picking up a new (to me) '06 Sierra SLT
4 Attachment(s)
Looks like i'm getting this truck... non-smoker one owner and loaded w/ new brakes and BFG AT's... $19,000
steering is a little tighter than I expected though, might be the tires but was wondering what your thoughts are.. also wondering about a leveling kit to bring the nose level with the rear. I think it will require the torsion keys but what about shocks and allignment? I would have rather had a full short bed but like the 5.3L better for MPG vs/ the 1500HD 6.0L. 2006 GMC 1500 Sierra SLT 51,539 mi, 5.3L V8, Automatic, Leather, Power Windows, Power Locks, Keyless Entry, Cruise, Bose Audio System, Rhino Bed Liner, Z71 Package, Heated Seats, Six disc CD Changer, Towing Package, 4x4, 1 owner |
Re: picking up a new (to me) '06 Sierra SLT
well, PO's really tick me off sometimes...
The guy doesn't have the title and wants to wait for it to arrive next week until we finish the deal... |
Re: picking up a new (to me) '06 Sierra SLT
Buying privately sure is a pain sometimes. I hope you get things worked out soon! That truck sure is sharp.
|
Re: picking up a new (to me) '06 Sierra SLT
That's a good looking truck Mike. I have an '05 Chevy identical to it and I love mine. As far as the leveing kit goes I've never used one, I've always had the torsion keys tightened up a few rounds to level the front end. It does affect your ride quality a little but not much and yes you will have to get an alignment done.
Can the PO write you a bill of sale until the title comes in? That's what I've done before here in Georgia. |
Re: picking up a new (to me) '06 Sierra SLT
You can't get a registration without title paperwork in PA. If it was a dealer then a temp tag is an option, not on a private sale.
I was getting a little heated with him when he said that he wants to wait until the title arrives (next week). Maybe i'll still go to the auction Thursday night and look at trucks again... Might find a better deal that I can drive home with on friday... bet that would make him wish he had "title in hand"... I'm not handing over a $19000 check without car keys so he has to pay his loan off himself, |
Re: picking up a new (to me) '06 Sierra SLT
Yeah I don't blame you on that. If he doesn't have the title, then he gets no cash. Hope it all works out.
Yeah cranking the torsion bars up a bit will help raise it up. You prob won't notice much change in ride quality though. Like sdailey said it's minimal. |
Re: picking up a new (to me) '06 Sierra SLT
I hope it works out but if not then something else will come. I sure wouldn't level it though, especially if you ever want to use it was a truck. Trucks are raked for a reason....hauling in a leveled truck looks really dumb when the back end is way lower and the trailer is empty.

Re: picking up a new (to me) '06 Sierra SLT
i'm gonna hit the auction on thursday just to see what's available..
|
Re: picking up a new (to me) '06 Sierra SLT
I would too....the title deal sounds flaky to me.
|
Re: picking up a new (to me) '06 Sierra SLT
the guy said that he sent in his payoff so that he can get the title, we'll see... would have been smart to have it in hand but it's his sale...
|
Re: picking up a new (to me) '06 Sierra SLT
Here in Oklahoma we have the title the whole time, just has a lien on it for the bank. You can pay off the loan, and then just get a lien release, or just check with the DMV and they can tell you if the lien has been removed. It's weird how there are so many different rules and such from state to state.
|
Re: picking up a new (to me) '06 Sierra SLT
Here in PA the state holds all titles with a lien, when the bank reports that you pay it off they send it to you in the mail...
In Indiana the bank holds the title till payoff... Florida is pure elctronic I think... New York can (could) sign over the registration and that acted as the title... |
Re: picking up a new (to me) '06 Sierra SLT
I really like having something in my hand saying it's mine. Well as long as the bank lets me have it anyway.

might be a change on plans, going to look at this on Tuesday...
it's a 2003 only asking $15K w/ 62K miles... $4k less ( I know it's not worth as much as the GMC) but the extra $110/month would go a long way towards gas vs. heated leather seats in the GMC. http://www.huberauto.com/sales/?id=C29742T |
Re: picking up a new (to me) '06 Sierra SLT
wow what a sin

Nothing wrong with those F150's...two of my friends have one and they are reliable and nice.
|
Re: picking up a new (to me) '06 Sierra SLT
Looks like a really nice truck man.
|
Re: picking up a new (to me) '06 Sierra SLT
we'll see...
If I can get out the door with it for $15K then the GMC might be passed on. The $4-5K saved can put a nice paintjob on my 68. |
Re: picking up a new (to me) '06 Sierra SLT
final post... chastise me how you want... I found this on an obscure website today, 04 with only 37K miles... title in hand for $17K...
let me hear about it,this thing is pretty sweet though...picking it up tomorrow http://i211.photobucket.com/albums/b...4/IMG_4528.jpg http://i211.photobucket.com/albums/b...4/IMG_4529.jpg http://i211.photobucket.com/albums/b...4/IMG_4530.jpg http://i211.photobucket.com/albums/b...4/IMG_4531.jpg http://i211.photobucket.com/albums/b...4/IMG_4532.jpg |
Re: picking up a new (to me) '06 Sierra SLT
love those trucks. the seats kill my back though. took one to NY once and thought I was gonna die by NJ.
Hope it does you well,. It looks like it was a good deal |

I only drive 18 minutes to work... thanks for kind words though, I just couldn't find a GM that suited me for the price. GM got real lazy with body styles till the new 07... I have an 05 Tahoe that looks like almost identical to my moms 95 silverado.. that's lazy |
Re: picking up a new (to me) '06 Sierra SLT
hey Mike the truck looks terrific, definetly way low on the miles, I re-ran the carfax again and it all looks perfect....Congrats on your purchase.....
|
Re: picking up a new (to me) '06 Sierra SLT
NOt too shabby....let us know how you like it when you drive it!
|
Re: picking up a new (to me) '06 Sierra SLT
For the price ya can't hardly beat it. Liz almost wound up with the previous body style version of that truck before we scored the deal on her yukon....
|
Re: picking up a new (to me) '06 Sierra SLT
I was looking at 03's as well but love the shifter and body in this one... Red is my favorite too...
thanks... am I ostracized yet? :) |
Re: picking up a new (to me) '06 Sierra SLT
Nawww...two of my best buds have those. You might hate the tall bed sides after awhile, but the rest of the truck is a winner. I like the color!
|
Re: picking up a new (to me) '06 Sierra SLT
Looks good man. I think you will like that one better than the other F150 you were looking at. My dad just bought a new F150 like that one, and he absolutely loves it. Congrats on the purchase, and do you get the rolling pin included in the deal?
|
Re: picking up a new (to me) '06 Sierra SLT
Nice buy Mike!
I actually used to own an '01 SuperCrew and that truck was really nice. Road well, decent mileage,... glad to see you were able to locate one. |
Re: picking up a new (to me) '06 Sierra SLT
Congratulations Mike. That's a nice truck. My cousin bought one new and he loves his.
|
Re: picking up a new (to me) '06 Sierra SLT
this thing is a freaking beast!!!!
drove it back from Delaware this morning... I like the aftermarket exhaust but it does resonate in the cab a little... my 3 year old heard me start it up and stated "this truck sounds pretty" that's my boy :) |
Re: picking up a new (to me) '06 Sierra SLT
That's a big ass rolling pin!!! Didja get that in the deal? I looked back to see what motor it had in it....so it's a beast eh? Details comin?

let me hear about it,this thing is pretty sweet though...picking it up tomorrow http://i211.photobucket.com/albums/b...4/IMG_4531.jpg Well who can turn down a truck that comes with a rolling pin. So does that mean the wife has layed claim to this one? I agree with Kelly about the tall bed sides. I don't care for that but I do like the interiors of the fords pretty well. When I bought my last used truck I asked my dealer why he doesn't stock GM crewcabs and he said price! He can't seem to buy the GMs reasonable so he buys fords like these. When the wife gets ready to trade the Burb in we will give the fords a look too. |
Re: picking up a new (to me) '06 Sierra SLT
For 17k I would have bought it too. As long as you like it who cares what brand it is. I like the new Fords more than the new GM's.
And the best thing.....It's Husker red! |

All kidding aside with Ford vs Chevy, this is the meanest truck i've ever been in (including my hemi Ram). It's a 5.4L and really gets on it even though it doesn't feel like your doing 70, you are! It feels like a cocpit or a big piece of construction equipment... and for $4K below KBB with the topper it was a steal... I'm gonna pull the topper off for the rest of summer/fall then put it on before snow hits... What's your thoughts on Amsoil? and I get a little shutter when I turn a sharp corner, is the limited slip low on oil/additive? It's not bad but I noticed it... I grew up a GM guy but really like a good truck, this is a good truck... |
Re: picking up a new (to me) '06 Sierra SLT
That 5.4 is a good motor....that's what my buddy has in his and he loves it!!
Glad you got a good truck. I have owned several Fords in my past....that new 'little' supercharged GT 500 is a looker. If I had the cash it'd be stitting in my driveway right now. |
Re: picking up a new (to me) '06 Sierra SLT
I would have to agree with you. My dad is a diehard Ford guy. He bought a Chevy pickup new in 64, didn't like it, and has owned Fords ever since. My uncle on the other hand is the opposite. He bought a F150 new in 73, didn't like it, and has owned GM ever since. I'm kind of in the middle. I like both, and it really just comes down to who has the better model at the time. In my opinion they have flip flopped back and forth over the years. Some models I like GM better, but lately I have been drawn more to the F150's.
In my garage I have a 03 Mustang, and a 03 GMC so I am splitting the difference. As far as the tall bedsides the new Chevy/GMC trucks have tall bedsides too. That and the trucks in general are taller. My dad traded in his 96 F150, and bought a new 09 F150. He said the 96 had more ground clearance, but the 09 F150 2wd is taller than my 03 1500HD 4wd. |

Re: picking up a new (to me) '06 Sierra SLT
found an awesome deal on amazon last night...
new lund snap tonneau cover for $41 shipped! this morning they changed it to $130 (which is still half price)... I'm not a fan of the snaps but I couldn't pass the deal up.. and I have the shell for the winter so the tonneau will be removed anyway... I did find out though that 04 Fords (all of them) have issues with the limited slip shudder... Fords fix is new clutch pack, heavier oil and additive... I'm gonna do the last two and let it be for now, it's not that bad and only does it truning left... |
