Mirrors or no Mirrors
I'm putting one piece windows in my truck...I want to now whether you think I should keep the mirrors where they are, move the mirrors forward to show off the one piece windows some more, or get rid of the mirrors totally...If I keep the mirrors, I'm gonna stay with the dumbo mirrors...I don't think the sport mirrors look good on these trucks at all so I won't be putting those on here...
Also, this truck is going to be my demo vehicle for my new interior business that I'll be opening soon...I have big custom plans for this truck...it'll have all the factory trim, a 73-74 front end, I'll be keeping the door handles, and Porterbuilt gear up front and out back...I want the truck to look factory on the outside with subtle touches and have a kickass interior... thanks for the suggestions fellas... Re: Mirrors or no Mirrors
If you keep them leave them where they are. I would keep them, I think they look good on these trucks.

Re: Mirrors or no Mirrors
I like where they are mounted. I have not seen anyone move their mirror forward at all, but it might look good with the one piece window.

Re: Mirrors or no Mirrors
It would probably make the door look longer, maybe try and bolt them on in the front hole and then photoshop out the mounting holes ?
|
Re: Mirrors or no Mirrors
One piece windows with elephant ears ??? if anything leave the mirrors off completely ;)
|
Re: Mirrors or no Mirrors
No mirrors, especially with 1 piece glass.
73/74's didn't have dumbos either, they would look totally out of place IMO on the truck. |

This will give you an idea on how it will look with no mirrors and one piece windows (it is my truck, and what I will be running). I kept the door handles, but shaved the locks. Similar look for what you are going after,

Re: Mirrors or no Mirrors
Thanks Jeff. You are the man. I totally forgot that you shaved the mirrors but kept the handles and had the one piece windows. I'm pretty sure I just made up my mind. That looks spot on right there. Thanks

Re: Mirrors or no Mirrors
How much would you want for the mirrors? Haha. What color are you planning on for the exterior? It definitely won't look right with the dumbo mirrors if you were to run mirrors

Re: Mirrors or no Mirrors
When I decide to sell them I'll be sure to put you at the top of the list. They are in great condition. I'm painting it the factory blue and white, but not the blue that's on it now. It'll be the light blue from 1973.

Re: Mirrors or no Mirrors
Power mirrors from an 89-91 Silverado packaged BLAZER,BURB or CREW CAB and mount them as far forward as possible.

Re: Mirrors or no Mirrors
I'm trying to go as old school with the body of the truck as possible. So no power mirrors. I actually just sold a set the were in great shape. I'm gonna take the mirrors off.
The front end is the factory frontend off my 84. As far as I can remember there's nothing wrong with the grill or headlight buckets. I think all the chrome and tabs are still there. I may throw it up on the wall of my new shop. If I don't keep it, I'll be sure to give you first dibs when I post it for sale. Posted via Mobile Device |

def. no mirrors with one piece glass, but if you drive it daily you'll want at least a drivers side mirror!...
|
Re: Mirrors or no Mirrors
It would LOOK better with with the one piece glass with no mirrors at all, but I hate driving something with no mirrors, or the little useless mirrors.
|
Re: Mirrors or no Mirrors
Well it'll either be those little round mirrors or no mirrors.

Re: Mirrors or no Mirrors
I would thin you want as small a mirror as you can use since there will be no way to brace it from the backside with one piece windows. The door seems like it will get pretty flexible once the one piece glass is installed since the vent windows actually add support to the outside sheet metal . The dumbo mirrors also have a rod that mounts to the inside of the door and the lower mounting bolt (?) ,if I remember correctly ,to strengthen the outer skin of the door with that big mirror on it .I have seen those mirrors added to older trucks without the correct mounting rod and they always shake when driving and opening/closing the door . With the custom touches you are planning I would think some sort of small custom mirror would accent the truck and interior well.

Re: Mirrors or no Mirrors
Dumbo Mirrors! Hands down best looking truck mirrors off all time
|
Re: Mirrors or no Mirrors
Yeah Frank, I hadn't thought about the support. I'm either going to go with no mirrors or the little round ones. I'm leaning more toward the round ones because I really want mirrors outside and I think it won't look so much like a trailer queen with the mirrors on there even though they're tiny.

Re: Mirrors or no Mirrors
I will be finding out within a few eeks all about the one piece swap. ill take plenty of pics and probably post a thread. Im building a shortbed for a buddy in the air force who's comin in on sunday to see how his truck looks now and drop some more money. So Monday im ordering a kit so i can get all the glass in, keep the interior clean that way.
How many companies are making the kits? I was gonna probably order from brothers. |
