Jason, great job so far! After talking with you the other night, I remembered I know where there a couple of these old trucks sitting. They are south of Baxter. I don't know if they will sell parts off of them, but I'll gladly show you were they are at. One was a lwb in pretty decent shape.

lately i've been working on the bed, drivers side and the front peice. i had to trim off the bottom 6" all around the inside of the box because of rust. i had a local guy bend the sheet metal. i took the hood and right bed side in to my local body shop to get dents pulled out. i got the intake swapped and my new holly put on the 350. yesterday i cut out one of my cab corners and cut off the lower cowls.

A few more pictures

Are you liking the Chassis Saver?

1964c-10 03-31-2011 09:49 PM

Re: My 1964 C10

I am pretty happy with it, i brushed it all on and some places on the bottom of the cab kinda bubbled- it looks like i painted over sand blasting sand but i know i had it clean. after 1 coat on the chassis i went around and touched up places were the paint was light and you can clearly see the difference between 1 and 2 coats. the areas with 2 coats are a lot more shiney than where there is only 1 coat so i need to put a second coat over the whole thing. it seems to be pretty tough stuff (I still have some stuck on my skin after 2.5 weeks) i dont know how it would compare to POR 15 because i ve never used it before.

i let some set up in a pop bottle i was painting out of, and after cutting the bottle off the paint is like a plastic. (hope that makes sense).

my advice for brushing it is to put on as light of a first coat as you can to prevent runs, and wear gloves and long sleeves to keep the stuff off your skin.

Re: My 1964 C10

Thanks for the onfo, my local paint place is trying to talk me into it. How shiny is it, think it would clash with flat black on the other areas of a truck?

Re: My 1964 C10

you can kinda see in my pictures that it comes out in a gloss or high gloss finish. but remember you can top coat it with whatever you want from my understanding.

Shot some paint for the first time this weekend! it came out pretty well considering my skill level, no runs! i decided to go the base/clear route, because it is going to offer the most protection against weather, rocks, scratches. i used Dupont basecoat/ Nason clearcoat 3 coats color 2 coats clear, i still need to sand and buff the clear.

sorry for not posting any updates lately for anyone who is following this build. i have been working on finishing up the bodywork on the cab, and will have the bondo finished today and it should be in primer tonight and paint tomorrow. i will get some pics of the process and post them up on monday probably.

this weekend i got the cab painted inside and out. went with the original two tone paint scheme - fawn and ivory. it came out pretty well except for a few runs in the clear on the roof but nothing i can't fix.

Re: My 1964 C10

I dont have any new pics, but since my last post i've gotten the cab mounted, pedal assm. installed, steering column in, tranny in, gauge cluster in, and the motor will be going in tomorrow and probably ready to run friday. i ordered my Hooker 2452's last night so whenever they come i'll start the motor.

Man, that thing is looking good! I have always liked the Fawn/Ivory color combo, too.

Post pictures when you can. Love to see the progress.

today i got the "new" clutch put in (was bought in '97 but never installed). dropped the motor in but havent bolted it down yet due to concerns about header installation, put on new carrier bearing, and got my air bags plumbed. my rear bags are slowly leaking right now but i haven't started rechecking fittings yet, maybe tomorrow.

1st pic- motor put in- bags aired out
2nd pic- my cleaned up gauge cluster
3rd pic- bags aired up

You may have the same issue i had here IF you are referring to the header and clutch linkage concerns. On mine, the down leg of the clutch pivot arm was hitting the rear header tube. I heated the arm right where it is welded to the tube and bent it inside until it cleared the header. Then i got a 3/8" heim joint and threaded that onto the end of my clutch rod so it would all rotate as it should. So far it appears that it will work perfectly. I will try to get some pics of what i did this weekend for ya. I am running headers for a 73-87 truck.

Re: My 1964 C10

that would be very helpful. i have been wondering about the clutch linkage, the 3 on the tree linkage, and how will they clearance the frame.

Monday i got my headers in and installed. both arms on the z bar were hitting header tubes, so i bent the one that hooks to the pedal outwards and the one that connects to the clutch arm I cut off and moved it 7* rearwards this getting the proper clearance.

Tuesday i fabricated most of my exhaust (need to mount the bed to figure out where the tips are going to be mounted) I had to make my own collector flanges because nobody in town had the right ones, and im impatient. the exhaust comes out of the headers then ducks under the frame and outside the frame.

yesterday i made an alternator bracket (according to the parts store they don't make alternator brackets for headers)and finished hooking up the motor, tried starting but my dissy was off a tooth, moved it and wasn't getting any spark anymore. put in new dissy today with the same problem, finnaly figured out that the dissy was properly grounded when i first tried starting it but after moving it a tooth i didn't put the clamp back on causing it to not be grounded.

finally today i got the motor started and ran my front brake lines

v a couple more exhaust pics- i have about 6" of clearance between the collectors and the ground

Even if it isn't 100% done, as long as you can drive it safe, bring her on down man!

thanks fryer!

Ryan at the very least it will be a chassis/cab, i'm more concerned if it will be legal to drive it by then, i havent really checked into what i need to do to get it reregistered and licensed yet

Re: My 1964 C10

well i finished getting the brake lines installed yesterday, and got my shifter linkage working working properly.

i took the truck out for a couple laps around the barn yard yesterday - this was my first time ever driving the truck and it was a blast!

Re: My 1964 C10

well i broke my hand about 1 1/2 weeks ago and had to have 2 pins put in it, so progress has been pretty slow lately between that and the summer class i have been taking.

lately i have been working on piecing my bedsides together, i had to graft the top portion of 1 bedside onto another, and both sides needed rear quarter panels, and the part that the tail light mounts to. i might be laying some bondo tommorrow hopefully.

i recieved my power lock/ alarm kit from Classic Industries last week and have it wired up as much as possible right now, still need to do some sheet metal work, sand blasting, and bondo on the doors.

i think the only major parts that i am still needing are my carpet and seat covers which are on back order at Classic Industries.

For those who may not know, i am planning on having this truck painted and put back together for the Good Guys show in Des Moines July 1-3. my deadline is creaping up fast, but if i get those parts in i think i can make it!
