1963 Truck VIN #'s

Looks like the 66 guys are having all the fun with their VIN registry, so I thought I'd start one for the 63 guys. Im interested to see if any trucks were built close to mine on the line.

I'll start with mine...

3C144B120042

3 = 1963
C = 2wd
14 = 1/2 ton Shotbed 115" wheelbase
4 = Pickup
B = Baltimore Assembly plant
120042 = Vehicle number

If you happen to know any more info on the original dealer or who took purchase, please share that also.

My truck was sold by Shumaker Chevrolet Co in Ford City, PA (about 40 miles NE of Pittsburgh) to a man in Kittanning, PA (about 4 miles from the dealership) based off the info in the trucks owner protection plan. The owner identifaction number in the book is T 419085

I think 1963 was the last year for Oakland production and then moved to Freemont.

So 2 for Baltimore and 1 for Oakland. Any others out there?

3C144S110281 This one ended up a long way from St. Louis. I purchased it in Nampa, ID in pieces from a guys back yard. The cab, frame and vin all match but the rest of the truck is a grab bag of parts.

Here's mine:

3C154F112791

3 = 1963
C = 2wd
15 = 1/2 ton 127" wheelbase
4 = Pickup
F = Flint Assembly plant
112791 = Vehicle number

I bought the truck in Michigan from a man who said the truck has been in Michigan its whole life. The only things not as original are the front seat upholstery (much nicer than original) and the toolbox in the bed. It came to me with some chrome wheels that I sold and replaced with 15x8 rally and 235/75R15 radials. I have a pair of 15x6 and a pair of 15x5.5 original wheels. If I had four the same size, I'd run them instead...at least until I installed front discs, if ever.

...ned.

Good eye ...
Imagine that, those two trucks were so similar in style and adornments....Empires truck was sitting in the "ready line", just glistening away in the St. Louis sunshine when Ronnies Wifes truck came toodling off the assembly line and probably rolled right past it on its way to the holding pen.

And, yes.....it's past my bedtime.

3C2540116693 another one from the Oakland plant. '63 C20 delivered to Salt Lake City Utah then on to Roy Price Chevrolet in Bountiful Utah where it was sold to the original owner in April 1963. She hasn't strayed too far as she now resides 5 miles North of the now long gone Roy Price Chevrolet dealership.

I imagine that some of the same people worked on both of them. And they both look to be custom cabs....probably a day or two at most off the assembly line.

Also...this is a good page on 1963 trucks. Doesn't help much with production numbers, but a lot of facts and base prices.

Have you tried to use a little thinner or something similar to clean the plaque? The kick panel plaque is the only place I know of for the 63 models unless you have any paperwork from the purchase order. Can you find any original color on the firewall or any of the other hard to get spots?

They left the writing on the fire wall, the color there looks like brigade blue but not sure, tried a little thinner but was afraid i'd wipe off the factory writing

Do the vehicle #'s start at 100,000 and do they correspond to each specific model? In other words does my truck's #105199 mean that it is the 5199th 1/2 ton and 4x4 and longbed and stepside or just 1/2 ton?

1963c-10 11-18-2013 03:16 PM

Re: 1963 Truck VIN #'s

I'll try and get a more definitive answer, but my understanding is that truck production started at number 100,000. Which makes yours # 5199 for the Baltimore plant and it should cover all trucks that came off their assembly line.

So far its the oldest 63 we have a VIN for.

115 is the short bed, 127 is the long and the 5,000lb makes it a c-10 or 1/2 ton
