cheyenne-10 & super emblem location
I am wondering the proper alignment of the "super" in relation to the cheyenne-10 logo on the drivers side fender?
All the "restored trucks" have the super under the cheyenne on both sides. However, i have original 72 drivers side fender (without any bades) with the holes drilled and it would allow for placement for the right side of "super" emblem flush with the right side of the "10". Does anyone know for certain? thanks Jeff |
Re: cheyenne-10 & super emblem location
The super always lines with the "c" in cheyenne. Lots of psuedo supers are lined up on the 10 side and it is a dead give away to a truck that has had emblems added.

Re: cheyenne-10 & super emblem location
Harold is spot on, as the Super should start below the Cheyenne on both sides. Awhile back I made a drawing of my fenders, as it should be real close to accurate. Sometimes my eyes get the better of me on measuring. Trevor

Re: cheyenne-10 & super emblem location
Thanks Guys! I am thinking that fender is from a Custom/10 which had the deluxe set flush to the right on driver's side.

Thanks for that guide Trevor!

Re: cheyenne-10 & super emblem location
Ok, I know this is an oooollldddd thread, BUT, if the alignment of the "Super" is supposed to be "S" in super aligned under the "C" in cheyenne, then why are there SOoooo many out there that are done "incorrectly"? Ok, harsh word, what I mean is - "other than originally done by Mr. Chevrolet?" I mean -if you're gonna restore an original "super" then the holes are already in the right place - if you're gonna build a clone, why go to so much effort in the restoration and then drill the dang holes in the wrong place? Hmmm.
And I won't even go into the vertical spacing between the two.... Now, for me, I agree with the above statement that the Super is always aligned with the Cheyenne (i.e. "left justified" as you look at the emblems - from either side of the truck). And based on looking at the original 72 sales brochure, I'm assuming the exact same logic applies to the Custom Deluxe emblems (i.e. I think post #4 is incorrect (?)). Can someone put my mind at ease and settle this once and for all? - I'm actually losing sleep over this! (ok, that's an exaggeration, only for effect....) |
Re: cheyenne-10 & super emblem location
It they're in the wrong spot than either the truck is a Super clone, or maybe the fenders were replaced and whom ever did it installed the emblem in the wrong spot.

Re: cheyenne-10 & super emblem location
Not everyone pays attention nor has access to a build manual etc. If you look at a lot of the clones there are always missing pieces, tailgate handles being a huge one. All supers got a bright tailgate handle (if a fleetside), in 71 the actual handle was chromed, in 72 it was a slip on cover over the stock handle. These are very hard to find and only one person repops them (wes at classic heartbeat). It is funny that most of these clone trucks also ironically are missing the SPID on the glove box door as well. The headliner and cargo light are also indicators but can be faked and tough to tell unless you take out the liner or at least remove the trim- people snap off the tabs that locate it on the cab and just use the screws, and I would guess the cargo light interior holes are difficult to duplicate. These are just a few things that are give aways, but you have to look.

There is another problem you see pretty often, where it is correct on one side and incorrect on the other side. This could easily be done on new fenders where you use a pattern to drill the holes. This is done when people drill one fender and Flip the pattern instead of transposing it to the other fender.
This truck may not be a real super (wrong paint and no upper trim) but it is a good example of the flipped pattern. |

Re: cheyenne-10 & super emblem location
This thread makes me want to throw up. I used some fenders off of a 70 custom and never paid one bit of attention to this detail when I put my emblems back on. Argh!

Re: cheyenne-10 & super emblem location
Is this information in a assembly manual?

Re: cheyenne-10 & super emblem location
Can anyone tell me why the C20 big block Cheyenne Supers are easier to find than the C10 big blck supers? Thanks

Re: cheyenne-10 & super emblem location
Most 3/4 tons were made to tow or do heaving lifting where as a half ton would have been more for the experience. Even today, Diesels (kind of the same as the old big blocks) are the grunt pullers on 3/4 and 1 tons, but you cannot get one in a 1/2 ton. Depends on the duties you need, and most trucks back then were just that, Trucks. If you wanted a sporty powerful toy, you bought muscle cars then. Trevor

Havenīt noticed this before. When I restored my 71 Super I changed the left side front fender to a nice used one. It alreday had the emblem holes in it so I just used them:(
Now I can see the location is not correct for the left side but it is correct for the right side. Looking at old pics from before resto it was correct on the old (original?) left fender Hereīs a pic from the assembly manual that shows the Super emblem location; |

Re: cheyenne-10 & super emblem location
I hate to bring up an old thread, but I'm trying to install custom emblems in the factory location. They're billet and don't have holes in the factory location, so I can't use a factory holes to make it work. Plus, I really don't want to drill holes in my fenders that aren't the same as a factory emblem.
Can someone with a Cheyenne take measurements from the edge of the emblem to a good reference, like the back of the fender and possibly the body line above the lower trim, or the top of the fender (with a soft measuring tape)? I tried to recreate the emblem location based on measurements of an original Cheyenne emblem and the above referenced info and came up with about 3-3/4" from the rear edge of the fender to the emblem and 7-3/4" from the body line to the bottom of the emblem. It just looks too low and too far forward to me, but I don't have one nearby to compare with. |

I got a few photos of the Cheyenne emblems that might help a few members in the future. Thanks to Lolife99 (Keith) for the emblem stud measurements, and this page, I was able to get the emblem located, but looking at it, I was concerned it might be too far forward. Thanks to Chris on the 67-72chevytrucks.com Facebook page for the emblem on fender measurements. I was able to confirm what I had before mounting the emblems. Here are some pictures for reference.

Re: cheyenne-10 & super emblem location
So I wanted to revive this older thread as I had a few questions.
1. Does anyone have official drawings that shows the Cheyenne emblem placement. The drawing above when compared to the measuring tape photos after it, are not the same (not really close). The distance from the edge using measuring tape shows ~4-9/16 to the pin hole, but the homemade drawing shows 4-9/32”. I realize these were installed by hand, and thus differences, but this is a difference of over 1/4” and I wonder what the true drawing says. 2. Can anyone check/verify that the pins on both sides of the Cheyenne 10 emblem are the same distance away from their closest edge of the emblem? It doesn’t look like it on the measuring tape photos, but it could just be the angle. You really need them to be the same if you want the emblem to be in the same spot from one side of truck to the other (using the same dimensions to drill your holes). Thanks. |
Re: cheyenne-10 & super emblem location
Post #17 is from the factory assembly manual. Unfortunately it does not show dimensions from and edge as most of the drawings. Some drawings in the manual reference a point. That drawing does not. Regardless, I have not figured out how to determine where the reference point is located. Have a set of nos Cheyenne 10 emblems I can reference to my nos Custom 10 emblems and then measure the holes in my fenders next week.

This is from page 1013 of the Chevy Factory Assembly book - which you need the spread sheet to find anything (even then it hard due to no page numbers). Anyways, odd that it doesn't have a page to show how to center it on the fender - say if you are need to make holes for the Cheyenne 10 badge. Edit: rats, can't attach the "assembly manual index.xlsx" sheet :( |
Re: cheyenne-10 & super emblem location
I believe the holes for the larger emblem were drilled when the fender was manufactured. I bought a NOS fender a number of years ago, and that's how it came. You'll probably need to remove your Cheyenne emblems so that you can measure the SUPER emblem hole locations relative to the existing holes.
There's a photo of a NOS fender in this thread. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...ght=Nos+fender |
Re: cheyenne-10 & super emblem location
Ah, that's very interesting - how lucky to find a NOS fender!
I agree, fender comes off to get it right. |
Re: cheyenne-10 & super emblem location
I'd say the fender doesn't need to come off, but the Cheyenne badge does. Removing the inner fender makes it much easier to remove the badge.

Speaking of which, pjmoreland could you take a look at my photo in my Rebuilding / Installing Hinge Pillar to Fender Seal thread (post #12)? |
Re: cheyenne-10 & super emblem location
Hey pjmoreland, you mentioned it is a nice idea to pull the clip to get to my seals but if I was to go that route - would we be able to get to the Cheyenne emblem with the whole clip? Which I think means the inner fenders stay on.
Sorry if that is a stupid question, I just don't know these things. |
Re: cheyenne-10 & super emblem location
You'd definitely be able to get to the emblems with the front clip removed and the inner fenders still installed. The rear of the emblems are covered up by the cab, and the cab would be out of the picture.

Actually, back to just the fender route - I don't want to be messing with my AC connections and bits to get the clip off.

My brother's paint & body guy stopped by just after I had taped/marked holes for my super badge. So the passenger side is drilled and mouted!
Then he went over to the driver's side, which is still on and said I'll get this one drilled now. I reported, well I am not ready to pull that fender. He said, no problem I'll eyeball it. Just give me your tape, pencil, ruler. Gee, so glad he came by! |

Re: cheyenne-10 & super emblem location
Well done. I see so many “super” emblems oriented wrong at car shows. “Super” always aligns to the left. Great job.
|
Re: cheyenne-10 & super emblem location
Thank you, getting help here in the forums insured that it was done properly. I also was "super" lucky my brother's body/paint guy popped into his shop for a visit.
He really did impress me when he did the driver's side with the fender still on the truck. Drilling into my truck was freaking me out and in the end I avoided it! LOL! |
Re: cheyenne-10 & super emblem location
Richard, it looks very nice!
