Project (WRAITH)

Hi everybody,

My name is Shane and I am a total newbie when it comes to these trucks. Also wrenching isn't my strong suit but since hanging out on this forum and bugging the crap out of all you guys has helped me out tremendously, special shout out to Travis (truckmanloco) and Eric (superflysteiny) for all your help! I started out with a 68 C10 swb Custom that I bought in Lowell Oregon for $500 bucks, the truck was in good shape except for a small tweak in the front of the frame. I took the frame to a shop and they straightened for me. My plans are to have the truck have a dark sinister look about it, to run 22's front and rear along with a front and rear extreme dropmember so here goes nothing! lol

Here I'm still disassembling the truck down to the chassis.

If you look hard you can see that the front of the frame is tweaked to the left!

So I decided to go with Fuel Offroad Hostages for wheels which are also my avatar. These wheels are pretty aggressive looking 22x11 in the rear with I believe a 4.75 inch backspace. I went down to the local Tire Factory and they had a set of used 305/40/R22 Toyo Proxes STII for $80 so I got them thinking I'm just going to burn them off anyway! lol

I was going to convert to 5 lug but decided to stay 6 lug so instead of going with Wilwood brakes I went with CPP Big Brakes.

I love the black on black murdered out look which is the look I'm going for hence the Title and theme WRAITH aka REAPER, sort of like Porterbuilt's shop truck but meaner looking! I'd also like to do the dash and door panels in a skull pattern hydrographic.

Tell me what your thoughts are!

Hey Everyone,

Shane here, I know this build is going as slow as the second coming but hang in there the finished product will be one mean looking truck!

PorterBuilt Rear Extreme Dropmember just showed up it sucked waiting for it to show up! (Like a kid waiting to get a bb gun on Christmas!) Anyway got some grinding done so the notches will sit completely flat and going to start drilling holes and then cutting away the frame! Any pointers for finding exact center of the notch? Can't say enough good things about Nate's craftsmanship his products are badass!

Shane

Don't know if I'm going to keep the Chevy letters on the hood or not. I bought a 2 inch cowl hood so I would have to drill a hole for each letter. The whole front clip is brand new, the hood looks badass! Can't wait to get a rolling chassis!!!

A little progress I got the rear extreme dropmember bolted up for mock up just need to get angles finalized and a driveline and get the bag perches welded! Not bad for a greenhorn!

So I have a small problem I measured my rear end and was told with my setup that 2 inches off each side would be perfect well it's too short. Right now the wheel will rub on the bridge on my extreme dropmember. Are wheel spacers a good idea or do I need a new housing? The wheels aren't bolted up but but they're too close when bolted up.

I guess I just need to get the bed on and see. I guess I could always get the inboard PB bridge with the bags on the inside! I just want the stance right don't want the wheel too far in the wheel well.

Wheel spacers would be fine they use em off road so I figure where your gunna be driving it it would be safe!

I also noticed that when I bolted everything up one notch was off little less than a 1/4 inch, is it going to be a big deal? I'm freaking out cuz I'm anal about my truck!

Where is the discrepancy? Typically less than 1/4" is no big deal. Just curious where it is "off" at.

The right notch is back further than the left one.

We all like things to be "perfect"... me included. BUT... I wouldn't be overly concerned with 3/16 of an inch on your notch placement. You will never notice or feel any effects due to this discrepancy.

Thanks Nate I'm stoked with your products all my buddies are amazed at your craftsmanship! I will be getting the front dropmember soon. Here is a pic of the notches, you can see the right notch is a tad further back.

Nate,

Do you think the notch placement looks ok? We measured 26.5 from the middle of the second mount to the middle of the notch. Sorry for bugging you I just want this to be right, I'm freaking out cuz it's already bolted up. I have a pic in this thread so you can see.

It doesn't look to be off in the pics. To put your mind at rest you can use a square or plumb bob to confirm the measurement for the notch centerline. As you stated its 26.5" back from the center of the second (the flat one riveted to the top of the frame) bed mount brackets mounting hole. That's the center of the hole where the bolt from the bed drops through (good pics in the instructions). If you come up with the correct measurement you can sleep again. Don't worry if you are 1/4" off or so. It will still be fine.

Nate,

Thanks man we used a plumb bob and squared everything up and we measured 26.5 so should be good. Was wondering with the suspension fully compressed where should the rear end touch up in the notch in the very middle or little forward in the notch?

shacrm 10-23-2013 10:35 AM

Re: Project (WRAITH)

Thanks 68BOWTIE! Waiting for some funds and the front end will be ordered I'm trying to get my bed mocked up soon so I can get this rear end right!

We set it up so the notch center line measurement puts the notch in the center of the bed's wheel well opening. We also designed the suspension so that the axle lands in the center of the notch when fully deflated... centering it in the wheel well. This puts it slightly rearward at ride height.... but we figured it best to center it when you are aired out and everybody is checking out the truck!

Nothing really new going on, waiting to get front dropmember kit. Got a new Chevy 12 bolt rear end since I had the last one cut too short, but I sold the old rear end for a good profit so not out any money. Lesson learned measure twice cut once! Lol
