yeeha it moves, and does it have to be lowered to be cool???

ok first off, after all the work and money getting everything back in a proper condition the 76 swb moves. Originally a 6cyl 3spd truck with no air and no power brakes, now it has a 350/eldebrock performer rpm/eldebrock 650 carb/headers/and a 200-4r trans....and it finally moved "under its own power at that"...lol.......now on to the big question....The truck is fairly low already, and i need it to pull one of my offroad trucks.. so i cant slam it all the way, besides i have no desire to drag my frame...maybe go faster than i should but....i would like to drop the front by 2" as the truck has no rake at this point...so here is my question....Does it have to be lowered to be cool????

thank for your response

Re: yeeha it moves, and does it have to be lowered to be cool???

that answer depends on the person asked. personally if lowering it wont impede your towing ability do it. i like to see lowered trucks towing lifted trucks.

Re: yeeha it moves, and does it have to be lowered to be cool???

I don't think so, especially as a tow vehicle, but power brakes may be an upgrade you'll want, and let's see it;)

Yeah, its gotta be lowered or lifted if you want to hang out with the cool kids after school.
Lower it and add a helper bag out back. That way you have cool and functional at the same time. ;)

Yep, and real men dont modify their Camaro or Vette either! LOL!!

STOCK SUCKS, but thats just my opinion. Very seldom do I see something totally stock that I really dig.

Re: yeeha it moves, and does it have to be lowered to be cool???

I would rather eat a work than drive a stocker. That's what we used to say anyway.

Of course as the squares get older and more rare, its kind of nice to drive a bone stock truck that is 30+ years old. The older they get the more difficult it becomes to keep them stock. So that is kind of my new challenge.

The real answer is: Do what fits you. Budget and taste wise. But...Lets see some pics.

ha ha lol....boy it seems that the question of lowering the truck is kinda like asking if obama is doing a good job...lol...but thanks..pics should be coming later today or tommorow so just hold on....however the poor gal aint much to look at...kinda like that girl at the corner bar... ya know, grill is allright, ehh body is pretty good, could lose a few pounds, get some new shoes, and definitely needs make up.....but what do ya get for 400$ these days...

Wow, a stranger reading this might think they accidentally clicked on a Jeep forum! Guess I'm the only real man left on the internet... :chop:

To be fair though stock for me is a 2 wheel drive 3/4 ton with 9 leaf springs in the back. Gives it some subtle rake and is at a nice driving height.

So in the end, I guess a real man does what he wants... until he gets married :waah:

Re: yeeha it moves, and does it have to be lowered to be cool???

I love a well preserved classic. One that's been taken care of, looks really great and purs with nostalgia. It's ok if it's had a few modifications to make it a little better. The paint may not be perfect, but it looks good when waxed.

Sometimes, though, we like to take a trip to the Chevy Dealership and scope out the new models. Oh, what they've done with the headlights on these newer models! Check out the rear bumper and exhaust on that model. Notice how the steering is much tighter than the older models?

There's much to be said about how we perceive and prefer our vehicles...and our women.

There you go again..... Strangers might read what you said & agree w/us.

To say others aren't "real" because they don't share your views on how a vehicle should sit/ride is a good example of how close-minded some people still are.

Re: yeeha it moves, and does it have to be lowered to be cool???

From a practical standpoint, mine has 2 1/2 drop spindles front, 4" drop rear with shackles and brackets. First thing I noticed was that it corners a LOT better with the lower center of gravity. That alone is worth the work. So, if you're going to tow something, that lower center of gravity will help with directional stability, also. But that's just me.

If you want to have a threesome with cool and awesome one must find a way to LIFT and LOWER their truck simotaniously... Case and point.

Ah well, I guess my attempt at humor was a failure.

OP- do what you want to make your truck how you like it.

Re: yeeha it moves, and does it have to be lowered to be cool???

I just love these trucks. Lifted or Lowered, doesn't matter. I like seeing them on the highway joining the ranks of new cars. What I appreciate most is a truck height that allows the truck to function as a truck. Some are just for show, and some do work while looking good as well.

My '79 is stock height... Stock height but here's the truth... I installed a lift and a drop kit on my truck at the same time. I'm a pioneer.

GmtGmt 07-21-2011 02:17 PM

Re: yeeha it moves, and does it have to be lowered to be cool???

personaly i hate lowered trucks, im a sucker for stock hight and lifted trucks but only to a certin point where they stop being pratical

just like these 2 the ford useless for anything and the hardbody is just not a truck anymore for me

http://image.truckinweb.com/f/opinio...red-trucks.jpg

but build your ride like you want it not what we want it to look like

i love conversion trucks with funky 80s and 90s paint job Fiberglass addons and alloy dee zee running boards. how many here like those? not a single one but that dosent stop me from building what i want

So no it dont have to be lowered to be cool :sumo:

STOCKISH 07-21-2011 03:56 PM

Re: yeeha it moves, and does it have to be lowered to be cool???

I agree, the Ford is useless like that(practically) and the Hardbody was never a "truck" to me anyway. By the way, lifted Jeeps kick ass too! i just sold my YJ Fuel injected 327, sm465/205, Dana 60/70, 42" Pitbull Rockers, etc, etc. Will build another one when I finish my Cummins Chevy crew cab!

Re: yeeha it moves, and does it have to be lowered to be cool???

OT, but.... I'd love to do a mid 70's Jeep w/a 5.3/5spd for a DD. That minimal weight & the efficiency of the LS motor should net some decent mpg's as long as you didn't go crazy w/the tire OD/gearing.

Heres the catch.....if you do a static drop, there will allways be someone dropped lower or bagged...allways.....if you do a lift kit, there will allways be someone lifted higher...allways....but stock height is allways stock height

does that make sense?...lol

how does slamming a truck make it a rice burner? and why does slamming a truck mean its cant be used as a truck? does every truck need to be offroad? cant I load my bed with stuff and haul it around on streets? I have had my truck bed completely filled, and my truck also lays frame, and it caused absolutely no issues at all. in fact, I could argue with all the frame modifications I have made, and the addition of a rack and pinion, my truck is stronger and drives better and handles better than a stock truck. I have seen subarus that handle offroad better than a lifted truck.

I would appreciated it if you wouldn't put words in my mouth. I never said offroad or lifted and again this is what i think... don't take it so seriously i never said it caused issues i think you missed the whole point of my post. I like my trucks stock... but i said do whatever you want to yours so calm down.

and for anyone else who wants to disagree with me... but whats the point of a message board if you can't voice your opinion...

Same difference. A person reading or listening to you doesn't need you to explain to him/her that you are speaking from a personal stand point/point of view when you just used the word "I" .....even a stupid one with a lowered truck ;)

If you like a stock or lifted truck, more power to ya. But please be civil and respect others style and especially their intellect.
