My Winter Build 54 Chevy 1300

I have a 54 I will be removing from the original frame and mount it onto a purchased Frame.

The frame I ordered has a mustang 2 front end, Rear end will be a Ford 9" with 350 posi. With 4 link.

Brakes are Wildwood 12" all the way around.

Truck is also Bagged front and rear.

Motor and trans came out of a 88 chev 1/2 ton. 350 with a 700r4.

Trans is out for a rebuild getting built to handle 500 hp and 5oo tq 1800 stall.

Motor is getting the 383 treatment.

Very nice, is that the TCI frame, looks like their new front-end setup. Like the way your going with this, top of the line stuff...Jim

54 CHEVY LR 11-01-2013 11:41 PM

Re: My Winter Build 54 Chevy 1300

Yes it.is.the TCI frame. I looked.around. they have fixed.all previous issues. Fit on the parts is perfect.

Tranny is back from rebuild as is the.motor.
My plan is to.complete the drive train then start on the body.

More pictures and work when I get back from a short holiday.

Home on Thursday

Any more progress on this?

Re: My Winter Build 54 Chevy 1300

I am back from a quick holiday. I picked up the motor and trans. Painted the the trans, and front spindles. installed the spindles, rotors and brake calipers.
Today I am assembling the rear 4 link, and maybe attach motor to trans and set it into the frame.

should be a busy day.

Well I was able to assemble the rear end today. The coating made the assembly tough. Had to clean all the threads on the linkages, then assemble.
Had a football game to watch also ( GO Riders)

Wow at the rate your going the truck will be on the road before the new year, to bad for all this snow. Do you plan on taking it to any shows around town?

54 CHEVY LR 11-19-2013 11:15 PM

Re: My Winter Build 54 Chevy 1300

Snow Snow and more of it. The truck is being built as a Driver. I am sure it will be seen around town.

Last night I Bled the brakes, mounted a torque converter cover, and installed a thermostat and housing.

Shopped for Air line fittings got them installed today.

I like fast. I hope to have this truck complete by june 2014.

I want to finish the frame then start on the body. I am thinking I may need to get the body in sooner as I am trying to decide on the air tank placement. I might go outside the frame. I placed my Gas tank and air tank inside the frame behind the axle, they fit. BUT my filler will not be centered in the box. My dillema.

Any ideas as to how I should install the tanks? this is all new to me:)

Jyman 11-22-2013 12:51 AM

Re: My Winter Build 54 Chevy 1300

you could always put the air tank in the cab behind the seat where the old gas tank would have been, it would be safer then the gas tank sitting behind you :)

Not much done this week. I installed the emergency brake cables. Have them run to the brake pedal area. Also conected the air lines to the bags from.the stainless lines. Set the fuel injection body onto the manifold and cut the kick down cable to length, mounted the return springs. Installed the wire holders and made up the spark plug wires.

Installed a Marsh serpentine system on the block.

Drive shaft picked up, ready to polish and install.
