1/2dozen Burban
Like most, I'm addicted to craigslist and 60-66 chevy trucks of all types but around Iowa its pretty hard to find a decent body to start with. Each day I check the 4 state area and usually find nothing. Christmas Eve I was spending with the family and decided to scope it out and wouldn't you know 5 minutes prior a 66 suburban was posted, so I immediately send email then called but no answer. It was a rough night of sleep until the next morning a fella called me up North in MN and gave me the run down on the burb. Has original 292 inline upgraded to HEI with 45k miles on it, seats were covered up with original plastic until 4 years ago. Everything is pretty damn solid, I couldn't believe it. He told me he would meet me half way and if I didn't want it thats fine. Well to make a long story short I own it!
Plans for it is drive it for now when the roads are clean, I sold my (newer) home and moved across the street. Why? So I can build a bigger garage so I can finally have room to build stuff again. Here are the pics! http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f1...ps8ad39142.jpg http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f1...227_112639.jpg http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f1...ps55b08685.jpg http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f1...pse7fbfb06.jpg http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f1...227_112714.jpg http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f1...227_112726.jpg http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f1...227_112821.jpg http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f1...pseb02b6b1.jpg http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f1...227_112946.jpg |
Re: 1/2dozen Burban
Excellent score! It looks quite solid and original. Apparently somebody was a big fan of side marker lights, eh? Maybe could've fit a couple more on there if they tried. Have fun.

Re: 1/2dozen Burban

Re: 1/2dozen Burban
Took another look at your Suburban and noticed the custom comfort seat and two tone paint on the exterior (not interior), and no chrome or side trim. This goes to show you could get them anyway you wanted, with any combination of options. Like 60-66 asked, do you have the SPID (options) sticker on the glove box?

Re: 1/2dozen Burban
yeah here is a picture of the sticker, it looks like blood on it, lol
http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f1...228_095456.jpg maybe I am wrong but this setup for PCV must be hard to come by, I can't find any info on it. I have owned a few of these trucks and none of them had this setup. http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f1...227_113119.jpg http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f1...228_112034.jpg |

air cleaner housing

Re: 1/2dozen Burban
The K46 that's on your glove box door states K46 for the heavy duty air cleaner option. The part number off the air cleaner you posted shows up to be 64-66 10-30 Heavy Duty air cleaner, that's right out of the Chevrolet parts books. This air cleaner was also used on the 40-60 Series trucks according to the Chevrolet parts books. That's interesting, Never have I seen that air cleaner on a 1/2 ton anything. I have a similar air cleaner that runs the duct like yours on the firewall but I've never seen it in place. Thought it was always BIG truck stuff. Kinda reminds me of Chevrolets cowl plenum air cleaners from 63-69 on 409s and 427s. Guess it was a way of getting cold fresh air to the engine on these trucks..http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...k/IMG_1528.jpg

Re: 1/2dozen Burban
Weird! ... or unusual, at least. I've never seen that kind of H.D. air cleaner set up either. Is that a cowl vent intake?... and then a two-stage air cleaner (minus the hoses), with the first being an oil bath unit? EDIT: Silencer? ..as shown in 60-66's post? 2nd EDIT: I see the pre-cleaner now..duh.
Paint code on the SPID says 525 so it came all saddle from the factory. Two tone saddle/white would've been 555. |
Re: 1/2dozen Burban
Yes and K62 for custom comfort for the deluxe seats but no custom trim option.

Re: 1/2dozen Burban
Does your truck show any signs of having a smog pump on it ?

Re: 1/2dozen Burban
Very cool
Eliminate the pre-cleaner and just run from air cleaner to cowl duct. voila.. early factory cowl induction.... even though you can't see it when the hoods closed,LOL Along with the dealer 2 tone,I wonder if they also did the 20 gal fuel tank?(written on the SPID). T |

Re: 1/2dozen Burban
Well it has been awhile since I've posted. Took some time but I was able to complete the garage with some help from my Dad. It was built to the max size the city will allow, which isn't big enough. Anyway, it's time to bag a suburban! Plans are to lay out using full level 3 porterbuilt drop members, 22 inch transport wheels with stock hub caps, having the 292 freshened up and 700r4. Here are some pictures and I'll be posting more as I go.
Full pic of shop http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f1...psuwxisyu5.jpg At this point I was slowly raising the body to make sure everything was clear http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f1...pszgvs5emf.jpg Body is off and frame rolled back http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f1...psyfpcre0g.jpg Frame rolled back ready for fill dismantle http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f1...psqw4kiinh.jpg Tucking the 22s purchased from Alexander Speed. Lift was lowered as far as the lift arms would let me http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f1...ps2zqcbp0v.jpg 5 total wanted a spare http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f1...psjzuroj24.jpg Took frame down to the rails then power washed using a hotsy. Currently waiting on porterbuilt and in the meantime I'll coat the frame and clean up the mess I've made over the past few days. http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f1...psbf2lrw7r.jpghttp://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f1...psgcxjpiv7.jpg |
Re: 1/2dozen Burban
Nice suburban and shop!
Here in MI in most areas a garage cannot exceed the sq. ft. of the house. |
Re: 1/2dozen Burban
It's gonna be awesome !

What's the plans for the 292? Maybe making it a street engine? Did it with mine. Great journey thus far. Nice project! :chevy:
|
Re: 1/2dozen Burban
I'm more of the cruising type. Plans are to freshen it up with new gaskets, valve seats and rings then paint it stock color. If it needs more when opened up then I'll go from there. It only has 48k on it and for the 3k I've driven it seems to get around pretty good. Just tired of the small seepage of oil making it all dirty! Your 292 looks great! What all have you done to it?
|
Re: 1/2dozen Burban
A ton. lol Fully custom rebuild.
Lump port head...1.94 intake 1.60 exhaust valves. Roller rockers. Bigger valve springs, Bored .040 over with custom ross pistons, comp cam, fully balanced, zero decked. all the good stuff. lol :chevy: |
Re: 1/2dozen Burban
Sounds like money! 4k or more? 350-400 hp?
