Re: yet another MPG thread
250hp crate 350 with long tube headers.
sm465 with np205 3.73 gears other things are a flatbed (not sure if it helps or hurts) and 35x12.5 inch mud terrains... I get approximately 10mpg with my foot in it 80% of the time... generally 65mph+ |
Re: yet another MPG thread
Where's the 305? Seriously everyone hates that engine that much?
|
Re: yet another MPG thread
Mine's a toy, I don't give a damn what the mpg is.

Re: yet another MPG thread
bone stock 350 w/K&N air filter rollin on 31's, was gettin 14 mpg through the winter but the carb needs a rebuild and doesn't do good in the summer heat so now im down to 12.
|
Re: yet another MPG thread
I get about 5 to 7 in town with a 350 but that's all in town driving with stop in go traffic and a few jack rabbit starts

|
Re: yet another MPG thread
350 TH350 3:08s...8MPG. But Im 17 and sling the truck sideways at every turn.
|
Re: yet another MPG thread
'87 4x4 w/tbi 350. Motor only has about 200 miles on it, but so far I'm getting about 14 mpg. I have no idea what my gear ratio is. PO damaged RPO sheet in glove box. So far, I'm pretty content.
My '86 cc 454 got 5 mpg towing our new trailer back from K.C. 2 summers ago when gas was $4.00 a gallon. That was fun. |

Stock 454 with long tube headers and dual cats/exhaust - 10 mpg, no matter what.
|
Re: yet another MPG thread
my d/d is a stock 454 and I don't care about mpg .
|
Re: yet another MPG thread
364 6.0l getting 18 to 20mpg
|
Re: yet another MPG thread
My 77 has a GM Ramjet 350 that rated at 350 hp and 400 TQ. I am currently running 3.08 gears with a 700r4. How does it do on MPG? I have no idea, but I can tell you it puts a smile on my face every time I drive it. So I guess mine is getting at least 50 SPG (smile per gallon)....:burnout:
|
Re: yet another MPG thread
450hp/450tq 383ci with muncie 4spd, 3.42's and 28" tires and I average 14-15mpg mixed driving. I'll get 17 on a highway trip if I stay under 70mph. Someday I'll put a tko500 in it and start knocking down 20mpg. ;)
|
Re: yet another MPG thread
Original 350ci 400trans 3.73 gears 5000# 78 c20. I get 15mpg avaerage. **I get BETTER mileage (about 2MPG) on the freeway with the windows UP and the AC on then riding with the windows down... might be something to try for all the NON-OD people.
|
Re: yet another MPG thread
86 swb, 305/700r4 2.73 rear, P275/60R15 all the way around and I get 17mpg mix of city/highway. I've gotten as high as 18.7mpg and as low as 8mpg, but 17.xx is average.
|
Re: yet another MPG thread
Im guessing about 12mpg on a good day with my 355.
|
Re: yet another MPG thread
I get about 11 MPG average. 13 if im towing, Strange eh ? thats a 2005 4.6 ford F150
my old 86 C10 350/350/4.11 gears got 19 my 89 camaro 305 got 27mpg all day long but failed an e-test interesting huh |
Re: yet another MPG thread
Mine is getting close to 18 when I do drive it to work. the SEFI and overdrive do wonders. It has pretty decent power, too.
|
Re: yet another MPG thread
1984 longbed 6.2l/700r4 23mpg hwy
|
Re: yet another MPG thread
either zero or infinite. she doesnt run, turn over, cough, nothing.
|
Re: yet another MPG thread
454 tbi 400 3.08 gears 6mpg in town 11-12 highway.
The 308s make it lug itself right out of the power band in town. thats why a 5.3/4l60e and some 3.42s are laying in the shop floor. Mines a DD, and I care about mpg. Jay |
Re: yet another MPG thread
well my mileage isnt good at all. I dont sell crack but I wouldnt stop driving my truck if it only got .5 mpg, then again I only drive my truck for fun. I think calculating mpg on these trucks can never give you a consistent result. if your going against the wind you can cut the mileage in half.

Re: yet another MPG thread
I read the Quadrajet carb is more efficient than a 2 barrel. I got a 305, 4 speed 4x4 and the quadrajet, what could i expect as mileage?
|
Re: yet another MPG thread
I get a 1000 smiles a gallon
|
Re: yet another MPG thread
83 C20 stock Mr. Goodwrench 454 (slightly bored over) rebuild with 4 spd granny and 4:10 and gear vendor: 11 city, 13+ highway (but can go down to 9 city when using it as a dump truck or idling a lot.)

Giving your 305 is tuned alll the way areoung, id guess 14mpg give or take KEEP EM COMMING!! |
Re: yet another MPG thread
87 2wd swb, 305 TBI/700r4, 3.08 gears. 14 Mix. I would like to bring that up a tad. I drive it pretty easy. The transmission needs a rebuild, it slips a bit between gears so that probably doesn't help. The 305 is in good tune but definitely has some miles racked up. My s10 blazer 4x4 with the 4.3 tbi gets 17 mix, but is way underpowered compared to the 305 in my truck.
Future plans: rebuild 700r4, swap in an L31 350 Vortec while still using the TBI injection. |
Re: yet another MPG thread
7-8 mpg. 350/700r4/4:10 gears/ NP208/85 burb. Thats in town mixed punching on it and fuel sipping. 6.0L sitting on stand waiting for rest of parts. Will be carbed but hope to get same mpg with WAY more power. That will deff make the smiles per gallon go up.
