My 67 C10
And so it begins.......
I found this truck online and it was only a couple of hours away. The previous owner lost interest and decided to sell it. After a few conversations and texts I was the new owner. http://i947.photobucket.com/albums/a...C903EE15B4.jpg The cab is very solid. It has new rockers installed but everything else is solid and will remain.... I hope. http://i947.photobucket.com/albums/a...C93E37B3B6.jpg It had a wood floor bed but it was pretty rough and I wanted a steel floor. I picked up another truck for this bed and gave the truck to my Dad. Now we have a couple of Father and Son projects! http://i947.photobucket.com/albums/a...C965109F8C.jpg I disassembled the bed. It was a little rougher than I expected it to be but too bad. http://i947.photobucket.com/albums/a...C97AE43D2C.jpg http://i947.photobucket.com/albums/a...C9825C4DED.jpg http://i947.photobucket.com/albums/a...C988DB96B4.jpg After a little grinding and welding it doesn't look too bad! http://i947.photobucket.com/albums/a...C991130FAA.jpg Coated the bottom side with Rust Encapsulator. It should last another 45 years!! |
Re: My 67 C10

Re: My 67 C10
I made a little more progress today.
http://i947.photobucket.com/albums/a...D1BA6BBA-1.jpg My Dad and I got the cab and front end off of the frame today. http://i947.photobucket.com/albums/a...07DD74184D.jpg I used 4 Harbor Freight furniture dollies to roll it around the garage. http://i947.photobucket.com/albums/a...08521A766D.jpg It's time to clean up the frame and order the suspension and brake parts. |
Re: My 67 C10
I had some presents when I got home today. The big brown truck dropped off my new rear fenders, rear roll pan and bed front panel. I should get to put my bed back together tomorrow. I ordered stake hole filler plates, gas filler and firewall fillers from Infanti machine. I should have those early next week.

Re: My 67 C10
I didn't make much progress today but I did get a little assistance from my son Ethan.
http://i947.photobucket.com/albums/a...34BFB2C09D.jpg http://i947.photobucket.com/albums/a...34B3CAEA96.jpg http://i947.photobucket.com/albums/a...34CFBBA04C.jpg I applied rust converter to the inside of the bed sides and the hard to reach corners. I will coat them with rust encapsulator next and reassemble the bed. |
Re: My 67 C10
Removed the windshield and back glass today. I have some more rust repair around them and the drip rail but not too bad. I also flipped the cab up on it's back to inspect the underside. It is not too bad. The cab supports need a little attention.

Re: My 67 C10
I got my bed put back together. The wheel wells and front panel were too far gone so I replaced them with new metal. I am going to coat the inside with a liner after the truck is painted.

Re: My 67 C10
I picked up a low mileage 5.3/4L60E combo for my truck.
http://i947.photobucket.com/albums/a...76CE390D27.jpg I also received my CPP components. In the pile is a 4.5/6 drop, front and rear swap bars, LS motor mounts and trans crossmember. http://i947.photobucket.com/albums/a...7AE8365535.jpg |
Re: My 67 C10

Re: My 67 C10
I got the frame disassembled and ready for clean up. It will get a coating of rust encapsulator and satin black paint.
http://i947.photobucket.com/albums/a...7700AF7421.jpg I had planned on getting this done today but the rear end fell and the chunck landed on my foot. That completed my activities for the day. Will find out if it is broken tomorrow! |
Re: My 67 C10
Good news, my foot is not broken but it is really bruised and swollen. Doctor said it will take a couple weeks for the swelling to go down. I should be back grinding on my frame by the weekend.

Re: My 67 C10
Glad the foot isn't broken. I had hell trying to get my trailing arms free of the rear axle. hopefully you have better luck.
|
Re: My 67 C10
ouch I've had my motor and trans roll and rip into my thigh probably one of the worst feelings Ive ever had let alone the oh S*** factor gret progress let the foot heal up though or else everything will be a stand still

Re: My 67 C10
Got my new 3.3 lock to lock steering box painted and mounted. I got it from the local parts store for $126.
http://i947.photobucket.com/albums/a...71BC2CFB01.jpg Also installed the lower ball joints. Received the wrong tie rod in the correct box. Should have the correct one in the morning. Still waiting on cross shafts. I could have the front end assembled if I didn't insist on Moog parts. |
Re: My 67 C10
Following this build very closely. I'm doing a very similar build, just lagging a couple of months behind you. That truck looks like it was in pretty good condition to start with!
|
Re: My 67 C10
I got to meet bkkpool today, real cool dude. Good luck on your build. Let me know if you need anything.
|
Re: My 67 C10
Wow great start! Hope the foot feels better.

Re: My 67 C10
What year is your power steering box for?
Thanks-Mika |
Re: My 67 C10
Jablack, I enjoyed talking with you about our trucks today.

Re: My 67 C10
The steering box is a 7501 with 3.3 turns lock to lock which is for 68-75 I think. PM me and I will give you the exact details. I don't want to promote nonvendors but I'm on a budget and I know others are as we'll.

Re: My 67 C10
I would appreciate all the information you can give me since this is my first truck venture. It is a bone stock 68 step side with a 307 and 3 on the tree, nothing else. I would like to make it easier for my wife to drive. I had a 69 impala with a 327 and 3 on the tree also and it was a bear for her to drive. She is a little older with knee problems and I know she would like to drive the truck. Don't repeat the older part.

Re: My 67 C10
I rebuilt my rearend will new bearings, races and seals. I cleaned up the housing and painted it satin black. I also installed new brakes and drums.
http://i947.photobucket.com/albums/a...E6327F5E04.jpg I got the rearend installed along with my 5" drop spring, 1" blocks, new shocks, double adjustable panhard bar. http://i947.photobucket.com/albums/a...1A3EB40972.jpg Now if my upper control arm shafts and ball joints would arrive I will have a roller once again. |
Re: My 67 C10
Compared to what it looked like before, that rear end looks great. You do good work man.
|
Re: My 67 C10
Its nice dealing with clean parts everything just seems to go so much smoother durring reassembly.
Now if you ever need to take anything apart again it wont be near the ordeal it was the first time around. Yours was clean compared to most though, most 1967 pickups have 46 years worth of rust on them. Good job on the frame and suspension, I am looking forward to the rest of the build. |
Re: My 67 C10
I like the satin black better than the gloss black I used.
|
Re: My 67 C10
Real clean frame, looks great! I am tuned in
|
Re: My 67 C10
On the frame did you....
1. mechanically strip the rust and grime off to bare metal then prime and paint or 2. just get the scale off and use eastwoods rust converter, prime and paint Nevermind jsut went back to see you have no rust!!! Mine is heavily rusted in some places. Also on the rearend is that the same rust encapsulator or actual satin black paint? Looking very good. Nice work. |
Re: My 67 C10
Going to be doing the same to my truck this weeken out with the old in with another one I'm in the cleaning process right now yours turned out really nice great job

Re: My 67 C10
My frame and rear end had lots of rust. The previous owner painted over everything including dirt! I cleaned it up but not completely stripped them. I then coated with rust encapsulate and painted satin black. I spent ALOT of time cleaning. Sandblasting would be the best way but I'm trying to save money and do most of the labor myself.
