71 GMC 1-ton 4X4 build
posted some pics and story in regular burb forum but figured I shoud start a build thread. Starting with a 71 GMC that had a tbi injected 454 w/t400 and 205 case. Has dana60 front and 14b ff rear. Starting to tear into the rust and buying parts as I go. I will update as I go. Slow but steady.

Re: 71 GMC 1-ton 4X4 build
Besides the known rust in the rear quarters this was the only hidden rust once the lower trim was removed.

Re: 71 GMC 1-ton 4X4 build
Thanx...haven't updated or posted pics in awhile. Hopefully more pics on Weds when I'm off work. Most rust repair should be done. Also picked up a new motor for it.

Re: 71 GMC 1-ton 4X4 build
Learn something new everyday on here. I don't know anything about it. It's at a shop here in town called Reno Speedworks, a hot rod shop.

Re: 71 GMC 1-ton 4X4 build
That repair looks great! Nice job!
|
Re: 71 GMC 1-ton 4X4 build
looking good and I like your seats...
will be nice to see them in the rig...oh and I hate rust! |
Re: 71 GMC 1-ton 4X4 build
Thanx for the comments. The seats will be nice as I don't have to figure out seat belt mounts for shoulder belts. Just need to find a matching set for the front, going to have 2 rows of those buckets with the center console seat.
|
Re: 71 GMC 1-ton 4X4 build
That'll be nice! Is it hard to come across those GM seats? I know it's pretty hard to find newer dodge and ford seats like that.
|
Re: 71 GMC 1-ton 4X4 build
The seats are fairly easy to find within a 150 mile radius. The problem is that they were offered in 3 colors in cloth and 2 in leather so finding the same combo is a waiting game. Just waiting for another set like those to show up for sale.

Re: 71 GMC 1-ton 4X4 build
its looking great!
what color are you powdercoating the handles and trim? and what are you using to re attach your upper trim rail? |
Re: 71 GMC 1-ton 4X4 build
When finished the burb is going to be white so all the handles, trim and mirrors are going to be black. Not going to replace lower trim, going to line-x the rockers. I am going to check out a fastener store in town for the clips. They show some in their catalog. The other option might be the clips for truck tailgate upper trim, it appears narrow and the clips are available from different vendors. Btw, I'm also having the upper door panels trim pieces powder coated black. My goal is to not have any chrome on the burb. The grille will be the tough part but having the headlight buckets coated in black also. Hope to have all parts back next Friday and will post pics.

Re: 71 GMC 1-ton 4X4 build
matte wheels are sweet
|
Re: 71 GMC 1-ton 4X4 build
Thanx guys....I want to drop the motor in and start driving but really should clean, paint and detail the engine compartment while the motor is out. If I don't do it now it might never get done. I really like the wheels and best thing is is that they were inexpensive for a 17" 8 lug wheel.

Re: 71 GMC 1-ton 4X4 build
So the metal/rust project is done and now moved the burb to a different area to start the tear down for cleaning, paint and engine install.
http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/l...-17-35_677.jpg Got a little work done today...front end removed..time to start the clean up and paint of engine compartment. http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/l...-07-19_945.jpg http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/l...-07-02_417.jpg |
Re: 71 GMC 1-ton 4X4 build
Where did you buy your patch panels for the rear quarters and the area in front of the rear wheel well? Curious about quality and price. Thanks in advance.
