then just bolted it right back to the same bracket I cut it off of. As you can see in the pictures I just left the bracket bolted to the floor when installing the poylyvinyl/carpet. I dont know if you have ever put bucket seats in you truck but you have to drop both of your side gas tanks and remove your catalytic converter if you have one. I installed the seats before I got the polyvinyl so I just left the modified brackets on the floor and cut around them. The pictures might show you what I mean....
this bracket is bolted to the floor http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i2...acketfloor.jpg The bracket above over laps this bracket and another bolt goes through the whole I drilled in it. http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i2.../brackets1.jpg See this one leg was 2" to short so I hacked it off, moved it up 2" and bolted it back on. http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i2.../brackets2.jpg does this make any since at all? |
Re: Here's my truck. John Deer Blitz Black
It does make sense to see it. Very interesting. So the fronts pretty much bolt in?
|
Re: Here's my truck. John Deer Blitz Black
Yeah, three legs bolt right down and the last leg bolts to the bracket already connected to the floor. I'll take pictures of the final product when I get done.
The duct insulation worked suprisingly well too. It was only like $20 a roll from home depot. |
