1986 seat upholstery color question...Help please
4 Attachment(s)
I am in the process of ordering a front seat upholstery kit for the 86 crew cab and I am a little unsure what color I have. Havng had a few of these "tan" interiors I have always called it tan. Unfortunatley there is NO tan option from the vendors.
I am told from the pictures I sent the board vendor that it is Palamino vinyl and Sandstone Velour He is sending color swatches but while we wait for them I thought I would see what you all thought. Color swatches in the links below. http://acmeauto.us/gallery/main.php?g2_itemId=15970 http://acmeauto.us/gallery/main.php?g2_itemId=4391 |

Re: 1986 seat upholstery color question...Help please
Looks like saddle tan to me. I have a seat here similar to that that I can match a color sample up to it and sew you a couple of covers but I don't know the correct factory name for that color. If you want me to sew your seat covers up it would probably better if you sent me a sample from your seat that I can match the material up to.

Excellent!!!!.....if that in fact is the same color as Palamino vinyl and Sandstone Velour then I dont need the color swatches and can move forward with the order. |
Re: 1986 seat upholstery color question...Help please
I still would rather you select the colors you want. I sent you the range from light to dark for both vinyl and cloth. Dropped in the mail this morning.

Sounds good.......waiting by the box.

Re: 1986 seat upholstery color question...Help please
Palomino vinyl looks to dark in the links. The only reason I haven't ordered those exact colors for my truck is because of that. Please post back with what you come up with. I need a seat cover for my 86 and it is the exact same color as your truck inside.

I picked up some burb buckets & a console for my CC dually. Since the back seat is actually pretty clean, I was going to try & find some OE material to match. Please let us know how close the colors are. |

I have done some research and it looks like the colors that are offered are a VERY close match...not perfect...but close. Palamino vinyl and Sandstone Velour
However...for those doing a crew cab, blazer or suburban....the ones that are being offered are not an exact recration and if you are only doing part of your interior they WILL NOT MATCH the rest of it. The OE seats are made of (2) cloth type materials and (1) vinyl. The seats covers that are being offered are made of (1) cloth and (1) vinyl. There are 2 types of cloth that make up an OE seat and these covers are made only of the material that the "band" across the top back and down the center is made of. The stiching and patters are the same but thats it. See the picture below....the covers are made of the top material only. If anyone has a link to an exact recreation that is offered please post it up. |
Re: 1986 seat upholstery color question...Help please
So the material w/the 'woven pattern' is not used, just the 'plain' cloth in its place? The colors, piping, & seat stitch pattern are the same?
|
Re: 1986 seat upholstery color question...Help please
The lower cloth looks similar to the "Pallex" cluth that was offered in a lot of Pontiacs in teh 80's, too. I had a set of Sub buckets repaired using the original cloth a long time ago, and they wwere able to source the original material. That was probably 10 years ago. It might be worth the trouble to check a local upholstery shop, too.

That is correct as far as the suppliers I know. I asked my vendor, just waiting on a response. The only "patterened" pieces I have don't match the factory, this is them:

<< My buddy has the piece on the left. That's what he was going to try to find a color match for.

The search for an exact replica in the upholstery is what I am working on cuirrently, so far none that are offered are correct. Please let me know if you come up with anything. If I was doing a pick up truck with one seat it would be fine but for those doing a crew cab or a suburban its important to have a close upholstery match if you are not doing all the seats. |

Re: 1986 seat upholstery color question...Help please
If possible, I'd like to see pics of the final sample and the manufacture codes of the cloth since I'm getting ready to do the samething on a 1986 crewcab K30.

Re: 1986 seat upholstery color question...Help please
So far it looks like the "correct" original style upholstery kit is NOT available. I have the center material in route and I am going to have it sewn in. My vinyl and the top and center materila is good so I am going to have the baffles sewn in if the color is still a close match, If not I am going to have the seat re done completley.
