Old Truck - FREE Wallpaper

Friends, I figured someone might appreciate this photo of an old truck I came upon while on a hike. Anyone know what year?.

You may use it as desktop wallpaper at no charge.

thanks!

Is an 80 or down, fyi. At least that is what the front clip is, or what's left of it.

Re: Old Truck - FREE Wallpaper

Cool picture! Definitely a 73-80 front clip though

Re: Old Truck - FREE Wallpaper

good info. i had originally guessed it was a '78 based on pics on the web i found. I should've checked the VIN, lol.

I got under it and saw that the rear leaf springs are held together with baling wire...might shed some light on how it went off the road and came to rest at the bottom of this ravine.

Yep - not much left to go by; definitely '73 - 80.

The only other refinement I could make would be that it has roof drip rails, which would rule out '73 (and perhaps '74, depending on when they were introduced).

Beautiful pic, btw.

Thanks for the awesome pic and welcome to the forum mikeSF. Just so you know, to you have to be a site supporter to promote your business, so I edited your post.

We know its not a 73 due to the drip rails. I'm going to say its not a 78 because it doesn't have the pin at the firewall to prevent the hood from kicking back on impact.

Anyone else?

Well the model looks like a custom de luxe
74 was the year when they started putting those plastic inserts on the door handles
And i think this truck has those plastic inserts on the door handle
N2TRUX
and i believe N2TRUX is right about it being before 78

Yep. Good point. I looked right at it, but it didn't register because I was trying to do the passenger side/driver's side tank flip flop in my head (early years single tank was passenger side, but this one could have had dual tanks).

Since it appears to have a outside hood release and cable release was introduced in 77, Along with the drip rails as mentioned I'd say it's a 74-75 or 76....

Kool Pic !

It isn't 73/74, look at the reveals below the rear window on the inside of the cab..the early models were clean and smooth.

It was intro'ed in 77 but it was an option. I thought that was a sign too till I thought about it.

wow, great responses, thanks everyone!

OK, thanks to the expert sleuthing, we've narrowed this to '76-'78. Here is a night shot I took using colored flash gels, but it is a similar angle and dark, so not sure if any further details will be revealed:

it is a high dynamic range photo (HDR). I shot 3 exposures, dark, normal, and light, and then used software to blend them together to bring up all the shadows which wouldve been black. thus, it takes on a surreal look.

i meant to say ridge, not ravine. The road is 50 ft above this point, out of camera view to the right. This truck missed the turn, went off the road and then came to rest at the bottom. I remember first seeing it about 8-10 yrs ago and it looked pretty fresh at the time (with tire marks all the way down the hill). now, it's been stripped by vandals and slowly decaying into the earth.

I'm with Cory. My 78 is a single tank and it's on the passenger side, not only that but it isn't the fuel door, its the exposed round fuel cap. So, I'm going with 79-80 as well.

And Mike thanks for the great pic! What are you shooting with?

it's a Pentax K5 (crop sensor) DSLR with a 15mm prime lens. The lens renders the sun as a 14-pt star with those long rays.

Re: Old Truck - FREE Wallpaper

In the second pic, the shiny spot below the door striker pin wouldn't be the VIN plate would it? IF it is, then it isn't 79-80.

I'm going with 76. Vin tag does it for me

It seems this truck is a hodge-podge mix of everything from 73-80.

Re: Old Truck - FREE Wallpaper

you guys are the experts on the differences from year to year, but my limited knowledge tells me its a 76 or early 77. my best guess would be 76.

awsome shots though.

Re: Old Truck - FREE Wallpaper

:aaahhh chooo: '76, VIN tag :sniffle:

mikeSF 05-25-2012 11:19 AM

Re: Old Truck - FREE Wallpaper

here's a tighter shot showing the door itself, i don't have one that shows the door frame and striker pin any better than the last one but that does indeed appear to be a VIN tag partially removed.

Re: Old Truck - FREE Wallpaper

Take note of the large lower grille molding.

The sticker in the door jamb can be anything. Dealerships put all sorts of stickers in for various reasons. The sticker in question really does not look large enough to be a metal VIN tag.

But again, the truck is how old? Could be a Frankenstein, we all know there are just a few of those on the road. Hell I have one in my garage.

Just go to youtube and listen to Johnny Cash sing about it in One Piece at a Time.
