The blazer only sat in the driveway when the wife was not driving it but I was looking for a replacment. I work on the truck in the summer because of the small garage on the house 12X20
it's time to take a good look at it now Find the common rust spots floors, inner&outer cowl, cab corners then for the unexepted above corner windows, back of cab at belt line, inside panel around rear windows Attachment 1051288 started to take it apart Attachment 1051292 seen on a site about striping parts with a batt charger this is what I started with Attachment 1051293 here is the part after cleaning and a little wire brushing Attachment 1051294 |

This is the stripping tank I ended up with after going a little bigger 4 or 5 times tank with front fender in it
Attachment 1051296 after cleaning some parts it looks like this Attachment 1051297 Attachment 1051298 Half the hood Attachment 1051299 I would leave the parts in the tank 1to7 days removing them to pressure wash the converted rust off every couple of day. I think this help with the time it took to clean the parts inner fender before pressure washing it Attachment 1051300 |

oil and water gage ran backwards so cut up the unused decal in kit to made it work right. was thinking afterwards could of switch 2wires around to make gage work backward?
Attachment 1054288 1 problem with the speedo is at 50 mph it only reads 25mph on the gage think the problem is in the needle swipe jimmy gage was smaller Attachment 1054289 the odometer in the speedo head is just a non working set of numbers the circuit board for the gage set is mounted under the dash with the odometer on it . can't find a pic of it Attachment 1054291 Attachment 1054292 Attachment 1054293 |

Re: Jed's 49 3100
Having fun with the dipping tank the problems I'm having
I can't clean the parts with the pressure washer between dippings and get the loosen rust off so it stop clean having to try to dry them off and wire brush it off lots of dust then redip them the 2 problem is they are rusting as I look at it so I'm trying to coat the part with rust converter after cleaning to slow down the rust. I may wait till spring and dip again or sand blast them. it is getting what paint that is there off |
Re: Jed's 49 3100
Very innovative build here id have to say with all the rust removal techniques and interesting ways of accomplishing said tasks! Whats the solution in the tanks?
Are you planning to keep the truck a 4x4 with the blazer parts intact? If you wanted to convert it to 2wd its as simple as getting a set of 98+ 2wd blazer hubs and then pulling all the 4x4 components out back to the transfer case output. I personally like the 4x4 frame s10 swap idea since no spacers are required up front to get the proper track width on 2wd wheels. Posted via Mobile Device |
Re: Jed's 49 3100
the only thing in the tank is water and arm and hammer washing soda
I have made it in to a 2wd removed front diff the wheel hubs have the axle end still there to hold it together.I liked the 4x4 so it will lower the front end by backing out the 2 bolts on the T bar went down about 2" without the lowering keys.My plan is to ext the frame and put the box on this summer remove tranfer case and put a s10 long box 2pcs driveshaft in should bolt right in then I can drive it around to check that everythings ok. I built a 2wd 4l60e for it that I have put a elec speedo senser in the case for the computer and i can hook up a cable to the 49 speedo head and run it |

update on heater fan found out that the grd wire on the motorwent to the housing too .where the yellow marks are is the bent over tabs that hold it together
Attachment 1064315 you can see the spot weld at the plug on the bear wire Attachment 1064316 here I broke the weld and the plug is off the housing Attachment 1064317 I put some tape on the housing to insulate the plug from the housing Attachment 1064318 then just put it back together and check that it work from the plug and check with the grd wire on the housing it don't work |
Re: Jed's 49 3100
Looking great Jim. I never would have thought to take the motor apart and disconnect the internal ground. I Isolated mine with a rubber washer and nylon nuts/bolts. Works well, but your method is definately cleaner!

after I did it I looked at a aftermarket one I had it has 3 wires coming out of the motor 2 to the plug and 1 green wire going to the housing .thinking but didn't check removeing green wire to see if housing was not grd then. its a little hard to see but the screw holds the wire Attachment 1067067 |
