You wont believe this!
http://autos.yahoo.com/blogs/motoram...160911547.html
Some where in Nebraska a longtime Chevrolet dealership over the years held onto a treasure trove of NEW 60/s cars and a few trucks. This coming September they are going to auction these items off. Sure wish I could get ahold of one of their auction catalogs. AMAZING....and true. |

Re: You wont believe this!
And here is a posting over there that the auctioneer left....hopefully everyone will respect the wishs of the owner..
HI, This is Yvette VanDerBrink-VanDerBrink Auctions, please stay tuned to MY website for correct information. This is an amazing story and many fun things. We will be adding more info, pictures, video, and more. DO NOT COME TO PIERCE,NE prior to the preview time of the auction on 9-28-2013. IN respect to the family, we will have a preview for everyone on 27th, 2013. It will be a 2 day auction. I will be posting a preliminary listing on the website soon and on to my e-newsletter. I just talked to the daughter and she wants to make sure no one bothers her Dad at this time. He has suffered medical problems and we don't need anymore stress. Thanks you- Yvette |
Re: You wont believe this!
I just saw the video. Amazing!!
Unfortunately, the video I saw showed the same 6 cars over and over. I would really like to see the 1964 trucks. Just imagine how many restoration questions that those vehicles could answer. I'm really curious if the auction house is going to detail the cars or sell them as-is? Many collectors would freak out if somebody washed all the dirt off, believe it or not. They prefer to keep them in their "as found" condition. |
Re: You wont believe this!
heres the auctioneers website with a good read on the owner, i says alot of the 500 or more cars that are on the farm are trade in vehicles that the owner stashed there:

Re: You wont believe this!
I wonder if I could win the lottery between now and then because I'm pretty sure those vehicles are gonna demand a premium!
|
Re: You wont believe this!
Holy sh.., without even looking deeply into the inventory, there appears to be a whole bunch of NEW '64 pickups in the mix. I can hardly wait to find out if they were preserved or just left out to rot. This frankly is mind blowing stuff.

OEM, I know you're thinking that there's a burb middle mat squirreled away somewhere in that old dealership... |
Re: You wont believe this!
Hopefully somebody gets the chance to take plenty of photos, especially photos Chevy never used in their sales literature. I' am talking engine colors, bellhousing colors, transmission colors. Decals and tags under the hood would also be helpful in those trying to pull off a concourse type restoration. Its hard to believe a dealership would hold on to vehicles and pay the invoice for each vehicle, nothings is free, even dealerships have to pay GM.

Re: You wont believe this!
Reading on other sites, it looks like the ones left outside were dealership trade ins, the new ones were kept inside.
|
Re: You wont believe this!
I am going to try and get the auction catalog at a minimum. Might even try to convince my wife that this is a once in a lifetime opportunity to attend.
If there is any way that I can swing it...I will be there. |
Re: You wont believe this!
I can't believe they were putting car parts on those cars...
|
Re: You wont believe this!
Looks like they've got a few other auctions on their website of massive car discoveries.. Most of the cars are ho-hum--but look like some nice projects.. The couple of 62-64 Chevy full-size cars would be great projects.. But--I think a large majority of the cars will get sold for little $$..

Re: You wont believe this!
Wow, awesome!
|
Re: You wont believe this!
WOWZA,would have liked to see the 60's truck though...
|
Re: You wont believe this!
Do you think that any of those 64-66 c10's will sell at reasonable prices??? I would be hoping for $500-$1000. Most appear to be I6's. If they have been sitting outside for 40-50 years I would be concerned about extreme rot. Does any one know what the rust is like in Nebraska? I know if it were in Michigan there would be nothing left but the headlights. Also, is anyone going to make the journey out there for this?
|
Re: You wont believe this!
sounds cool, but from what I understand is that a majority of the cars have been stripped. I spoke to a couple of people that live in the area and they are familiar with that group of cars. Most were parked in a field and the ones on the edge of the field have been seriously stripped and parted. Rust and rot is an issue on a great deal more. From what I understand only a few are complete and fewer still, still run.
But on the plus side, who could argue with being the first registered owner of a 50 year old car/truck. :metal: |
Re: You wont believe this!
A very cool story either way. Just something you don't hear about every day.

Best thing to do with those, clean them up, and put them right back into storage. Wouldn't even spin them over.

Re: You wont believe this!
5 miles means it should have a good speedometer for parts at least.....
|
Re: You wont believe this!
Ok If anyone attends this they must take plenty of pictures and prices they sold for.thanks..
|
Re: You wont believe this!
Lotta cool stuff!
|
Re: You wont believe this!
I plan on attending! Who knows what things will go for as this auction is in the middle of nowhere (over 3 hours from the nearest city)... I'd "live post" the event but I doubt I'll have cell coverage. I'll take some pictures and will definitely let you guys know what things went for!

Re: You wont believe this!
Anyone found pictures or anything showing the 65's that are supposed to be in this auction?
Last I looked she had 3 pages of pictures of mostly stuff and only a few cars and 1 blue Cameo truck. I would think if she was having an auction of this caliber there would be way more hype and information than there is. |
Re: You wont believe this!
I have a feeling that a few deep pockets will go home with most of the vehicles. and they will disappear again for a long time. thats usually how these thing work. the guy with a few grand looking to buy his dream truck gets outbid quickly.
|
Re: You wont believe this!
Believe it or not, there was a short segment on NBC evening news covering the story last Thursday night 8-15. Actually, the showed 2 64's or 65's that were stored outside with original paint ( paint worn down to primer in some spots). They also showed a very clean original paint '59 Chevy pickup, that was stored inside a building. This truck had a very clean interior with original nice upholstery ( two things that are uncommon on any old Chevy pickup). Bottom line, if the vehicle was kept indoors, it would be a buy of a lifetime, if it was kept out in the elements, expect to do a restoration.
|
Re: You wont believe this!
If you have seen the pictures you won't be upset. The trucks are junk and not worth anymore than any other one on Craigslist that needs a total restoration. I was wanting to go but I have been to plenty of junk auctions and 90% of this stuff is junk.

Re: You wont believe this!
My only reason to try going now is that I have 120 miles to drive and a friend's place to park my truck and trailer and I have a love of hauling parts trucks back to my place. The Cameo would be a lottery dream and will take a lottery winner to buy that piece of history. The outdoor vehicles are next to scrap but I can't resist the chance to try and document as much original markings and pieces as I can get close too amongst the crowd. Then just watch out for the thieves before, during, and after the auction. I can't imagine those once new uninstalled factory truck floor mats still being in the truck after the sale. The vehicle or whats left of it is yours on the gavel drop so who knows what will happen then. I don't know how 500 plus vehicles that don't even roll can leave that remote auction site with that many site see'ers that weekend. I expect there will be a 25 mile backup of vehicles just getting to Pierce, NE on those days. Then if it would be rain or snow that weekend, the whole thing would be a disaster.

Re: You wont believe this!
I would definitely go if I lived in Nebraska just to do what you said Mark, document and look for a parts truck.

Re: You wont believe this!
If you go to this link:
http://www.vanderbrinkauctions.com/online_auction.htm It will take you to the auction page and you can look at descriptions and pictures of each individual vehicle. You can bid on the vehicles now. They have several 64s that look great with less than 10 miles. I also looked at a 65 that was pretty hammered. |

What an incredible situation. Still boggling my mind with every new bit of info. Some of those trucks look decent, but wondering what they are like underneath. No description or pics of that, and I bet a lot of them were sunk to their frames for years. |
Re: You wont believe this!
When reading about their conditions most of them are missing radiators-bed wood-tailgates. Has some one has been robbing them ?
|
Re: You wont believe this!
We're looking forward to going

Re: You wont believe this!
If you check the last Google Earth of that location, you can see the forest where the rows of cars are sitting now in the auction pictures and no vehicles were visible before with the tree cover. The whole area was a tree forest until the dozers came in and moved the vehicles from there and cut and dozed the trees.. The trees also grew right up to the road and I bet the thieves over the years came in there and stripped parts off them well hidden in the trees then took the loot out by night next to the road. There is a large scrap metal industry near there so the radiators, batteries, alternators, etc and tailgates were surely scrapped out over the years out there by theft. Could have also accounted why 400 vehicles were so well packed in there by years of accumiltion. Then trees grew up around them that it became impossible to get any complete vehicles out after some point. I noticed how bad the rust is on the cowl sections and where the frames sat in the leaves and silt. I expect the drums/brakes/spindles are rusted solid so they will take a lot of work to get to be a roller. I also see a lot of forklift- loader damage on vehicles from getting them out of the trees and lined up already. Now figure out how all those purchased auction vehicles will be safely loaded and shipped and remain in tact around an event of spectators so large. The buyers better plan to have a lot of patience and reserve cash for the services and time involved for storage, fork lift service to be loaded onto lowboy type trucks or flatbed trailers that can handle a non rolling vehicle too.

Re: You wont believe this!
I would love to go, long haul for me.

Re: You wont believe this!
Good detective work HOTFUN, and good observations. That explains why many vehicles have crushed roofs, hoods and beds. When tires went flat, the vehicles sank into the dirt and mud. There is one photo of a hubcap completely rusted in half in the back of the bed. My observation of the pickups is that they all seem to be ordered by the dealer the same way. Most all have 230 6 cylinders, 4 speed transmissions, long beds, radio delete and mud and snow tires on rear. This was typical of what farmers would buy in a rural market.

Re: You wont believe this!
Do ya'll think the sheet metal is good on these vehicles, I'm talking about parts trucks. Do you think the fenders will be rusted in the usual places???
|
Re: You wont believe this!
I would like to go, no question about it.....On another note sometime in the late 80's I was told about a ranch/farm outside of Casa Grande, AZ that had large numbers of 50's and 60's chevy trucks parked there. Apparently the owner was unwilling to sell anything. I never verified this, may have been one of those hopeful rumors. This auction triggered my recall. I could use a nice 65 or 66 c10 project again.
