New member, K20
1 Attachment(s)
Like most new members I've been watching this site from the side lines so I thought I would show my ride. It's a '63 K20, 292 (I think, the po said it was a 230) I replaced the brake lines/shoes, carb, added power steering, getto fabed a bracket for the pump, new leaf springs in front, new rocker panels and corners, sound/insulation/rubber mat. Have had it for about 6 months now and love it. In one of my pics (hopefully it loaded) what is this? It comes off the heater core then to the rear driver side of motor. Thank you.

How do I post more pictures?

Welcome to the forum :D
You can post multiple pictures to each post, you just have to upload one at a time from your computer. Quote:

Re: New member, K20
I'm guessing my pictures are too large. I uploaded 7 pics and only the last one posted

Interesting how the 63 masters all bleed onto the firewall.

Welcome to the board! I'm fairly new here too and have a 60 K20 that I'm just trying to get on the road for now. Got to get a new windshield and I should be good. :metal:

It would be a 292 if the side covers are 6 inches in height. That is the easiest way to check. Or if the fuel pump is in the middle of the block. A 194-230-250 have 4 inch side covers and the fuel pump is directly behind the distributor. Here is a picture of my 292's side covers just to give you an idea...:chevy:

Re: New member, K20
Post# 13 has a Bus Type inline heater. Had one on my 62 K10. It should be used for an hour before starting. Any more and you'll be melting snow off the hood. They had a reputation for catching fire. Mine never did. Loved that heater.
Deluxe Gauge dash, nice option. Tow hooks are not original, but useful. Locking hub Option, nice. Aftermarket west coast mirrors, while retaining the small standard round mirror, second truck I've seen today equipped that way. Paint 507 Brigade Blue? Would like some pictures of the spotlight please! Nice truck. P.S. You need to give your headlight bezels their " Black Eyes". A "63" painted grill only detail. https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-J...0/SAM_0314.JPG |

Re: New member, K20
I agree...great looking truck. Does appear to be a 292. And Id also like to see some pics of the spotlight mounting....looks much more forward than mine is. Looks like a unity s-6 though.

Re: New member, K20
What's a "bus type inline heater"? It has a wire coming off the bottom and heads up to the grill with a plug on it. The truck came from CO and was used to plow snow at an egg plant and I am having issues with the electrical. It has a switch on the dash that if turned on the headlights go out, so I assume it was for some kind of plow lights. I installed a new alt, coil, wires, distributer and was running great. All of a sudden (weeks after work was done) it won't hold a charge, I'll turn the headlights on and the gauge on the dash drops a quarter down, then if I turn the heater on it will drop all the way down. Do I have a bad ground with the headlights? If I am just driving with nothing on it the gauge stays right in the middle. Thank you everyone for your help.

Re: New member, K20
Id check the voltage regulator personally if you know the alternator is charging good. And chevy wasn't the greatest on grounds with anything electrical, so extra gounds on the light will help.
Your probably spot on w/the plow lights, but pics help greatly here. |
Re: New member, K20
The truck appears to have been a off white color originally.
I pulled the tow hooks off a '70-'80's Suburban, the horse shoe welded to the bumper just for kicks! |

Re: New member, K20
The Bus Type Heater does the same as a stock Block Heater. You plug the 110V plug into a electrical socket and it will heat the engine and heater coil. Anything that comes into contact with antifreeze will be heated. Great for cold winter months start up.
My advise is to tear any wiring that doesn't come from the factory out of the truck and if necessary start over. Used Scrap Northern trucks have better wiring harnesses than southern trucks as there not dried out from the heat. The switch on the dash is the one mounted under the dash to the right of the steering column? Get yourself a 63 Shop Manual. The American Version has less illustrations than the Canadian version apparently. I have a spare if you need one. |
Re: New member, K20
Unity Spotlight Bracket#31.
They came with a tapered rubber wedge for 60-63 Chevy trucks. They were used on other vehicles as well. Take a look for these when you spot an old Fire Truck. Please tell me the hubcaps hanging on the wall, in post#28, are not from this truck? Original spiral rear shocks! |

Here's the switch, also I forgot to mention I did replace the voltage regulator. I like to start with the most expensive and hardest part to replace then work backwards only to find its a loose wire, the wife loves that stuff! |
Re: New member, K20
Just saw this thread. I'm along for the ride. Great looking truck you have there!

Re: New member, K20
it appears that in picture #16 that it still had the original factory steel wheels. Those are probably the factory hubcaps and I have been looking for a set of factory 8 lug wheels and caps for my 64 single wheel 1 ton 4x4 military truck. Who would think he would take them off....
|
Re: New member, K20
63 4WD. did not come from the factory with hubcaps. All my literature states they did not, nor do you see any factory photo's with them on.

I welded some clips on the 16 inch rims and run the caps when I'm feeling a bit crazy. |
