Looks good

Quite the dome on those pistons. What cubic inch are you building?

Re: My BBC couple pictures.

ya kickin domes on those pistons, what heads are you using and what compression will it end up being with the chamber size.

The camshaft his suppose to be 2800-7000 and the heads are Brodix oval port RR's. Also have the Brodix valve covers.

Thanks.

I try to do things right. Starting with this an get the truck right. I then may go to more cubes in a few years.

I ditched the steel roller cam button for a nylon easier to set clearance with it.

Re: My BBC couple pictures.

I sure would like to start on it again. But, it is 21 degrees outside an I am on call this weekend an worked half the night last night. I do not even feel like firing the heater up. So, it is going to wait I guess.

I ended up going with the M77 pump. Changed out the spring in favor of the high pressure spring. Had the M77HV pump but changed my mind on it. Still have it setting on the table in the box.

I have always used the M77 an never had a problem. "So if it's not broke don't fix it". I heard the argument on both sides. I decided to go with what I know an have always done.

Re: My BBC couple pictures.

I've used both and can only recommend the HV if you are running an oil pan with a capacity of 8+ quarts, this from experience of course.

Re: My BBC couple pictures.

Thats the thing on the Big block a little more pressure is better than the Hvolume pump and less of a power robber too.

That is what I was thinking too. But, I can see it both ways. I just went with what I have always done.

Re: My BBC couple pictures.

I have been kicking my self the last few months for not going with a std pump. I get little annoying leaks. Pushing 60psi when cold and around 45-50 when warm. I may replace mine soon.

I found that out the hard way too.

If I ever get my lazy butt started again. I am going to put the oil pan on.

I also have a M77 pump for my 496. The spring that you installed, is that the optional one that comes with the pump? I know SBC's better than the BBC's. I remembered that you don't want a HV oil pump in them either.

Blue Rat 03-14-2012 06:44 AM

Re: My BBC couple pictures.

Yes that's the one I installed. That's the other the extra spring that comes with the M77 pump it's the high pressure spring.

What kind of pressure do you normally get out of it?

mud.man.rj 03-14-2012 04:24 PM

Re: My BBC couple pictures.

Thats funny I always use the M77 pump and only had the extra spring come with the small block pump not the Big block pump, the spring doesn't change volume though only adds some pressure which is alright on the BB. My BB idles at about 18psi operating temp with the M77 stock spring.

I figure between 25-30 psi at idle an 65-80 on the other end with the HP spring. Of course it also depends on clearances.

Was going to work on it this evening but worked over some an just did not have it in me when I got home.

Re: My BBC couple pictures.

Did everyone see that nice looking timing cover? Well, it is coming off this coming week it will not match up with the Milidon oil pan. Then it is going back where it came from. Have a Milidon cover on the way. Should be here Tuesday or Wednesday this coming week.

By the way it is not a name brand cover. Told him I would try it.

Blue Rat 03-25-2012 02:15 PM

Re: My BBC couple pictures.

Well got the new cover in an it fits perfect. But, going to have to buy a another cam button. I have bought my last off brand timing cover. No pictures, but should have some middle of week or this coming weekend. I went to the round track racing last night for the first time in 15 years an it kind of got me stirred a little.

Blue Rat 03-27-2012 06:33 PM

Re: My BBC couple pictures.

Well, could not find a cam button close to home. So, going to make a trip to the Speed Shop saturday an pick up one. He did not have any either. He said he would have some by this weekend.

Blue Rat 04-01-2012 09:04 PM

Re: My BBC couple pictures.

Well my camshaft end play is set. Put the timing cover on.

Man....should have went with the Cloyes quick button timing chain cover. Those things rule! I had my roller endplay set and final in about 7 minutes.

You are not going to believe this but was thinking about what you did the whole time. Just did not want to spring for that money. But it is done now. Never got time to work on it today. May work on it tomorrow after easter stuff is finished.

As long as it's done and done right, stock chrome looks just fine!

That is the Milidon cover to match that pan. It seems a lot thicker an more heavy duty than the stock cover that I recall an it has the wear plate. It was actually close. Did not need a lot of work.
