Finally!!... found a 4x4!!!

Ok, well its not the K20 CST or Cheyenne i was planning on but I came across this and could not pass it up. Sorry about the crappy photos. I made a down payment and need to figure out how I'm going to get it yet. I may just have it shipped and budgeted for that but may road trip it- need to do some thinking. Its near portland, OR and I'm in MN

'67 custom. Supposedly original body, frame, engine, drivetrain, interior, clean title. Will be a project though- rust, dents and hasn't ran in 5 years. Its also got the big window.

Re: Finally!!... found a 4x4!!!

That is a nice 67. You dont see many 67 4x4 gmc's. Even better it is a custom with the chrome trim. What does that emblem on the side look like? My truck has a chrome vent that says custom on it.

Most 67 gmc's did not have a spid in the glovebox, mine does not. Do you know if this truck does? Also being a Fremont truck, it is a good possibility that you may find the buildsheet.

That's a nice '67 GMC K2500. It's the Custom which had some trim. It would have had side mouldings originally. The fender badge is the "Custom" script. The Super Customs had the rectangular Badge with "Custom" on it. Don't ask me why,but they don't say Super Custom anywhere on the truck. Is it a V6,inline,or 327?

I think its a 1/2 ton due to the VIN and seller said 1/2 ton also. I hope its still configured with the original running gear. The determining factor for me on this one was the originality and the somewhat scarcity of a '67 4x4. Also has a pto driven winch that I can use. Yes, this has the "custom" script badge. 305 V6 but it may be locked up. I'd like to keep it original so need to do some research and see if it is worth trying to resurrect the engine.

Super custom is the equivalent of CST for GMC, correct?

There is no trace of SPID on the glovebox door. I'm hoping to find the build sheet. Keeping my fingers crossed on that one.

Just checked and its 1800 miles each way. Maybe if my brother hadn't sold his Dmax I'd consider it. One things for sure, if I drove out there and back, i'd be bringing some more stuff back such as a cab or two.

Shipping is looking like $1000 and gas would be that much to go there and back so I'll probably just have it shipped. I loaded the info on Uship so hopefully I'll get some decent bids from reliable guys there.

Re: Finally!!... found a 4x4!!!

Nice looking truck! It looks to me like it is a 1/2 (no hubs sticking out of the back wheels). My truck has one of those "motor minder" vacuum gauges in it too, but they hacked my panel to put it in. My truck had the 305 v6 in it originally, then it spun a bearing and my dad and I found a 351 v6 that we rebuilt and dropped in, then that one spun a bearing so I dropped in a 350 small block. Those V6's will pull anything and last forever, just don't wind it up too much or it will spin bearings and don't expect more than 12 MPG. Let us know how shipping goes.

Re: Finally!!... found a 4x4!!!

There is a guy down this way that has a running 351 V6, just to put a thought in your head.

I agree if you find a 351 get it, it will bolt in with no mods and has a bit more Torque.

That was the eagle truck from MT, right? Please post his info or PM me if you think he may be able to haul this one. I'll consider a 351 but I'd like to keep it original as possible unless it just isn't practical. I'm thinking about doing a total frame up on this one to stock specs but won't know for sure until i check it out more.

Jacfourteen, how do you like the motorminder gauge?

Just in case, i know of a 64 burb up here with the 305 still in it that turned over last summer. Maybe some parts for ya if needed.

Yes the eagle, I'll pm you his info. Thanks Randy

The gauge works well, good for carb tuning and if you watch it you can train yourself to drive more efficiently (High vacuum = better MPG) Plus it's just cool to have a vac gauge

Cool, I will keep that in mind. I could use a trip up that way anyways.

So far no bids through Uship. I wonder if the fact that it doesn't run is turning away many bids?

Vintage Windmills 01-17-2011 10:24 PM

Re: Finally!!... found a 4x4!!!

Thanks for the contact info Randy. Unfortunately did not return my call so he isn't interested.

Finally got a bid on Uship but at $1350 it is a little higher than the online estimators.

I'm tempted to make a road trip out of it and pick up a cab or two and tailgates along the way but its winter so that would have to wait. I think I'll give it another couple weeks and hope for more bids.

Jud

My '72 has a vacuum gauge mounted and I love it. All cars should have one. It's amazing how you can lift your foot a bit, maintain the same speed, and decrease fuel consumption. Mine is the large gauge with color coded ranges.

Re: Finally!!... found a 4x4!!!

If it runs and drives well enough to get it up on a convoy truck you might get a better shipping offer from one of them. They don't do rigs that don't run as a norm though.

Are 4X4's hard to find in your area? I always wonder when I see these type of threads, because our trucks are all over the place out here.

Looks like a good start for a project you got there, have fun with it.

The 4x4's that were here were dissolved long ago by the salt. The 2wd's were more common to begin with and weren't on the road as much during the winter so more survived. What also attracted me to this one is the originality, 67 bbw, custom, winch, lwb, etc. Know anyone that would like to haul this for around $1100?

One state over from him its the same way. The guys that had 4x4s literaly ran them into the ground as a ranch/farm pickup that never got washed or cared for other than oil changes. You can find 2wd 1/2 and 3/4 tons here all over but shortboxes and 4x4s that still look like a pickup are like hens teeth here and people want an arm&leg for them. I got lucky with my 70 since it was sold to a ranch brand new and was there almost its whole life and there is hardly any rust but not a straight panel on it. I wasnt even looking for one but some one found it, told me and the price was awesome compared to other 4x4s around here so I jumped.
To the OP love the 67, would love to have one like it, being 1st year and all. Good luck getting it home. If you get it yourself let me know as you will probably be traveling a short distance from me and we could meet up.

Re: Finally!!... found a 4x4!!!

Maxxd07,

I will keep that in mind if i do roadtrip it. My brother is in grand forks and sometimes we make it out to the Minot area. I enjoyed the thread where you got your 4x4 and your father in laws truck. Funny thing- i was doing a google search for 67 4x4 and a truck almost exactly the same as mine showed up on an appraisal site from an auction co. It was a ND truck and also was a 305 custom with front mounted PTO winch! The price was only available to members though so I don't know how much it went for.

Re: Finally!!... found a 4x4!!!

My mom has some relatives that live all over the cities, talking about a small world. St. Paul, Minneapolis, Oak Grove, Andover, Plymouth, Elk River, and Coon Rapids. She is from northern MN and is from a big family. Its been a while since we have been down your way other than the old man and me picked up a semi in Rogers in August. I myself like road trips but like you said if you can ship it cheaper thats the way to go. I know of a cab that needs floors, rockers and corners if you are looking for a cab along the way. ;)

Here are some more pics.

I wanted a project, looks like i'm getting one:lol: I wonder if i'll have to replace the cab. I think the rust on the inside is surface rust. The vent window has been out so moisture has been getting inside the cab for years. All looks pretty original, hopefully the seat is also. I'd like to find build sheet in the seat since there was never a SPID in this truck or some other 67's as far as we can tell.

Does anyone know if the pto shifter looks correct? Shifters and levers galore in this truck! Is the gray interior color rare?

Thats a lotta sticks! LOL! Don't know about the color. I'd be concerned about anything that can trap mold tho, mainly the smell, like the seat cushin

I'd like to restore the truck the way it was so I'll be keeping that in place.

Are the mirrors unusual? Can't remember seeing any just like this

I've got a bid for 1200 so I think I'm going to line that up.

Does anyone have any pointers on how to safely pay and keep truck secure until it is picked up? I'm thinking I could have him mail me the title, then I send the last $200 or something? I have no reason to trust him and no reason to distrust him.

:cong: Vintage Windmills on your purchase. Looks like a super sweet truck to fix up. What I also noticed is the way so many offered help with ideas. That's what makes this forum so special.
