Fastest small tire/ radial truck?
So me and my buddy were talking the other day about the fastest small tire/radial truck. His truck has ran a best of 5.25 @ 136 in the 1/8 on a 315/60r15 mickey thompson radial. Does anybody know of a faster truck? obviously there are pro mod trucks out there but were talking about door slammer, no wheelie bars, stock chassis, mostly steel bodies (fiberglass hood), on a 10.5 slick or radial. Just curious.

Everyone's perception of small tire is different. We are having this discussion on one of my local boards now. They say anything bigger than a 28x10.5 non w is a big tire, so a 29.5x10.5 non w is considered a big tire by their standards. So with that a 315/60/15 would be a big tire being 30" tall. Mind telling us a little about the truck? Is it a full size or Luv/S10? Posted via Mobile Device |
Re: Fastest small tire/ radial truck?
I'm curious as to what kind of truck as well. Is it still stock type suspension? I guess at the end of the year, and if I have any remaining money, I will have to try to turn mine up a little. I am curious as to where the bar is set as well.

Re: Fastest small tire/ radial truck?
The slick he runs is a 29.5x10.5s. In my opinion the size of the radial doesn't matter cause that puts it into the radial tire category. Around here small tire is considered 10.5 wide diameter doesn't seem to matter. The truck itself is a 67 Chevy short wide stock frame rails that have been boxed. The front suspension is all custom tubular and the rear suspension is custom trailing arms. Truck has coilovers all around. The truck currently has a steel block 604 with a power glide and a fab 9". Current weight is about 3450 but he is getting an aluminum block to get him closer to 3300 where the class weight is. I will try to post some pics of it later. He's hopin with the new weight and some more tuning he can get close to a 5.0's.

Re: Fastest small tire/ radial truck?
Truck sounds cool, would love to see some pics.
Correct me if I am wrong, but aren't there different radial catagories? Something like 275 or smaller and 285 and bigger? Just confused a bit, in the beginning you mention "5.25 @ 136 in the 1/8 on a 315/60r15 mickey thompson radial" but then you mention a 29.5x10.5 slick. I run a 315/60/15 MT DR which is technically bigger at the starting line :) 1.7" of extra tread width but basically same overall roll out, at least until the big end when the slick grows. Settle down there Hotrod :) wasn't hating at all. Was just wondering ;)

Re: Fastest small tire/ radial truck?
well around here there is a x275 class at some races but most are just radial classes with no size. He made the 5.25 pass on the 315/60/15 radial. His fastest slick pass was I think 5.32

Re: Fastest small tire/ radial truck?
Don't know if I will get mine to a 5.2-5.3 but I am shooting for somewhere in the 5.5x range.

Re: Fastest small tire/ radial truck?
That is moving out for sure, especially on a stock type suspension. I guess I have something to shoot for at the end of the year. I'll have to do it on 28x10.5 tires that M&H, and Coker tires provides for me. I would like to see some photos of this truck, sounds like a bad hay hauler!

Re: Fastest small tire/ radial truck?
Not the fastest but all steel, stock suspension and all motor ran 8.11 @ 123mph in 1000" on 275!60

Re: Fastest small tire/ radial truck?
Hotrod, some of those times/mph are just plain look funky. Some of them either didn't hook or lifted. Examples:
8. VMAX2005 ------- 10.06@119 (lifted or out of gear?) 10. EBER ---------------- 10.17@139 (didn't 60' that great?) Vmax's time reminds me of my bottle pass in my sig. I lifted just after the 1/8 due to valve train issues. I say both the above have more in their combos. Posted via Mobile Device |
Re: Fastest small tire/ radial truck?
I'm thinking their cage wasn't approved for sub 10 second passes.

The truck made a new fastest pass of 5.07@139. He tried to shoot for a 4.9x on the next pass and it did this wheelie.

Re: Fastest small tire/ radial truck?
Ouch, hope he didn't damage a lot of stuff when it came down.
|
Re: Fastest small tire/ radial truck?
it bent the upper shock towers a little but not bad. he was able to peddle it back down then it lifted again about 300' when he got back in it and still ran a 5.30

Re: Fastest small tire/ radial truck?
Whoa that's some serious air......all 4

Re: Fastest small tire/ radial truck?
Epic!

Re: Fastest small tire/ radial truck?
Bobby Flippin has been 4's on a a 275 radial. Stock suspension leaf spring S10.

Re: Fastest small tire/ radial truck?
Lol funny story here. My buddy did the engine in this truck. I heard it is for sale.
|
Re: Fastest small tire/ radial truck?
He had TRE build it this last time and yes it is for sale. Any takers?!?!?!
|
Re: Fastest small tire/ radial truck?
Yeh . I help Taylor at TRE with some stuff. We tested in Nobile the week before last. I am doing my own truck project currently . What is he asking for it ? I heard it has been 4.90s now. I do know someone looking for a truck . I don't know how serious he is . This is the fastest small tire truck that I know of. Looks like there are a few guys in Ok. getting him to do stuff now. What did the truck weigh? I saw 3400 + lbs somewhere. I didn't know if it had a good bit of ballast or not. Was crazy I have never seen so many trucks at a local track in my life as Nobile.
|
Re: Fastest small tire/ radial truck?
I think $50,000 turn key. Yes he went 4.90's earlier this year. He has to be at 3300 for class weight and I think he just over that with him in it. There is a lot of "fast" trucks up here. Some of these guys put a programmer and a cold air intake on and call it a "Built race truck" haha

SkyView Racing!

Re: Fastest small tire/ radial truck?
This might be a little off tangent, but the race weight thing had me thinking. Why isn't there ever a racing category with high weight minimums? I know that some bracket orgs will do a "diesel class" or similar for those hd trucks, but I never see like a "fully dressed" category. (but I don't mean a daily driver category)
I'm just bs'ing the idea, but I've had similar discussions with friends while barstool racing. I'm referring more for the oddball vehicles (and that in itself may be the reason no category would make sense). /ot |
Re: Fastest small tire/ radial truck?
Make it lite. Put the weight where you want it. Heavy cars can be hard on parts also
|
Re: Fastest small tire/ radial truck?
Heavy cars are also more dangerous in a wreck.

Re: Fastest small tire/ radial truck?
Does this truck have the Scots hot rods front end? They were telling me about trucks down here. I think the farm truck is switchin now .
|
Re: Fastest small tire/ radial truck?
No, this truck does have a tubular front end but its all custom built by him. Im sure the front end in this truck is lighter than the Scotts.
|
Re: Fastest small tire/ radial truck?
This truck went 4.85 2 weeks ago in Tulsa. This weekend hes shooting for a 4.7? in the x275 class
|
Re: Fastest small tire/ radial truck?
how did it run?
|
Re: Fastest small tire/ radial truck?
He changed the converter and killed his 60. His fastest pass was a 4.88 at 146 and he got runner up in a 16 car field!!

Re: Fastest small tire/ radial truck?
