that truck is awsome. did you use the new 5500 for you inspiration when duilding this? i think yours is better cause its a square body. nice build looks like you could start making these for other board members. standard 4 door or optional 6 door or for the realy big family the 10 door hauler. haha

jrsmith_2010 10-17-2008 03:00 PM

Re: NEW Tow Rig build

That is a great looking truck. Its awesome when someone can take something and make it that much cooler. Quick question... could you not have just bolted up the crewcab in place of the standard cab instead of putting them together?

the crew cab had the brackets for the hood on it and the fire wall is different on the standard cab its back about 8 to 10 inchs because the motor sets back not like a regular truck

Well I'm mad now.

i live about 40 miles east of you (beautiful Berville). I've been looking at my 87 GMC 2-ton, 366/5spd for a couple of years, wondering how to make room for all 4 of us. And you beat me to it.
Curious question - did you look at getting a crew cab (correct one) out of a j-yard? I've seen a few road commision trucks with 4 doors.

I though for mine I'd get a 2nd regular cab and mount it backwards, cut both at the top seam and weld it up. Then the kids could look out the back, kinda like the old 3rd seat wagons. Only they could have their own wipers.

If you don't mind me asking, how much did the state get you for plates? And how do you insure it? I'm assumming it's wet brakes and under 26k gross so no CDL...

Neat truck!

Neat truck!

i'd be tempted to throw a truck cap on it, and put a bed back there and register it as an RV.

air brakes, and 30K over each rear wheel, none of those guys are required to have a CDL... just a thought.
