"Project 64"

Well guys you know I've been on the site for a little while now, and have got to know a lot of yall. I have been lazy and haven't done a build thread. So I guess I'm going to start one now.
I bought the truck back in 04 from a good friend of mine. He had it for a while, he bagged it, swaped the 283 to a 350/T350. Bagged the rear on trailing arms. Swaped the bench for buckets out of a burb. Well i guess it's time for pics. |

some more pics, I didn't do the notch, my buddy did when he owned the truck. It's some C channel that wasn't welded good at all. After I took the bed off I saw that the frame was stress cracked at the notch and was only held on but like a inch of metal per side.

Re: My 64 build.
I was wondering if you ever would start a build thread. ;) Nice to see it.

Well on to the back for some work. I decided to do a back half, I'm going to change it up a little from the way it sits now, but you get the idea. This is the way the truck has been sitting for a couple months now. It's at my dads shop in East Texas and I'm 4 hours away.
There is a lot that I dont have pics for and I wish that I did. The front of the frame was sandblasted and put in PD90 till I could do the back half of the truck. I haven't done any body work and I wont until I get the frame done how I want it and 4 linked in the back. I still need to run brake lines and mount my fuel cell. |
Re: My 64 build.
I know Alan I've just havne't got around to it. And that I haven't worked on the truck in months I didn't feel like posting since I wont be working on it much. I need to get the cab up here so I can start patching some of the metal.

Re: My 64 build.
Nice job ruffrida. Chassis is looking much better.:ito:
|
Re: "Project 64"
Really nice work and components.:metal:
|
Re: "Project 64"
I just want to let yall know this will be a real long build thread. I dont have really any money to work on it and it's at my dads shop.
|
Re: "Project 64"
I am getting some brackets cut out for my 4 link though. We have a CNC at work so I'm getting them done for free.
|
Re: "Project 64"
Free is just the right price. If I had a cnc machine here at work, I'd go crazy with it.
|
Re: "Project 64"
Well actully Joe your paying for my brackets. haha
|
Re: "Project 64"
Crossmember kit looks nice. I ordered the same kit plus the rear kit but it hasn't arrived yet.
Looking good! Keep us posted. |
Re: "Project 64"
You will really like the front kit, Which one did you get the 47 or 51? I wish I had the money for the rear kit but I just dont!
|
Re: "Project 64"
I got the 51. I didn't get the powdercoating though. I might call them tomorrow and see if it's too late to add it.
I will end up having to get different motor mounts made because of my 305 V6. |
Re: "Project 64"
How long ago did you order the kit, I took Jason over 2 months to do mine, but I told him not to rush since I was in Iraq. You should be able to have to get it done.
|
Re: "Project 64"
I cut out my first bracket on the CNC for my 4 link. I got a bunch more to do then I just got to get the rest of the stuff to do it. I'll put pics up later
|
Re: "Project 64"
Well I'm thinking of going to Wyotech for street rod and fab. Anyone have any insite on it?
|
Re: "Project 64"
Your build is starting out great. Looks like you blew your wod already. You better grow that money tree.
|
Re: "Project 64"
Yeah I blew my wod already to get this thing started. Hopefully I can get it linked and the frame done before the new year, Then I'll start on the body next year. Well that's if I dont go to Wyotech.
|
Re: "Project 64"
awesome :metal:

Re: "Project 64"
Nice to see ya started this!:metal: This will be cool to see going together; that pic of the front suspension by itself looks like something from a Terminator movie:lol:.
|
Re: "Project 64"
I've got most of wht I bought done already. I took 2 months of vacation this year so that's what I did. I spent little over 7000 on the truck and I cant drive it. Or even sit in the cab on the frame for that matter. Money has been tight so I haven't worked on it much. I got to build the frame for my fuel cell to sit in, then I think I'm going to get it fired up. Should be nice and loud.

Re: "Project 64"
Heres a ? for yall. If you can see the gold wires I have. I think I'm going to keep them, but blast the wires and paint them black. I'm wanting to do the truck in a flat orange, like UT burnt orange. I think it will look sweet with the flat black and burnt orange. What do yall think about the rims and what's the best way to strip the gold and chrome off it.

http://www.buchananspokes.net/ My son builds Cafe Racers from old CB Hondas. Here's one of the wheels he's done. Just to give you some ideas. These have polished stainless spokes. I can't find a picture of the black spokes with red rims. http://www.lossaengineering.com/imag...B550_05_02.jpg http://www.lossaengineering.com/imag...a/Mosca_01.jpg http://photos-b.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos..._5208131_n.jpg http://photos-h.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos..._6702682_n.jpg |
Re: "Project 64"
i like the wires also
|
Re: "Project 64"
I think I'm going to try and blast them first. They are pretty rusted so I think it will come off. I'm only going to do a black rim right now. They wont be the ones I run for good. Just to get by so I already have the DP90. Cant beat free.

I was planning on doing the wheels on my van with a flat orange/copper rim and flat black center. I've made a few cars in a video game llike that and it looks awesome. |
Re: "Project 64"
sweet I may have to keep that in mind, I'll probably spray a rim to see how it looks.
|
Re: "Project 64"
Sweet your own build thread.:metal: Love the pictures of the custom c notch.
|
Re: "Project 64"
yeah I wish I could do some more work to it. I have all my axle brackets cut out on our CNC. They fit good. Thanks to Jason at SD for hooking me up with the file. I'll get some pics up when I can.
|
Re: "Project 64"
well guys a very very very slow thread just got even slower, I'm going through the big D and I dont mean dallas. I may have to unload my truck to someone to finsh it. But will have to see.
|
Re: "Project 64"
Suck. Can't you just hide it.;) Or just kiss up. There all about the same.;)
|
Re: "Project 64"
well you see the trucks not in my name yet so she cant touch it at all. Were still going to be on good terms
|
Re: "Project 64"
Hope you keep it. I would like to see it done. Even if it does take forever.
|
Re: "Project 64"
at this rate we might both be dead by the time I finish it. I'll be a ghost still working on it.
|
Re: "Project 64"
You're further than I am.;) How long have you been working on it? You do have a lot done. I wish I was that far. Maybe another 5 grand. And a couple old ladies:lol: I was'nt to impressed with your first c notch but since then your work has really improved.
