Big Block Headers

I am looking to buy some big block headers for my 68 chevy project......Just alittle info on truck.....has 2 1/2 drop spindles and 2" drop springs up front and 4" springs with 1 1/2" drop blocks in rear.... I don't want to spend lots of major money for a set but want something that would fit good and not drag.... What works and fits and brand name....Show pics if you got them.....

Thanks, Eric

Re: Big Block Headers

I've posted this request before and a couple of guys are running the Patriot Clippster (H8013 I think) with pretty good success. I'm thinking of going that route as well. I think someone said the dump angle on the pass side is pretty drastic and there is a pretty good bend in the exhaust pipe but the exhaust works fine. Don't know how much I like that but don't know how bad it is either.

AJs72K5,
I've been keeping my eye on those too but I think they're gonna be pretty pricey.

Re: Big Block Headers

I just ordered Hooker Comp and have been told they fit better then the ones for our specific vehicles. they sit inside the frame rails and dont hit the ground.

Re: Big Block Headers

Let me know how they fit once you get them......

Re: Big Block Headers

I have a set of Hooker 2455-1 on my 67. The only problem I had was with the ART control arms on the driver side was really close to the hearder. I was really happy over all...
I can post pics later......

Re: Big Block Headers

Chevy Man, I love the way my headers fit with one probley. I have to order a new transmission cross member. The headers sit between the framerails and do not hang below much. I have a Trans Dapt 3in drop member on order. The headers are long but look good. They are big also, 2 1/4 primaies, 3 1/2 collector so if you are not over 500hp/tq it may not help your lowend much.

Re: Big Block Headers

I changed my build to go to a 4/6 ECE drop and am afraid my nice new headers are gonna scrape. So here is a bump for you and me....

Re: Big Block Headers

I have Hooker comps on mine, didn't fit them, it was all done by the PO. The fit is no problem and they sit between the rails but i'm unhappy with where the collectors sit....way to low. And as i'm planning on lowering my truck someday something will have to change.

I am looking for pics and part numbers as well.. From what I recall, Doug Thorley has a nice set of Tri-Y's.. but not cheap if I recall.

eightbanger or ripdog28...how far below the frame is the top of the collector on the Hooker Comps?

They took some work to get in. I had to get a Tubular 3in drop Trans member and i had to dimple two spots on the driver side one. 1 where the tube hit the tubular A-arm and also where it was hitting my Tubular motor mounts. it is a tight fit and the 2 inch primaries did not help much. If it was 1 5/6 i do not think i would have had a problem.

I'm confused....you've mentioned a couple of times that yours are 2.25" primaries, but the link you gave to the 2455's are 2" primaries.

Re: Big Block Headers

I do not know why i was doing that. You are correct they are 2inx30 and 3 1/2

AJs72K5, the top of my collector sits about 1 1/2 below the frame and it's about 5 1/2 from the ground to the bottom of the collector.

I am useing FlowTech Full-Length Headers with my 454BB and as you can see from the picture they do sit low just for now I have a set of summit Turbo mufflers so it can be driven, I will later be changing the Exhaust Systems.Heres a picture so you can see for yourself its not a good one but you can tell.. My drop is 2.5inch Spindles with 2inch Springs up front and 4inch drop Springs out back.... and forgot to mention I had no clearence problems with the frame rail, transmission crossmember or anything...

Re: Big Block Headers

Are the 2455s round or square exhaust port, my heads have the round port?Would they still work with a sq port and sq gasket? Thanks Brian

ripdog28 10-23-2009 06:37 PM

Re: Big Block Headers

The tubes are round but the flange is a bit squared. not to much, it still has some roundness.

Re: Big Block Headers

Thanks for posting the pics Ripdog. Since I'll be running these on my 4x4 with a lift, the drop below isn't a huge issue provided they clear my front driveshaft. The passenger side on the Hedman's I was running before hung waaaayyyy low. Looks like it's time to order a set of 2455's.

EDIT: I musta been really tired when I posted this...it was 1bagged67 that posted the pics. Thanks man.

My 67 Stepside is running a Gen VI tall deck big block with a 4 in drop in front and 6 in in the rear. Sanderson BB2 headers ($325.00 if you don't have them ceramic coated) fit just fine. They do not interfere with the starter or the frame on either side but , as you can see from the photo, they did make me relocate the oil filter.

Fitz do you have any pictures of them from the side looking under the truck to see how they look from the side do they hang below the frame or not? if so how much, I might be lookinf for a new set of headers in the near future and as for Sanderson well they make good headers and are close by
