Nice blazer, How far are going with the build? It seem that there is no end sometimes. my 72 is medium blue & white, its torn into 1000 parts. it was on the back burner compared to other projects they are done and sold and blazer is number one and the build has started!!! I think I will start my own thread as soon as I get the pictures figured out. One more thing I didn't think they had
IN-OUT in Chicago???? (Attenna cup topper on the car).

It came from New Mexico. It is nice and straight just very dusty. Im going to paint it the original blue with blue interior. I was toying with the idea of hugger orange but I think I should keep it the original color. No sure if Im going to keep the swing out exterior spare tire or not though.

Re: BBrendal's 1972 K5 build thread

I am thinking of possibly staying with the white interior intead of switching to blue. It is a highlader but Im thinking of going with the white seats with the black houdstooth. I know you have to be a little more careful with the white seats but is it a total pain in the a$$ to keep looking good? If I do a blue int its going to be the blue vinyl seats. So my questions are...

1 Does white demand alot of up keep?
2 Blue vinyl or white hounds tooth interior?
3 Keep the rear swing away tire carier or lose it?

Any help, thoughts, ideas or experiences are really appreaciated.

Re: BBrendal's 1972 K5 build thread

#3-keep the tire carrier! mine came with the original carrier, just need to reinstall it. Also in the first pic it looks like you have one of those sweet pop up camper vents installed in the top! Is It? Mine had two installed by the original owner, I was so mad I ended up selling the top...Still kicking myself for that but living in SoCal the top has always been off and never needed it anyway...Might go with the new style soft topper some day.P.S. white interior is a pita but looks great when new! Nice BLAZER!!!

I`d guess that you aren`t going to be driving this in dirty, just got off work, nasty cloths, if it were me I`d keep the white highlander option in tack, might be a little too plaid for some, but it`s original and cool as all hell in my book, there`s my 2 cents.

Are the Highlander seat covers reproduced?

DEISS 02-02-2011 09:34 PM

Re: BBrendal's 1972 K5 build thread

The highlander plaid material is available last I checked at SMS auto fabrics, 350 South Redwoood St., Canby, OR. 97013, I sent off for a free sample and was absolutely impressed with the sample they sent me, $89 a yard, by the way I dig your Blazer and look forward to the build, Jack.

Well my truck made it to the body shop today. I should have it back in 4 to 6 weeks. Im still not sure on the color to do. I like the blue and I like to keep things original but that hugger orange sure looks good. Any opinions on changing color?

Re: BBrendal's 1972 K5 build thread

Well I went to the body shop today and some progress made. Front end is all in primer and now there taking out some small dents. Ive decided to stay with the blue paint and white top with no rear exterior spare tire. The camper mirrors are being changed to sport mirrors as well. The interior (as of now) is going to be blue vinyl because to get highlander seat covers again seem to be a pain in the a$$. Plus I like the blue vinyl BUT Im also liking the white and black houndstooth but Im concerned with the upkeep of that to keep it looking good. The wheels are going to be 15 X 8 stock white rims with bottle cap style hub caps with a set of 33x12.5 BFGs.

That's great progress! I'm in the primer stage myself, but I think your body shop is working a heck of a lot faster than I am! Keep up with the pics. It helps motivate some of us!

I think it is a perfect color combination as it is. Mine is in the body/paint shop too. FWIW, I took the swing away tire carrier off mine and will install a stock inside carrier.

i have the Black and white houndstooth interior in my Blue and white Jimmy and it looks AMAZING! it is really hard to keep the white from yellowing if you sweat alot, i keep my drivers seat under a cover!

Hopefully sometime in May. It depends on how slow the body shop is. My truck is one of those "fill in" jobs to keep his guys busy. I cant complain since hes giving me a great deal.

Where are you getting your 15x8 stock wheels, I can't find them anywhere without going aftermarket.

The wheels are already got! I was able to get 2 wheels from a guy that had an extra 2 and the other two I got are NOS on ebay. I was able to get the stock blue bow tie bottle caps as well. I think I got lucky because I was able to score all 4 rims within 3 weeks. They were not cheap but they were cheaper then new aftermarket aluminums. I searched military blazers and was able to find the 15x8 weels I needed. I do need 2 front 4x4 bottle caps if any one can help me out.

Yea i've got WTB adds in a few places looking for them off of old CUCV K5's. As far as the hubcaps are concerned, i've got you beat, I have two NOS front dogdish hubcaps two perfect rear ones but only the stock 15x6 wheels soo far. If you come across more 15x8's let me know and i'll keep my eye out for hubcaps. Btw within the last few weeks a full set of hubcaps went on ebay cheap, like 30 bucks. Try all kinds of different searches, sometimes people list them wrong.

Im still not sure if I shoud stay with the rally wheels on them. (all cleaded up of corse) or put the 15 x 8 stock white wheels with the bottle caps. I need to figure it out before I get the 33 inch BFGoodrich A/Ts. Any ideas or comments???
