1st time out of the garage, and now with bumpers on!

3 Attachment(s)
OK, hauled Yeller home from the paint shop MONTHS ago...at night, there he has been residing in the garage ever since. Today, I finally got the new bumpers on, and pushed him outside for the first photos since paint and assembly. Every piece of trim and all lenses are NOS, with the exeption of the upper/lower grill trim. All GM metal too, most of which is original 73. Hope you guys like the pics...completion is near!

Oh, please excuse the dirt/dust, I only cleaned the bumpers...I love em! Anyone notice anything different about them?

Those are the original '73 bumpers, had them shaved and re-chromed. :metal:

Thanks guys, getting excited to get the truck back on the road.

Love the subtle mods that no one notices, unless they really know these trucks and they will appreciate them even more. BTW now that is really making me waffle on painting my 73 blue

I agree about the subtle mods. I have a ton of them on this truck...I hope people notice without really noticing. ;)

I think your truck would look good in yellow...

Mirrors are gone and the drip edge on the cab has been removed and lastly the fuel filler door is gone. Where do you add the petrol? Behind the licence plate? Is there more stuff no one noticed?

73-80 models had recessed wipers hidden under the back edge of the hood.

I've seen alot of 73 models that never had drip rails on them from the factory. The fuel filler door was never on this year of truck either as the filler cap was on the passengers side of the truck right in plane sight.

Exterior has shaved door locks, cab seam, cargo light, trim, tailgate handle (only, kept the recess and Chevrolet), stake pockets, fuel doors (fuel cell under the bed), and bumpers Other stuff...black (vs chrome) window lock strips, solid back glass, and one piece windows. I have some stuff done on the inside and engine bay too.

on the shaved door locks did you just put in a key-less entry or? What is the backup plan if they fail? Is there a switch under the hood? I think I'm going to steal your shaved bed pockets idea too that looks too sweet not to.

They would not have been factory on a 1973. I think they were mostly an option on 74's and were standard by 75. I like the look of the smooth cab on the early models.
The truck looks great Jeff. Nice work .I imagine the feeling of driving it for the first time in years will only be outdone by the feeling of all that torque on hand when you push the loud pedal.

I don't know the history on the truck. As its a lien sale survivor.

Absolutely gorgeous, Jeff. My yellow '73 was pretty nice, and it doesn't even come close to yours. That will be magazine material when it is done.

That is one nice looking truck! I love the minor mods (stake pockets, fuel door, etc). I borrowed (stole) your fuel door idea for my truck. (Thanks!)

Looks fantastic. I've never seen the '73 grille with the trim pieces like that. I'd love to find a grille for my '73 in good condition like that.

Thanks everyone for all the positive feedback. I wasn't sure how most of the folks here would respond to it...it doesn't have a LS engine, 20 inch wheels or air suspension...just an old school truck with lots of custom, yet simple touches. It is built for me, and I am happy with it so far.

It is a custom blend, part Dodge Viper yellow and part Honda yellow

I am still not sure what I need to do there. I will likelt be posting a thread shortly on what I need, and should do. Regardless, guys do this all the time, so I am not re-inventing the wheel. ;)

That was an expensive 30 seconds, and part of the reason I tore the truck down...so I could restore it, and fix the stuff I damaged doing the burn out contest (nuked posi, bent bed floor, bent bedside). It was fun though, glad you liked the video

A magazine feature would be super neat, just not sure it will ever happen...my truck isn't exactly folowing todays trends

You didn't steal it, I put it out there and wrote the article so others could do the same if they chose. Have any pics of yours? Would love to see it.

Again, thanks everyone for the positive reception!
