'77 c10 "charlene" bagged on billets
4 Attachment(s)
Ok so ive been snooping around on this sight for 2 years now and didnt want to post my build thread til i had something a little worthy for criticizing.
Ive had this truck for a few years now, it was my daily until i started fixing things that werent broke and then i totally lost interest for almost 2 years. Wanted a street and strip but now i think i know what direction im headed for. I started my "re" build around january and im right smack in the middle of it. Its a 77 swb with a 383 stroker aluminum heads, muth a thumper cam, hooker shortys, 3" exhaust blah blah blah, some porterbuilt goodies, and sitting on 22/24 centerline smoothies with a healthy set of tires. Ill start with where i am with the truck right now and then ill post some old pics of the build later. |
Re: '77 c10 "charlene" bagged on billets
Wow nice! Your unfinished look is sort of the look I want finished. Is it a Dropmember up front?

Re: '77 c10 "charlene" bagged on billets
No....womp, i dont have the drop member yet, just dhp tubular uppers and lower a arms and drop sindles..
And yes i will eventually paint it satin red with some stress scuff sanding on the corners to give it a little worn look but not a fake patina, finishing off with a nice pin stripe badge on the hood |
Re: '77 c10 "charlene" bagged on billets
Nice... I can't really tell from the pic but are you laying frame or crossmember? It looks pretty low for it not to be z'd or have a Dropmember.

Re: '77 c10 "charlene" bagged on billets
With the 22s up front its about 1/2 an in. From laying the a arm bolts.
Im not sure if i want to lay frame, at first i was crazy about heading in that direction but its not practical for me in that truck. I have an 03 silverado that def lays a smooth flat frame on 22s so i can say i know what its like. But who knows maybe that drop member will come sooner than later. |

The only pic i took of the drive shaft bridge. But it is just a nice piece of sheet metal i had bent at 90 degrees on both sides. Welded it up and seeled it off, then glued the carpet back on...

My choice of cap i decided to go with. Mr n2billet tells me they might be from a chevy luv.

2 WEEKS AGO I DID THE EXHUAST. POWDERCOATED MY SHORTY HOOKER HEADERS. WELDED UP THE COLLECTORS, 3" PIPE BENDS I SALVAGED OUT OF A MUFFLER BIN FOR FIFTEEN DOLLAS. AND CONNECTED IT ALL UP TO MY 3" SUPER COMP HOOKER MUFFLERS. ALL THAT IS FINISHED OFF WITH SOME FLOWMASTER TURN DOWNS RIGHT AFTER THE CAB-O. IT SHOULD WAKE UP THE NEIGHBORS EVERY MORNING. BUT I GUESS IF YOUR NOT PISSING SOMEONE OFF YOU AINT DOING IT RIGHT....SO JESSE JAMES SAYS:devil:

This past weekends work consisted of adding the ol' beer bottle opener, welding on the shock mounts, bag mounts, painting them, bolting on the bed, air tank, and some other stuff

Last night i finally figured out how to connect the brake line from the frame, to the rear end. I drilled out a 5/16 fitting to a 1/4 to put on the hard line. Then flared, connected to the female which has a 4 an male on the other side. That connects to a braided steel line which finally connects to the stock new rubber line on the pumnkin.
Braided stainless steel line lets the rear end travel up and down freely. |

Craigslist find! Set of 20'' dodge steelies drilled for a 5x5 bolt pattern. Not sure if itll work. I have some concerns, ive seen the rotors drilled out and rear bolt pattern changers to make em fit.
But well see, ill powdercoat em metallic silver and drill holes for the center caps. These will be for spares or when i get bored of the smoothies some saturday night |
Re: '77 c10 "charlene" bagged on billets
I would think you would have to have a tapered seat in those "new drilled" holes,... for the lugnut to tighten and seat correctly.
Maybe a set of 5x5.5 to 5x5 adapters would be a safer answer. (I know that won't allow you to run the truck ralley wheel center cap) |
Re: '77 c10 "charlene" bagged on billets
Makes sense. Maybe ill just order some adapters. Man i hate being safe though..
|
Re: '77 c10 "charlene" bagged on billets
I'd set them on your truck.
These wheels have a ton of backspacing. You might need the adapters to push them out a little, anyway. |
Re: '77 c10 "charlene" bagged on billets
Powdercoat the center of your smoothies silver, and bolt on the ralley wheel center cap to them.
