65 chevy stepside restoration
4 Attachment(s)
When i was 15 i purchased this 1965 c10 with a chevy 350 joined to a turbo 350. After putting disk brakes on the front i drove it for 2 years. The trucks not in bad shape but the body work is terrible and the paint job is not that great. Plus i want to make the truck black. The engine runs fine but doesn't have the get up and go that i'm looking for.:chevy: Attachment 863825

The bed of my truck had a box made of 2x4's. Looked alright but very heavy and not really original looking. Under that was a really thick sheet of painted diamond plate that had to weigh 150 lbs. After taking that out we were able to see the original wood bed. As you can see it wasnt in good shape at all. So it had to go. It wasn't that hard but made a big mess. Attachment 863841

After driving it for a little bit. It was time to take out the engine and tranny. This was my first engine removal and I was lucky to have help. First the engine was disassembled then the tranny was taken out. The engine was then taken out with not much trouble. Then we tore down the engine to find it was in pretty good shape.Attachment 863855

Welcome to the forum :D
Nice looking truck. What are your plans for the engine and trans? |
Re: 65 chevy stepside restoration
We're gonna make it a 383 stroked and possible put some vortex heads on it. Not tryin to get crazy numbers just something I can have fun in

By the way this is a great build thread with a lot of hard progress on a very nice looking truck to begin with. |
Re: 65 chevy stepside restoration
Thanks guys for subscribing to my thread. I appreciate it. The progress has been kind of slow i am on crutches from a recent acl surgery which i tore playing lacrossse. But I'm going away to UNC Charlotte to pursue a career in automotive engineering with a concentration in motorsports. I work at a car shop and my boss, wo is sorta like an uncle to me has been showing me how and what to do to make my truck perfect. I have some really good plans for my c 10 and i hope you guys enjoy it.

Re: 65 chevy stepside restoration
That engine in the pic is not a Vortec engine, It is either a LT1 or a L99. Those heads can not be used on a Gen I small block as they are designed for reverse cooling.

Re: 65 chevy stepside restoration
I've heard that you just need to weld two of the coolant passages shut so they coolant doesnt reach into the lifted valley.

Re: 65 chevy stepside restoration
OMG where can i get valve covers like that with out chevy on them
|
Re: 65 chevy stepside restoration
Not sure where to even get the ones with "chevrolet" on them. I was looking around on google i think they are normal cheapo valve covers with a custom piece on top.
