Re: K20 Identity Crisis
Finally got Drill Sergeant running! It always amazes me how much time it takes to do all the detail work involved in putting an engine compartment together. Paint this - paint that, make sure all the bolts are uniformed. One thing I like to... do on hose clamps is I will put the clamp on and tighten it down, mark the excesses, take the clamp back off and cut off the excess, then reinstall.
Its the little things like that, that take all the time. https://scontent-b-sjc.xx.fbcdn.net/...27108227_n.jpg https://scontent-b-sjc.xx.fbcdn.net/...01489272_n.jpg |

Re: K20 Identity Crisis
Awesome!
I'm digging the body work on the in bed fuel tanks and fender flares. |
Re: K20 Identity Crisis
Stunning work! I love it.

Re: K20 Identity Crisis
Because the cab is 7+ inches forward and up a few inches from its stock position, the 4wd shift lever needed to be moved forward and since I had to move it, I went ahead and put it exactly where I wanted it. These pictures show the making of all parts and pieces to do this.

Also the new location of the dipstick. https://fbcdn-sphotos-g-a.akamaihd.n...75039684_n.jpg Oh by the way - I noticed all the dust on this project too, and yes it bothers me. I will alert housekeeping. |
Re: K20 Identity Crisis
I'm a collision repair, restoration tech, painter, you name it by trade for 15 years now, and I must say that's slick!! I want to find a C50 and take the aluminum Jer-dan Rollback bed I have and put on one. I think it would give my place a calling card and be bad- A. Keep up the work. Im building a 71 LWB K10 in memory of my grandfather right now.. maybe the rollback C50 will be my next project.. hhmmm

Re: K20 Identity Crisis
Awesome build, now you need some diesel muscle under the hood a gasser can't possible provide! Can you provide any/more details in what it take to put the C50 front clip on a p/u cab? Is that modified to tilt forward? Awesome build!

Re: K20 Identity Crisis
I'll follow this one too.

Re: K20 Identity Crisis
Hey!!! I love your TCase shifter relocation. Do you care if I steal the idea for mine?
|
Re: K20 Identity Crisis
Pretty cool build and it's different.
|
Re: K20 Identity Crisis
now were talkin. this thing needs some m715 axles or some rockwells. smething with a big six lug with super singles.
|
Re: K20 Identity Crisis
Agreed this is one of the coolest builds I've seen. I'm in love with the gas tank idea. Maybe I missed it but what axles do you plan on running?
|
Re: K20 Identity Crisis
also when this is finished the 67-72 guys like us that see this drive by will have to look a 3rd even 4th time to figure out what they just saw haha

Re: K20 Identity Crisis
This is a picture of the new shifter configuration. Still need to do a little clean up on it.
https://scontent-b-sjc.xx.fbcdn.net/...02434850_n.jpg Alot of blocking on the fenders and grill. The body work on this is probably nicer than a C50 body has ever seen. https://scontent-a-sjc.xx.fbcdn.net/...07696832_n.jpg Paint work went very well, couple runs here and there which is always expected. I guess that is what wet sanding and cut and buff is all about. https://scontent-a-sjc.xx.fbcdn.net/...52124642_n.jpg Grill turned out perfect. I have a backing screen that goes behind the grill which will be put on later. https://scontent-a-sjc.xx.fbcdn.net/...48611322_n.jpg Lots of undercoating on the inside of the fenders. https://scontent-a-sjc.xx.fbcdn.net/...59005638_n.jpg Well now all of that is done, I think I'll have the front end back on the truck, including the hood, this week sometime. |
Re: K20 Identity Crisis
Awesome truck.:metal:

Re: K20 Identity Crisis
Can't wait for more! Love the colors, I'm doing a 47 power wagon and plan on white and a light tan. Looks killer.

Re: K20 Identity Crisis
Well its finally shaping up to be a pretty good looking truck.
The wheels are still out being built. The rear wheels will have an additional 2 inches off set and the fronts will have the stock Camper Special 10 inch wheels. This should fill the flares perfectly. This is definitely an exciting new truck line that we are building at Rtech Fabrications. Just imagine this truck as a crew cab with a 5.9 cummins in it. That is the next truck that we will be building. The crew cab version of this is going to have an all updated interior out of an 08' suburban, possibly dash modifications also to keep the character of the old and the kindness of the new. https://scontent-a-sjc.xx.fbcdn.net/...91472421_n.jpg https://scontent-a-sjc.xx.fbcdn.net/...10192251_n.jpg https://scontent-b-sjc.xx.fbcdn.net/...57899465_n.jpg https://scontent-a-sjc.xx.fbcdn.net/...20187605_n.jpg https://scontent-a-sjc.xx.fbcdn.net/...29573216_n.jpg https://fbcdn-sphotos-f-a.akamaihd.n...61069040_n.jpg |
Re: K20 Identity Crisis
Thats one tough looking truck.
Awesome work. |
Re: K20 Identity Crisis
Awesome progress!
|
Re: K20 Identity Crisis
could you not just run a wider rear 14 bolt?
|
Re: K20 Identity Crisis
Crew cummins will be cool, but The Sarge is way past cool.
|
Re: K20 Identity Crisis
My goodness! What a hulk of a truck!
|
Re: K20 Identity Crisis
I cant keep my eyes off this! Nor can I think of a word that illustrates how beautiful and badass this truck is
Great work! |
Re: K20 Identity Crisis

Re: K20 Identity Crisis
Well it was a quite but snowy Saturday morning, didn't feel much like holding the couch down so I went out to the shop and decided to go ahead and finish up the engine compartment on the Drill Sergeant. First off, I started with installing a two piece remote fuel filter that is easily accessible from up top. Then I went ahead and installed a new multi-post battery. I favor these because I like to utilize the top posts for the main battery cable and side posts for all other accessories, including the fuse block main feed. Next I went ahead and striped the old vinyl wrap off of the engine compartment wiring harness. Checked all wires and then rewrapped with new vinyl and installed. I ran into a hiccup on the voltage regulator. As most of you are probably aware I HATE:devil:Chinese knock off parts. You know the bushings that hold the voltage regulator to the core support, which are also used for mounting the cargo light, tend to pull out a little easier then the originals so I decided to go a better route after completing this and I was very satisfied with the outcome.

Re: K20 Identity Crisis
LOVE IT!
I was thinking recently about placing some jerry cans inside my truck bed in that same area. I know you said you were going to use leather straps to secure it. I was thinking it might be pretty cool to hole saw right were the circle is in the middle of the can and weld a tube through the center. Then secure the can much like some vehicles do for their spare tires with a sort of large washer faced wing nut. I am also curious if you plan to bed line the boxed in area to keep it from getting scuffed up? Awesome, Awesome builds. If you ever need a management or marketing guy, hell a guy to sweep the shop... let me know. I would love to be apart of what your shop is doing. |
Re: K20 Identity Crisis
