where are the c20 lowering parts?

have a 71 suburban c20 with 38k original miles and want to lower it with spindles/spring up front and ? out back. needs to stay 8 lug. it will be my tow rig. want to go 5"/7". any ideas? i know how the middle child feels now. left out. thanks, glen

Re: where are the c20 lowering parts?

You could run c10 drop springs and lower it, but that would drop your weight capacity for towing. What do you have in the back, coils or leaves? If you have coils in back you could use air bags to get the drop you want and keep the load cap, really you could do the same in front too. Another option would be to chop your front springs, that's what I did and it got me 3" lower. Now if you have leaf rear you can pull leaves or get your re-arched, or do an axle flip. Oh and with a 7" drop in rear you will need a c-notch, especially if you are gonna haul.

thanks, its coil rear. i know i have to c notch the rear. i want to keep her 8 lug f/r. have stock hubcaps coming and want to put 16x10 and 16x8 steelies on it.

GMC Paul sells drop springs for 67-72 C20's. I think they are custom built for the order.

This will not get you the 5" front drop you are looking at.

Early Classic http://www.earlyclassic.com/catalog.aspx offers a front spindle conversion to change it over to 1/2 ton and a drop spindle.

-20 ¾ to ½ Ton Conversion 2½" Drop Spindles
http://www.earlyclassic.com/ProductImages/901-7187C.jpgLooking to convert your ¾ ton Truck to ½ ton front suspension? We are proud to introduce the only C-20 to C-10 2½" Drop Spindles available on the market. (disc brakes required).
Over the years, we’ve had many customers with C-20 8-lug Trucks that would like to convert over to the better riding C-10 suspension and change their wheels to either a 5-lug or 6-lug bolt pattern. These new Conversion Spindles allow you to upgrade to C-10 front disc brakes on the ’60-’70 model Trucks, and give you the option of 2½" front Drop Spindles for the same price without having to change your tie rods and ball joints.
Several options are available to change the rear suspension and axle as well, and our technical support staff is more than happy to explain the different methods and choices available for each Truck year and model. Give us a call, we’re here to help!

Please post back what other solutions you end up finding....

First I had heard of these too!

I wonder if they are different from the ECE spindles as they require 1/2 ton brake rotors. Makes me wonder if they will still be 8 stud.

http://www.performanceonline.com/196...P-SPINDLE-SET/

Here is what their website states:

These hot items lower the front of your vehicle without affecting ride quality or suspension geometry and bolt directly to the original ball joints.

Requires disc brake application.

Please specify year and model.

Use OEM ball joints.

All spindles require heavy duty 1/2 ton rotors.

You should be looking at these:
http://www.performanceonline.com/197...P-SPINDLE-SET/
Click the drop down box for the C20 spindles.
They keep your truck 8-lug.(part# DS7187 FOR $399 for drop spindles only)
They are listed as 71-87 spindles.

You guys converting 63-70 trucks,... you will need to change balljoints and tie rods.

Board member Mulk lowered his 3/4 ton 'burb all with suspension components from POL,... including the C20 drop spindles.
He used this kit:http://www.performanceonline.com/196...-DELUXE-16682/

You might get faster response via email...then again you might have. Paul is a straight shooter plus he "knows" these trucks. Good luck! :metal:

So to go with drop spindles and disk brakes what do you do about the master cylinder? I have power drum brakes on my 68 C20.

Have you looked at Wheel Vintiques?
(maybe 17's)

I thought Stockton Wheel had terrible reviews and customer service?

72k5zl1 12-17-2010 03:40 PM

Re: where are the c20 lowering parts?

yes, wheel vintique's wont work with oe hubcaps. i may run 15s with bfg silvertown 285 70 15s out back and some 235s up front. big white walls. dont know how that will look on white steelies. did argent silver ever make it on the truck rims back then?

Re: where are the c20 lowering parts?

In speaking with RenoKeene, he mentioned going with 3/4 ton suspension. I already have the disc conversion from 73-87 C/10 up front - well, let me back up. I have a C/10 with the 6BT (Cummins 5.9), and I want to go just a hair lower...I like the look of the 4"/6", and I still want to be able to use my truck to tow, carry, whatever....I still want it to behave like it should with hauling....just lower, faster and not exposing the oil pan to raccoons and squirrels...what do you suggest?

I thought about airbags, but I just want the truck lowered and road worthy, and if at all possible, something that I could put on one track or another...we'll see what that means.

legendary 12-17-2010 03:44 PM

Re: where are the c20 lowering parts?

PS - I like what RenoKeene suggested, I actually want to know if anyone knows if the C/20 suspension parts will lower the truck or make it stay where it is with the motor being what it is (1,100 lbs)

I thought Wheel Vintiques was making oem wheels.
I know they have them in 5x5 now.

I bought the POL 2.5 /4" kit with the disc brake conversion.
They weren't in stock when I ordered.
When they did arrive they were mismatched, required machining and complete reassembly. The wheel studs are a different thread than original (and my rears now).
The master cylinder was defective, they did credit me back after I purchased a second one and shipped the defective unit back to them.
The shocks that were listed for c20s had the wrong ID.
The panard bar was the incorrect length.
Their customer service left it to me to figure it out stating "we sell 100s of lowering kits".
I won't be going back to these guys. Maybe they do better with half ton stuff.
