Today a pretty decent ( for buying crusher junk ) came ascross the scales, Blue and white with chrome, still had the radio delete plate. It has the bolt in low hump I need for my truck. It has the key in ignition, one in the glove box... I checked and they work the door lock too. There was also a 58 1/2 and an earlier 2 ton . We buy around 1/2 million dollars a month in scrap metal, so we get some pretty decent stuff for crushers sometimes.

I'm just going to cry now, sniff. That's so sad.

If the moldings are not to bad I'd use them on my Airstream project.

Fawn Firewall

Finally a grill with both headlight bezels.

Wonder if the vertical window guide is intact in the drivers door?

Just think of all of them that go to the crusher that no one pulls anything off of..... those that go straight into the crusher! I at least pull all the goodies before they become flat and off to China.

I am going to see if the Boss will save all of the old stuff and start an old U-pull-it type yard.

I see some old stuff, from the 40's and 50's at scrape yard. Amazing, guess people are in hurry to get their money or don't think the stuff is worth any thing.

Re: 63 C10 today ascross the scales

That is sad. I saw something similar today. sigshooter, are you able to bring any onto the old truck market? I am trying to with the help of a friend who runs a crusher. The high scrap price is a blessing and a curse. People are selling their old trucks, but you can't buy any $200.00 trucks now.

Re: 63 C10 today ascross the scales

We are so busy doing scrap we quit parts some time back..... We dont have time to pull, box, and ship..... That is why I am thinking a u pull it yard for older vehicles

MisterC 01-24-2012 11:42 PM

Re: 63 C10 today ascross the scales

I think that's a great idea, Sig. If you can find some bare land to store them and have the ability to get ahold of these for a reasonable price, you could make a decent profit just by parting them all out on the parts board here.

This just proves the old adage, "One man's junk is another man's treasure"

Usually not since they are headed for the crusher, Person selling it just signs a bill of sale stating the own it. Oklahoma law only requires a title if it is 10 years old or newer, otherwise just a bill of sale is required.

Seems that all you crush is classic chevy trucks !!! I too have worked the same deal and sometimes there is just not room or time to get all the good stuff off , especially when it is 260 a ton (at least it is here)..........

Please don’t stop posting photos. Although it’s somewhere between disappointing and depressing to see all this vintage tin on the way to getting squashed, it’s also uplifting to realize there is apparently a generous supply of decent stuff still out there to be discovered.

Looking at all the stuff in that truck reminds me of a time back in the 1980’s when vehicles like this were regularly abandoned in front of our commercial building. Every one of them was stuffed with debris well beyond capacity. Once successfully abandoned without getting caught, the refuse heap became our responsibility as far as the city was concerned. The only solution left was to have one of our forklift guys place it across the street in front of a fire hydrant. It would soon be tagged by the police and hauled off by the city.

Now that is a funny story on getting rid of unwanted vehicles.... Less than ten years ago I didn,t pay anything for old cars, just hauled them off for free...... sometimes if it was far out I would charge 25 bucks. Now we are paying $230.00 a ton and advertising in the papers, radio, billboards, on the side of vans parked around town.... funny how times have changed

No, we crush all kinds... Today I crushed several newer caddy's, a couple BMW's, a few Mercedes, a Lexus, Land Rover or Range Rover cant remember, Yukons, Tahoes...... I only post a few pics of some of the classics we get. As I stated once before we buy over a 1/2 million dollars a month in scrap so we get lots of stuff. Mostly newer stuff, but at the volume we do you are bound to come ascross the older stuff.

Yes I dont always get everything I want, but I usually control when it gets crushed so I can hold it back for a lil while anyways.

Here is a couple pics of what we call "bundles", each one contains about 4- 5 cars

I believe I have seen flat bed semis coming down I35 towards Dallas, Texas from the operation that you work for. Is that where the cars and trucks are headed?

Yeah, I think it is a shame to crush the older stuff too. I would love to get my hands on a buildable 1960-1966 chevy or GMC. I check craigslist daily and it seems that most of the ads are for show type trucks or trucks with no motor and transmission and a body needing alot of work and the seller is wanting $2000. Not much really in between the two. I would like to have one that is driveable with a little work and that I could restore as I drive it.

Well someday I hope I can.

But anyways, thank you for the pictures. It is interesting to see what comes in.

The yard near me will sell any cars that come in back to the public for $x.xx per pound. My buddy bought a small block chevy motor for $100 or so dollars a couple years back what turned out to be a Chevy 302 out of a Camaro. It was siezed up and he was running the numbers and called me and needless to say he ran an ad on craigslist for it and sold it for $3500! The guy that bought it said heck he would have given $5,000! I knew they were worth something but 5K!

Re: 63 C10 today ascross the scales

To the uninformed scrap yard owner that does that much volume, setting aside the occasional vehicle for parts salvage would seem nothing more than an inconvenient waste of time. If space was not an issue, the savvy owner would do well to hire a guy full time to strip the good stuff before sending the rest to the crusher. I'm surprised this is not more common. Maybe it is, I dunno? Sig?

Heck, on second thought, you could probably find a sicko like one of us to pull the parts and sell them on a percentage basis. That's no extra cost to the owner. Like free money.

Parts are more of a hassle to the owner, the pulling it, wrapping, and shipping... We are saving some of the better old stuff, and are trying the U Pull It approach. We have 20 acres, but between the Wrecker service and the Scrap that takes most of our time and space.

The Owner has a 68 convertible Camaro on a rotessire that hasn't had a single thing done to it in over 6 months..... We are a small yard that is doing alot of business

I live in chicago and built a building next to the pound. They crushed cars that they impounded but no one came and got. All day long they crushed every cat you could imagine. New or old didn't matter. It was unbelievable! I had a 66 corvair that got crushed that way. It got a bunch of parking tickets and they wanted more for them than the car was worth so I didn't pay. Off to the crusher! I was 18 didn't have the money or a garage!

The hood on that 63 looks decent (better than mine anyway), that would bring some cash itself. I wish you weren't so far away! Did you snag the radio delete plate and is it available?
