Interior help

today I finally got my door panels from the upholster, also the seats and kick panels are getting covered, but I'm having a hard time figuring out what I should paint, either blue or white that match the door panels or leave it alone
the upholster guy is a furniture upholster, and he didn't want to cover this
the headliner trim
dash
dash bezel
steering wheel
seat belt re tractor cover
sun visor's
diamond plate keep it or change it
and also where should I put the radio, headlight switch, heater switch it the switch that say's summit on it, and wiper switch it look's like the heater switch

Re: Interior help

man, tough choices... i'd replace the diamond plating for sure. thinking stock bezel smoothed and painted white and paint the gauge trim rings blue. do away w/ the summit control, (maybe paint blue) and try to get a double din radio, nav, dvd to fit in the old holes. just a thought...

Re: Interior help

get rid of the diamond plate. Get some clean stock parts on the dash and it will look great. I like the door panels.

Re: Interior help

weeeell
since you asked I think the diamond plate needs to go too
the polished high class look of the door panels doesn't
fit with the high tech industrial look of the plate in my opinion
too much of a mix of styles

but your truck is unique
built to be what you want
take some time and look at options it will come to you

great truck -doing it your way
good luck

Re: Interior help

I would get rid of the diamond plate and go with stock interior parts as well.

I really like the door panels:metal:

Re: Interior help

thanks guys for the input and compliments , I'm going to fiber glass the dash bezel and paint it white, and I found some plastic paint that match's the white material for the headliner trim, and the factory kick panel's are getting covered in white and I'm thinking about hiding the heater switch, what about wood in place of the diamond plate since my dad does wood work well, and recessing the gauges

impalamark 03-17-2009 10:58 PM

Re: Interior help

yea the heater switch does kinda stick out

I like the idea of a wood dash with the guages recessed -sweet ... and keying it to the color
of the wood on the seat/ console would look sharp

Re: Interior help

when I was mounting the switch I couldn't make my mind up where I wanted it so that's where it went, so it's going at the bottom of dash by the wiper switch it's the black knob, http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r...0/IMAG1446.jpg

flamingbig10 03-18-2009 11:38 PM

Re: Interior help

I went ahead and painted the headliner trim white and moved the heater switch
before
The trim started off blue then I went with a gloss white then I changed it to a shell white

Those look great and i agree to getting red of the diamond plate for stock pieces

chappys4life 03-19-2009 11:21 AM

Re: Interior help

Yeah get rid of the diamond plate. The billet one from lmc would look sweet and do the brushed aluminum pieces for the other diamond plate areas.

Re: Interior help

thanks OARNGESI, what stock pieces do ya"ll mean

thanks, the jbl's have a little thump maybe a little more when I build a bigger box , along with Sony 4-Channel 600-Watt Xplod Amplifier, XMZR604R, and a Sony 5x7 in the dash zip tied, and one component box speaker that's older than my truck

flamingbig10 03-21-2009 04:44 AM

Re: Interior help

I thought about it some more, fiber glass the bezel, move the stereo to the factory location and wood trim for the dash

factory2wdblazer's 03-21-2009 11:26 PM

Re: Interior help

if you fiber glass the bezel i think that will look cool. i tought about it aswell but i'am going to go ahead and buy the billit aluminum bezel cover and i will be fiber glassing my dash.:metal:

Re: Interior help

I'd be weary of the wood trim...

Nothing against your dad wood working ability, but the wood trim really doesn't fit the interior at all. Maybe if you stained it jet black and the proper grain pattern showed through, but I think it would be very hard to pull off and make it match the rest of the truck.

For the speaker box, I'd ditch the shelf speakers (obviously) and just fit the subs and amps inside the box and use the kick panels as your mids and plant the tweeters in the dash corners. Maybe you could make a pod for them coming from the a-pillar.

If you're in the mood for new equipment, I may have a box you can use...

EDIT: I just thought of this, what if you could figure out a way to make the wood grain into flames...? how bad ass would that be...?

flamingbig10 03-22-2009 01:18 PM

Re: Interior help

the wood trim I'm having second thoughts on, for the box, I was going make one that went to cab corner to cab corner and I'll have make it flat in the middle for the center console/seat

there 10s

Re: Interior help

ditch the trim in the dash completely. It has lines leading to a door panel with nothing on it. Paint the dash to match the white on the door panels, or just have the dash covered in the leather thats on the doors. Smooth a factory dash bezel, and paint it blue. Eliminate all unnecessary things, and get the carpet dyed to match the blue in the seats. And get a new steering wheel wrapped in the same material as the seats/door panels.

***edit***
get rid of ***ALL*** diamond plate!

just my $.02

flamingbig10 04-10-2009 01:46 AM

Re: Interior help

The diamond plate is gone, I replace diamond with temporary sheet metal until I fiber glass the bezel, I was thinking about painting the dash white or blue to match, because the blue on the dash isn't even close, the carpet almost new so, Evantually I'm going to get carpet that matches

Re: Interior help

Could do blue dash and white gauges?Or fully custom make the dash out of fiberglass your wallet is the only limit on what you can do.Are those the stock inside door handles?

Re: Interior help

Hey big10 with the box you could go with a shallow sub probox thats what i have in my 83' and it works great, but then again i cant set my seat all the way back but its only up one notch so all i really lost was about an inch but its all up to you and what you like and also for the interior parts have you looked at the billlet bezels and everything from LMC im thinking maybe they might go with the flow of the truck but then again i dont know its up to you.

I was thinking about fully custom dash but I still want a factory look, the door handles are stock 81-87, and the window cranks are summit brand

do you have any pics of the sub box, I was thinking about the billet pieces from lmc but then I would have to change the gauges to look wright with billet bezel

Heres a pick of what the box in my truck looks very similar to i cant get a picture of mine because the seat in my truck is a rear seat out of a suburban so it doesnt lift up but the box is for shallow 10 inch subs. Ok then man yea it looks good like that.

where did you get that box from?

Re: Interior help

I finally made up my mind on the interior, get someone to cover the dash in blue Naugahyde or do it myself, paint the sheet metal pieces white to match the door panels and also the bezel, cover my steering wheel in blue, and for the sub box it's going be from seat belt to seat belts, it's going to be kinda flat for the center console/seat covered in blue and white
