pic request: how'd you do your speakers?

well, i had to replace my doors in my truck (damn body cancer) before it goes into paint. On my old doors, below the trim panel, was upholstered with the same stuff thats on the carpet and it had the 6inch holes that the previous owner had made for speakers. the new doors dont have the holes, so before i go back to what i had before. I was wondering on how all you guys did your speakers. on the door or not. I just want to get some ideas and maybe do something new. any pics would be greatly appreaciated!
thanx

I don't have any pictures, but 2 "kicker" boxes behind the seat works good.

Re: pic request: how'd you do your speakers?

We have the half panel and full panel (Silverado) versions in stock now:
Half Panel: http://store.73-87chevytrucks.com/me...y_Code=7387INT
Full Panel:
http://store.73-87chevytrucks.com/me...y_Code=7387INT

You can see the full panel installed here:
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...0&postcount=21

The half panel version is designed around the premise that your parking brake is adjusted correctly so it only needs a fair amount of travel to lock it. We are working on modding a set for those that desire for a full clearance.

Re: pic request: how'd you do your speakers?

I don't have pics, but my 6x9s are in the bottom of the door.

The good:
  • Sound travels well from this location
  • Cheap
  • More foot room than kick panel mounted speakers

The bad:
  • holes have to be cut in the door (this is permanent)
  • must route wires into door and protect the wire
  • speakers get kicked a lot
  • pressure from shutting the doors may damage speakers
  • any leaks around the window often end up in the door. There is a drain hole at the bottom of the door, but the speaker (if not in a "cup") can get wet.

If I was to do it again I would probably do kick panels. Mostly because of running wires into the door and having permanent holes in the door. I guess the holes could be covered up with a carpet piece, I like the painted steel though.

Do you have any pictures with them mounted with speakers? What size speakers to they hold and will they hold components?

Re: pic request: how'd you do your speakers?

Here are pics from a customers truck of the half panels installed. They house up to a 6.5" speaker, they are not designed to hold component speakers. I may add that later.
BTW, the new full panels I don't have speakers mounted yet as I haven't gotten to the stereo portion of my truck yet, and no customers have sent me any pics. We only added them about a month ago though
tvblazer78 modd'ed a set and put componets in his.

I think the lost of places that I HAVEN'T put speakers in is shorter...

Where to start...? Well, you mentioned the doors, so here's both of my stereos that I've had. Old panels are for sale. New panels are being redone again...

thats pretty sick.. ever have it SPL tested?

Re: pic request: how'd you do your speakers?

No. Wouldn't produce that much anyway. That system was geared entirely towards quality and not SPL.

My new system however, should hit around 135-140dB

It was me. Since I just got it finished, they didn't have a Part number assigned but they were availible, so I made one up. I fixed my original link.
If you use the replied link, just go up to interiors and refresh...

Re: pic request: how'd you do your speakers?

I have 8" speakers in the lower door panels and 6" speakers where the el-cheapo plastic "Catch-all" pocket used to be on the door and then 2" tweets just above the 6" speakers. I built new panels for the door bottoms and then mounted the 8" speakers in them, they don't restrict entry into the truck at all and work quite well. The speakers do not extend into the door panels at all in this design. My pics are on the computer at home, so I would have to get at them later tonight.

Re: pic request: how'd you do your speakers?

I actually mutilated my truck back when I was 16.... I'm now paying for the consequences...

I had one 2" (i think) in each stock "Stereo" dash locations, one 6x9 in each door (gaping hole now), mounted 5 1/4" above the seat belts on each side (more gaping holes to fix), 6"ers in the rear corners (where the optional 6x9's go), also had tweeters a few inches above the window cranks and on the dash, and a pair of JL audio 10wO's behind the seat in a giant box that took up most of the space and just about made me sit on the steering wheel... All speakers were amped and would burst your eardrums on full blast...

Even though it was cool then, I now regret it because of all that I have to fix....
