Clean firewall

Hey peeps I come to you with some more ?'s. I wanna take out all my heater and ac stuff out, But what all do I need to do to give the firewall a clean look. I dont like all that clutter on the passenger side motor compartment. I dont care for the heater and ac. If I get cold I'll put an extra jacket on, if I get hot then I'll roll the windows down. Too me it aint a big deal. Some pics would also be great some before and afters. Thanks in advance everybody.

I'm getting to the same point on my 84 GMC. I want to smooth out the firewall. I have removed everything but the brakes and steering column. I will be pulling my engine out soon to install my PB Dropmember and at the same time I will weld up all the holes in my firewall. First picture is mine.

Another idea is to put a cover over the firewall like the aluminum piece in this second picture.

I made a panel that fits over the heater holes and welded on some studs then I can bolt it inside the cab.Looks flush but if I decide to rut heater back in ,no trouble

Re: Clean firewall

Well thanks to everybody, I got started and jerked everything out and started to make the templates to cover the holes. But now I'm thinking of just putting an aluminum cover over it. hmmmmmm it got to late so i'll post some pics manana, again thanks to everybody you all have been very helpful. keep the pics coming in though. hehehehehehe. I'd also like to get rid of the huge master cylinder, I know I need it but theirs got to be something better or smaller and shiny out their. Anyone got any suggestions?

On my 77 we made filler panels and routed it through the fender.

I have my wires ruining through the floor board and the head light wires running through the driver side fender http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r...0/IMAG1389.jpg

I shaved my firewall, and the engine compartment wires run underneath the firewall (up in the lip). I made a fuse box cover to hide my wires there, and the headlight harness section runs inside my drivers fender out to the drivers headlight, the remaining passenger headlight section runs underneath the radiator along the bottom of the core support. I also mounted all my ignition stuff (MSD box and coil) on the inside of the firewall, and have a junction right behind the distributor to connect it to the coil (so it appears my distributor plugs into the firewall).

Thanks...and no patent pending. :)

My battery is also located underneath the bed, in a drop down battery box.

Re: Clean firewall

for the master cylinder, there are some kits that put the master cylinder up under the cab floor...then you won't see the master at all, just the steering shaft...

Chuck.

I made my own- it mounts it under the dash.

Re: Clean firewall

hey flamingbig on picture 2 , you didnt put the sheet of metal all the way accross. How did that turn out? Did you fade it into the original sheet metal with bondo? Im thinking of just putn a sheet over the exsisting firewall. I got some 16 gauge today would that be to thick? If so what did u use? Did u just rivet it in or weld it in also? thanks

flamingbig10 07-16-2009 10:24 PM

Re: Clean firewall

the sheet metal firewall cover turned out ok but its just temporary until I decide what I really want its stop at the ridges under the wiper motor because I didn't want modify the wiper motor rod, or cut into factory sheet metal and make patch since I had just rewired the truck and added sound detonator so I didn't want to cause a fire, and sheet metal 20 gauge I think and I used black sheet metal screws to hold it on

That was going to be my next question. Does re-locating the master cylinder/booster affect brake performance in anyway?

Rollinsqrbdy 07-23-2009 06:36 PM

Re: Clean firewall

Well I got alot of the panel cover done i just got to get it welded in but, that can be a problem as I dont got a meg or even know anyone that has one. Other than the welding shop but, i'd like to do it myself.

C-10 simplex 08-02-2009 07:24 PM

Re: Clean firewall

Not to be a pest, but could we discuss the kits that relocate the master cylinder and brake booster to somewhere else(presumably underneath the floor)?

Will this affect brake performance in anyway?
