My crew cab is finally a short bed

after a few months of searching for a guy here in Co to do the frame on my crew cab I found board member skchevota who was a great guy to deal with and also gave me an awesome deal. I dropped it off a couple weeks ago and added a few things for him to do and he got it all done in the time he said he would !!!!! He shortened, boxed and fishplated the frame, c-notched/boxed, removed the rear overloads and 1 leaf, and removed a bunch of brackets frome the PO's 5th wheel hitch.

I'll pick it up sometime this week but here is a shot of it finished and loaded on his trailer. I hope to get it to the body shop by the end of April.

That looks sweet Adam. I know the short bed CC's have been the rage lately. I think your will stand out from the crowd with the rounded line clip.

Keep the trim....:metal:

Thanks guys. Yes I will be keeping the trim and I will probably repaint it the stock color too.

Re: My crew cab is finally a short bed

Are you keeping the 3/4 ton suspension? I think that would be cool and there are a ton of wheel options for eight lug wheels. And I think it would be very cool with the factory color and trim.

Well technically it's 1 ton but I did remove a rear leaf and I will probably have to lower the front one more inch and will use 3/4 ton springs since I don't think anyone makes a 1 ton lowering spring but it will stay 8 lug. Wheel selection is great if you like rivets and want your wheels to stick out past the fender, I think I found a wheel with a simple and clean look though. I'm not sure if I'll go 20 or 22" but I think I'm leaning toward 20" so I can have a little more sidewall since it will be a semi-daily driver

Looks good. Check out DJM I think they make lowering springs for the 3/4 and 1 ton trucks.

Looking sweet man! I am glad you are keeping the trim...and even the color! Your CCSB has the porential to be the best one I have seen...mainly because you have an old one. I like them all, but enuff of the 81+ models, lets see an old one done up right and be a little different. :)

In case you havent noticed , I am partial to the 73*80 trucks because of the trim so this is one of my favorite CCSB builds . Truck is coming along nicely .

I believe you take 14" out of the frame in front of the axle so it would be whatever a CC WB is minus 14"?
Too lazy to look up what a CC WB is so you might try 73-87.com as he has a lot of info there.

Really? I have always hated the dog dish caps although it would save me a ton of money. Too bad the wheels are 16.5 or I could find a set of used tires cheap to see how it looks

Looks good, but I think the wheels need to stand out a bit.

Good loking truck, my Daily D. is a 4 door shortbed, a little newer though....'01 looks great, and I love the old dog dishes, whats cool about it is the stock appearance makes you wonder why it looks custom, even alot of rodders will miss the bed size at first glance. But know something is different

Looking great Adam. I wish I still had mine. I agree about the wheels, they should stand out.

The painter still has it, I got a call from him Thurs and said it would be painted Saturday. Saturday night he called to tell me he got stabbed trying to break up a fight!! 8 stitches and he now has the booth scheduled for Thursday, hopefully this weekend it should be all done.

I found some rims to use until the wheels I want are available, they arent really what I like but they will get me on the road Tires have been ordered. and should be here by the end of the week. I am soooo ready to drive this truck ha ha

Yeah, I like your other wheel choice much better, too. I don't like all the rivets or screws around the lip.

Seems like everything has rivets, screws on 8 lug wheels, I may decide to change the truck to 5 lug

F*** 5 lugs, stick with 8 and find some wheels you like. there are Sooo many manufacturers these days it is rediculous. in time you'll find something you love

Re: My crew cab is finally a short bed

I'm currently changing my 8-lug over to 5-lug. I bought this truck that already had a short bed conversion on a 3/4 ton frame. I was going to just change the suspension but my dad got the idea to use a 1/2 ton Surburban and the back half of a 1/2 ton short bed truck frame. Its working perfectly and all the holes will line up perfectly! Just like it was factory. More pics at the link.

See the nasty work the previous owner did?!

Re: My crew cab is finally a short bed

Hahaha... the guy that built it is a well known local racer so I figured it would be some what decent. He sold it to a guy that knew nothing about the truck. Since the pinion angle on the rear end was so bad, he broke a driveline after 3 months of owning it. It sat for 3 years until I came along. I paid $500 for the whole truck... so I'm okay with it. That **** frame will go to the scrap yard and I will have a nice factory like 1/2 ton frame to put under it. You like those leaf spring hangers too?

There must be a million ways to get delayed...

I got set back one time because my painter broke his nose. He was at his cabin and went to get something out of the cupboard; a can of "Pork & Beans" fell out and BAM! hit him on the bridge of his nose. There was blood everywhere; since it broke his nose he couldn't wear his respirator mask for spraying :waah:

Back to your truck - it looks great. After being in a regular cab again for a few months (after being out of one for 18 years) these CCSB trucks look like a better fit for me and I'm digging 'em -
