Gauging Interest- Aluminum Spicer Lockout Dials

This would be for 3/4 tons big hub Dana 44 only at this point and blue in color. I'm thinking about making several sets. Please post responses in this thread and not via PM.

Price depends on how many are ordered so i'm trying to figure out what the interest level would be. Expect pricing to be more than $175 a pair. These won't be the cheapest way to get a dial, but they will be much more durable and a way to get a blue dial without painting. These will be made from 6061 aluminum so will not be prone to the cracking issue around the drive pin that the original plastic units are.

I modeled these up on the computer to match dimensions exactly with a NOS unit. I am ready to get machine shop and anodizing quotes, just need to know what type of quantities for the quote and if there's enough interest to pursue further.

You could make and apply an original style label or paint the arrow I'm having recessed into the tab.

Jud - I'd be interested if the color is a good match. Would powdercoating the face achieve that color better vs. anodizing? Also, what about etching/engraving "SPICER" so as to forgo the sticker (just a thought)? May look funky though I don't know....

Pete,

I will photograph some blue anodizing. It looks nice and I don't think it would be significantly different unless you held it side by side with a NOS unit. Powdercoating may be an option but I'd have to dimensionally change the part to account for the thickness of that.

May be able to machine in the word Spicer but that would add cost and you'd have to detail paint it for it to standout. I'll see if they'll quote it both ways. Here is a mockup that would show unpainted and painted lettering:

Thanks Jud - keep us posted. It would be fun to have a 3D printer to make pieces such as this...

Yep, I just reviewed the quote and figured it all out.

If we can find owners for 9 sets, I can get the price down to $190 each per set or approximately $210 each anodized. Otherwise, the price is quite a bit higher per set since there is a one time programming and setup charge.

Tell your friends about these, so far there is not enough interest to go forward. We'll need a few more people to make the cost affordable.

Jud did you ever move forward with this? I am finally starting on my truck and would like a set of these.

Hi Tony, I still need to get more guys to indicate they will buy. Then if I can get 10 to commit with a nominal down payment, I will get a batch made. The more people we get, the better the price.

Hope to see pics of the truck, are you doing a build thread?
Jud

Jud just let me know what the down payment will be. I will send it off to you so we can keep the ball rolling.

I will send you a pm about the truck to keep this thread clean.

I Know this is an old thread, but I think it would be very neat and interesting to get them 3-D printed. I do have access to a professional grade printer... Good idea!
