I happened on to this blazer on craigslist and just couldnt pass it up. I was delighted to see that it was actually in a little better shape than the owner had described. I have only found a few rust bubble and some light surface rust on the whole thing.
Everything on it works right down to the cruise control. And i think it is complete. It even came with all new GM weatherstripping for the doors windows, top and tailgate brand new in the GM packages.

It also has a new 700R4, 3.73 gears, eaton posi, and strange axles. as well as new a/c lines, radiator hoses, and 4 row radiator.
I havent found anything on the truck that does not work yet. Its going to make a great cruiser.............after i lower it and put some wheels on it.

yeah i go through alot of blazers. i think this one may be a keeper. it will definitely be getting an altitude adjustment and some new shoes quickly. other than that i think i will just buff the paint and cruise it this summer

Dude you totally scored on this one. It looked a lot more red in the first pic you sent. Is it the lights in your garage or is it not red?

Your going to have to make a very equitable offer for him to sell this one. His Dad and brother have already hit him up, and he turned them down. We all know money talks, but I'm pretty sure it's going have to talk BIG to get this one.....;)

is it just me or is there a driprail over the rear window? I have owned a few blazers and have never seen that on one. does anyone know if that was a factory option or a aftermarket addon?

bagged74 05-31-2008 10:19 PM

Re: new toy! 79 2wd blazer

yes there is a driprail over the back window. it looks like the same one that is on a suburban. i cant say for sure whether it was dealer installed or not.

Finally had a little time to clean it up. I bolted up the wheels and tires for my 72 blazer project since they needed washed too:lol::lol: now im lookin like a DONK!!
The wheels for this one should be here next week but i will be gone on vacation..:whine::whine:
Definitely time for an altitude adjustment when i get back.

Re: new toy! 79 2wd blazer

Are you going with the same style & size of wheels? That thing is going to be sick man...

Re: new toy! 79 2wd blazer

I ordered a set of 22" Coys C5 wheels for this one. My wallet is still trying to recover from buying those Billet Specialties wheels for the 72 last year :lol:

Nice blazer!!!!!!! It needs a 4/6 drop bad. What size tires are you going to run on the coys?

I wondered how long it would be before you bolted those on there....:metal:

I finally got time to lower it. I dropped it approximately 4"/4". I was prepared and even had the parts to do the flip on the rear, but decided it would be slightly more than i "really" wanted. I went with a spindle and one coil removed from the stock spring in the front. On the rear i used a 2" shackle and removed the overload leaf and the 1/2" lift block that had been installed somewhere along the way. This yielded about a 4" drop.
The wheels are Coys C5s 22x9" with 5.5" BS on the front with 265/35s the rear are 5" BS with 285/35s.

I guess what im saying is dont be too suprised to see this one on air in the future.....but not right now;);)
besides i need to finish the 72 before i go off the deep end on this one.

Looks good buddy. It's hard to tell, but it looks like you need another .5-1" drop up front.

One good pothole or missing manhole cover and you can kiss those rims goodbye

thats very true. im still a youngin(23) and would like to have all of, well, most of my toys, before marriage or kids come into play. that way, depending on how great my wife is, or how much i like or dislike my kids, i can determine which toy to get rid of! kidding. but yeah, im not married. not planning on it anytime soon, but we all know how that goes.

as far as your blazer, i really like it. alot.

Looks great Tracy...very clean. Like the Coys ALOT.

Are you getting any rubbing of the inner fender? I'm just curious since I'm getting BAD rubbing on the inside of the tire towards the engine on both sides....it's already burnt the paint off the fender.....considering just removing them.

tobiahr 06-24-2008 09:26 AM

Re: new toy! 79 2wd blazer

did you have any clearance issues with the rear shackle? I have been thinking of using one and have heard horror stories about rerouting the gas filler ect.

No rubbing, probably has something to do with the difference in the way the inners are made on the pre-81 front clip. seems like there is more room than the post-81

the shackle will fit, it also will rub the fuel filler hose. I have done it a couple of times. You can loosen the clamp that attaches the filler tube to the body and kinda cheat it over a little(if that makes sense). To me the rubbing on the hose is not that big of an issue, as long as it doesnt hinder the flow which it doesnt.

I'm thinking a missing manhole cover would take out just about any rim out there. Probably take the rear end out too...;)
