Started Repairing Floor Pans + Some
5 Attachment(s)
Ok so I got my new angle grinder yesterday and this morning I jumped right too it! i installed my new diamond cutting blade and started cutting out the rusty floor pan, grinding it down, and test fitting...I am actually waiting on new pan support beams so I cant install it yet but I got a good amount done. After all the cutting and grinding I decided to remove the kenwood Cassette deck and replace it with a JVC cd player I had running around. I also removed the speaker amp and rewired the whole sub/speaker system...Enjoy the pics :)

Re: Started Repairing Floor Pans + Some
Your pictures scare me. How did you get that much rust in Nashville? It must be a rust belt import.
|
Re: Started Repairing Floor Pans + Some
WHy do the pics scare you??
I dont know but the guy got it from his cousin in MO....Its not too bad..The frame is solid...Floor pan and support need to replaced and there a little more rust in the rocker panels but mostly is all good... |
Re: Started Repairing Floor Pans + Some
My K10 is from MO too and it has just as much rust... except mine also has it along the inner rocker panels.

Re: Started Repairing Floor Pans + Some

Re: Started Repairing Floor Pans + Some
That's typical for one of these.
Here is a pic of what is considered a good cab in New Hampshire. http://www.suitorsgarage.com/jsuitor/cuttingfloor1.jpg |
Re: Started Repairing Floor Pans + Some
I got a hole like that on my driver's side..
|
Re: Started Repairing Floor Pans + Some
Yeah, the inner rocker and out rocker has some holes in it but i grinded the inside and it still has a lot of good metal...So before I put everything in place Im going to put some rust proofing stuff on it all
|

Re: Started Repairing Floor Pans + Some
wondering if it would be worth bringing a cali truck back east to sell, I feel for you all trying to fix rust like that.
|
Re: Started Repairing Floor Pans + Some
My truck was brought in from Cali, the only rust it had was a coin sized hole at the bottom of the rear fender. If the PO had bothered to straighten the fender out after hitting somthing with it it would not have had any rust.
I have restored a feve of cars that looked like what Jranger is up against now, and man am I glad that I got my self a rust free truck this time. Good luck with your project Jranger, it will be a nice truck when itīs done |

Re: Started Repairing Floor Pans + Some
WOW, mine is really not that bad.....Its just the floor pan and floor pan support thats the main problem...Body of the truck is pretty solid and no dents so :)

Well the supports are a pain in the butt! Couldnt undo the bolt so i had to notch the supports to go around them....Everything is secured with self taping screws for now until i get my buddy to weld them in...
|
Re: Started Repairing Floor Pans + Some
Also doing this made me realize my rockers are shot....Order new ones
|
Re: Started Repairing Floor Pans + Some
JRanger you should really take the time to get those body mount nuts out. Then when your buddy welds everything together he can weld something new in there. If you every have to change that body mount you will have to cut your new floor up and work down in a the hole that you made. As hard as it seems now it will be worth it down the road.
Also don't forget to put the support plate back on top of the supports. It holds the supports together instead of just relying on your new floor pan to do it. You can make one easy. Here are the steps I used. All blasted up http://www.suitorsgarage.com/jsuitor...rtsblasted.jpg Painted with rust-shield http://www.suitorsgarage.com/jsuitor...rtspainted.jpg New plate made ready to spot weld in http://www.suitorsgarage.com/jsuitor/supportplate.jpg Then a floor patch cut to fit the hole in the floor http://www.suitorsgarage.com/jsuitor/floorpatchcut.jpg |
Re: Started Repairing Floor Pans + Some
The more you do the more you're going to keep finding... I need all the same thing you need. Floor pan, cab corners, rocker (in and out) cab support, floor support... the list never ends...

Driver Side is ready to be welded. FIxed all the little holes today, made sure everything was fitted right, and covered bare metal with Weld-Thru Primer
|
Re: Started Repairing Floor Pans + Some
looking good itīs coming together, but is that a hole in your rightside cab corner?
|
Re: Started Repairing Floor Pans + Some
If your referring to the top pic Yes...but in the 2nd pic you see only a black line where I put a piece in there...BUt is your referring to the black spot in the lower right of the second pic its just missing the door rubber right there

I am so glad that my northeast truck has somehow survived with minor cab corner rust thru. It still has some of the original frame paint on it!

If your talking about the floor panel I ordered it directly from Tabco for $50 shipped...You can also order them from JCwhitley but sometimes they are out of stock.... They are awesome panels! |
Re: Started Repairing Floor Pans + Some
Im glad you have lots of pics of your floorpan repair..........gotta do that next
:) good work! |
Re: Started Repairing Floor Pans + Some
haha, yeah it would of been easier if it wasn't for the rocker panels too...Im not exactly doing a great job but for a first time not bad. Im actually taking the truck to have it all welded in this weekend..Just be careful when cutting beyond the cab frame on the drivers side...I caught the speedo cable a little and ripped some of the rubber off...They are easy to replace but better if you didn't have to lol
