steel wheels and dog dish caps

I'm looking for some pics of 73-87's with steel wheels and dog dish caps. I'm thinking of doing this on my crew cab so post what you have.
thanks, jason

Some of you guys are really good at picking out wheels that go with the truck. The white wheels matches the white on those trucks.

I don't know if you have a 3/4 ton or a 1/2 ton, but here is the 16 inch steel wheel with stock hubcaps.

Don't forget the base model painted version. THese are rare in the 73 thru 78 "loaded" era, but look very sharp and "truck looking" when they are clean.

The stock 8 lug wheels for single rear wheel trucks are 6.5 inches wide.
I have factory sized 235/85/16 tires. BFG All-terrain KO

Some dodge wheels of similar vintage are 6 inches wide.

I have one of those on the wall in the man cave, only blue bowtie. Love the dog dish caps.

Re: steel wheels and dog dish caps

Isn't there a company in CA that makes custom sizes of steel wheels? My K5 came with what I think are DIO wide steelies. I'd like to upgrade the rear to a 14 bolt which means 8 lug, but I like the wider white steel look. I *believe* there were OEM wide 8's too, but are very hard to find, no?

Re: steel wheels and dog dish caps

I used to have a set of wide 8 lug steelies but sold that truck a long time ago. There are several companies that will widen or build custom width wheels that dog dish caps will fit. Stockton wheel is the only one that comes to mind if they are still in business.

Stock wheels which I powder coated and a set of junky 5 dollar swap meet hubcaps.

http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/k...f284669595.jpg

The hubcaps are real beat but for a five spot I felt like I could make them work for a while. I stripped the factory clear coat off the hubcaps which considerably helped their appearance. You can see a bit of before and after in these pics.

And in case anyone notices, the caps started out with gold bow ties but when I stripped them down, they were painted blue beneath the gold from the factory.

They came out looking pretty nice. What did you use to clean them up.

I used Methylene Chloride to strip the clear coat off, but that's not something most folks have around their shop. A good strong paint stripper will do the same thing, just not as fast, and is more available.

The wheels were a basic sandblast and white powder coat.
