OMG, what a lead I got.
Guy from another forum, where I have the same avatar, sent me pics of these.
His dad got "paid" with this truck from a customer. 28k original. Pics speak for themselves. I *WANT* this. WIW? What should I offer for a close w/o really jerking the guy over? http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x...8/IMG_8363.jpg http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x...8/IMG_8366.jpg http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x...8/IMG_8367.jpg http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x...8/IMG_8368.jpg http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x...8/IMG_8369.jpg http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x...8/IMG_8370.jpg http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x...8/IMG_8371.jpg http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x...8/IMG_8373.jpg http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x...8/IMG_8376.jpg |
Re: OMG, what a lead I got.
That's a sweet truck...I'd start with "what do you need to get out of it?" With a truck that nice...I have doubts about it being cheap.
|
Re: OMG, what a lead I got.
OMG!!!!
original untouched Cheyenne, big block truck of that condition? with 23k miles?! there's been trucks half as nice on Ebay go AT LEAST 10k - 13.5K. "ain't gonna be cheap"! I'm drooling on the keyboard now........ |
Re: OMG, what a lead I got.
That thing kicks a$$. It won't be super cheap, but how many are out there like that? I'd expect to drop close to $10k at least.
I agree with see ten; ask first, offer later. |
Re: OMG, what a lead I got.
Man how come things like this dont ever happen to me....:waah:
Easy 10k.... |

Re: OMG, what a lead I got.
Lots of go kart wheels in the back...gotta be good for something.
It's a nice truck...perfect canidate for a swb conversion! Sorry...had to say it! And yes! Find out what his dad was owed. |
Re: OMG, what a lead I got.
What was owed, I would be willing to bet you could get it for $5000.
Bastard..... But that truck can be sold easily in the teens. You didn't tell them you were going to list the truck here did you? If that's the case I wouldn't lay down more then $2000,, Did you see how dirty that seat is? You'd be the first to start a resto. with a buffer and a rag.... |

That is the best thing you can do in a situation like that. |
Re: OMG, what a lead I got.
That thing needs to be placed in a baggie and left in the dark for another 40yrs.
|
Re: OMG, what a lead I got.
i dont get it, it has a 400 badge but the SPID says 396:crazy:
but that truck is sweeeeet |
Re: OMG, what a lead I got.
Yea, thanks all.
By the way, I am by no means trying to screw this guy if I sounded that way. Its a fantastic deal, I just dont want to overpay if I dont need to. Thanks for the tip on what was owed. Wouldnt be surprised if the guy finds the site/thread as well :D |
Re: OMG, what a lead I got.

He may only be looking to get back the money he was owed for the job and not care about the truck/want it at all. You may luck out and get it for a couple/few G's. To "us" we "see gold." To everyone else in the world: "It's just another old truck." |
Re: OMG, what a lead I got.
All I can say is wow and does it run?
|
Re: OMG, what a lead I got.
that thing is BEAUTIFUL!
if i had the oportunity to buy a truck like that and had the ability to buy it at that time i wouldnt be wondering how much i can buy it for i would be asking them when they want me to come pick it up and pay for it |
Re: OMG, what a lead I got.
never seen a kart racer keep that nice of a truck, lol
|
Re: OMG, what a lead I got.
being a person who has a low mile truck...had 32k when i got it, i can tell you there are lots of issues with a truck that has sat for a long time. be sure to figure that into it... but im with the others who say ask him what he wants for it, first, then work from there.
verrrrrry nice truck! |

You don't want that............it's DUSTY!! LOL

Re: OMG, what a lead I got.
I don't know your financial situation, don't care and it isn't any of my business but I'd suggest making sure I had the cash readily available when I went to look at it. Nothing frys a sellers butt more than having a prospective buyer try to cut a deal and then say "ok I have to go see if I can raise the money I'll be back in a couple of days".
I can't even guess what he wants for it but from here that truck looks like it would be in the running for a trophy in the Unmolested original class at any major Chevy truck show. Quite an impressive find from this view. |
Re: OMG, what a lead I got.
That truck is as perfect as you could find. I have looked this truck over an under. I sold him the full hubcaps for it about 4 years ago. FYI he is really hard to deal with as he is/was a good friend of mine but our friendship went south due to a bad deal between he an I.
As the others said the only thing I would worry about is the fact that the truck has sat for a long time but I do know that the original owner had three cars like this one the he all had in a garage all there life. The guy (my friend) that has it now is a mechanic and his dad was befor him an they both worked on this guys (original owner of truck) cars all there life. Its a family shop thats in my town. Really good people just really REALLY hard to deal with. I do know the truck still runs as they move it around the shop from time to time and it was driven to the shop by the owners son. |
Re: OMG, what a lead I got.
Forgot to mention that it has a wood bed that still has the original overspray on it. I also believe it was sold in my town and was just a one owner truck until now. If I remember right it was sold at a dealer called ROAK CHEVROLET and still has the dealer sticker on it.

Re: OMG, what a lead I got.
:jdp:WOW That truck looks clean I hope you or any other member from this site buys it I would like to see more pictures.....

WOW, Nice find!! They are only original like that once!!! Hope you get it and keep it well preserved!!! Good luck!!

Re: OMG, what a lead I got.
I hate to be the one, but as an observation, I guess this is a '71. But didn't the "71 Cheyennes have woodgrain instrument bezels and glove boxes. Also, the glove box had a Cheyenne emblem on it, right. I don't recall ever seeing one that had woodgrain door panels, with a black painted instrument bezel.
And I could not tell if the firewall had the factory chalk writing on it. It looked like it did not. These things make me suspect if this truck is truly original, or a resto. Then there's the 396 vs 400 SPID. Any body see anything else suspicious? Also, the SPID says CST. The emblem says Cheyenne???? All that being said, it's still a very nice truck. But as always, know what you're buying (to best of your ability). If I am off with these comments, someone let me know. I would like to be wrong on this one......... |

Re: OMG, what a lead I got.
Everything looks original (except the hub caps) to me. The Cheyenne package listed as Custom Sport Truck would have woodgrain door panels, no glove-box woodgrain, and no dash woodgrain. The engine being listed as 396 versus later listed as 400 is correct. I have not seen the shock option shown before (what is it?).
NICE FIND!!!!! |
Re: OMG, what a lead I got.
Looks like my questions have been addressed. I stand corrected. Thanks for the info. As always, this board impressed me again. You guys are good.
|
Re: OMG, what a lead I got.
he KNOWS that it's worth or he wouldn't have accepted it as payment ... sorry to be the pessimist, but I wouldn't get my snaggin' it on the cheap hopes up
|
Re: OMG, what a lead I got.
He doesn't neccessarily know what it's worth,he just knows it was worth more than he was owed. It's a very nice survivor and would be a nice stock unmolested show-er.I would ask what he thinks he has to have out of it and offer less to see if he bites. He may like everyone else be feeling the recession and want cassh instead of a truck.
|
Re: OMG, what a lead I got.
Just hope he's not a Barrett-Jackson fan.
|
Re: OMG, what a lead I got.
Trust me he knows what its worth. He has several classic cars that are fully restored to the T and I me extremly correct restorations. But this truck is 100% stock (unrestored). As for the hubcaps that are on it I also thought they were wrong thats why he bought a set of full wheel caps from me.

Ask him what he wants for it. Then you can work your magic, but it doesnt smell like a steal to me. I hope you get it-
|
Re: OMG, what a lead I got.
What a survivor... keep us posted.
Be honest with him, ask him what he wants out of it, and then go from there. |

If I remember correct this truck and a car were given to him by the original owners son as he didnt have a need for them. Why? I dont know. I know he took them as trade for some work but not all the work. It was more of a... You always worked on these for my dad and he left them to me so I dont need them so since your a friend of the family I will just pass them on to you.... Thats about all I got from the new owner when I hung out with him. |
Re: OMG, what a lead I got.
regardless - he isnt replying to my PM's there now, oh well.
