Re: Our new shop - AKA Barnasaurus
Gee Wayne, that's a heck of a shop. What kind of business are you opening there?
I'm with Dee. I like to keep my feet on the ground. |
Re: Our new shop - AKA Barnasaurus
Congrats on a great start Wayne!
Size (?) Whats next (?) and, I assume with your tree work, we will see wood heat or a MONDO BIG BONFIRE & BBQ come of all your firewood! :hot: Well done on the barn raising and I'm for sure subscribed! :D |
Re: Our new shop - AKA Barnasaurus
Nice!

Re: Our new shop - AKA Barnasaurus
Thanks everyone!
The size is 60x40x16 (LWH). This will be a place to tinker in when we retire. There will be an upstairs guest/band room and storage loft. We decided to pull the trigger in February of 2013 and between a couple of different contractors, bank stuff, and Texas weather we are finally seeing substantial progress. Can't believe it has taken soooo long to get to this point. ETsC10, a big bonfire is planned with the remaining brush from the tree removal. They are cedar trees and I trimmed all the branches and traded the timbers to a friend. He is going to take them to a local sawmill to have a fire place mantel and cedar planks for closets made for his home. Here is a shot from yesterday - some sheet iron went up. It's a windy day (30 mph gusts) so not sure too much will get accomplished. http://i218.photobucket.com/albums/c...4/HPIM4072.jpg |
Re: Our new shop - AKA Barnasaurus

Re: Our new shop - AKA Barnasaurus
Man that looks nice. Twice the size of my whole house it be.
|
Re: Our new shop - AKA Barnasaurus
The shop is looking good, I like the two tone for the walls.
|
Re: Our new shop - AKA Barnasaurus
I could live in there with all my toys ,that is nice .
|
Re: Our new shop - AKA Barnasaurus
Thanks guys Its twice the size of my house too (we live in the smaller red metal building left of the carport/shed in photo #6 been there 19 years now).
Karl there will be a native stone wainscot where the white steel is now. Should look pretty nice. Here is the progress from Monday through Wednesday http://i218.photobucket.com/albums/c...4/HPIM4106.jpg http://i218.photobucket.com/albums/c...4/HPIM4107.jpg http://i218.photobucket.com/albums/c...4/HPIM4109.jpg Hoping to be in the dry by next week. |
Re: Our new shop - AKA Barnasaurus
The stone should really look great. I thought something was not complete yet since that flashing between the red and white steel seem to stick out to far for not having something below it..
Looking Good Daddy'O! |

Re: Our new shop - AKA Barnasaurus
This is super nice. I really like all the windows, provides lots of light and makes the building a little nicer looking as well. Is there going to be insulation and any HVAC installed?

Re: Our new shop - AKA Barnasaurus
I ask that question because I am going to move to Colorado, and hopefully eventually find a place that I can build a shop. Did yours come as a kit, plans built, you planned, or what? Seems like a good way to build, and the blown in insulation sure does seem like a great idea. I wonder how that would work on a pole barn setup. Looking for an inexpensive way to build without sacrificing safety and comfort.
Really liking this build, thanks for sharing. |
Re: Our new shop - AKA Barnasaurus
earl84 -
The building was my plan (about ten years of dreaming/thinking/drawing/planning). The plans were taken to Mueller metal buildings where they were redrawn using CAD software and engineering approved for wind and snow loads. We are doing some of the work ourselves to save money but I still am relying on my contractor to perform the majority of the work. I'm too old and fat to do this all on my own. I built my own home 20 years ago and I know my limitations...lol. The spray in foam insulation will work with any kind of structure and I'm hoping it will be a good investment because it is not cheap. I would do some research between the pole vs. steel construction because there is no way to know which would be less expensive especially in Colorado. As you are well aware, steel construction is very popular here in Texas and that was my first choice because this is how my home is constructed too. Hope this helps and good luck with your move to the high country. |
Re: Our new shop - AKA Barnasaurus
You had mentioned in a earlier part of this thread, you had to wait a long time to do this,, someone once told me good things come to those who wait,, great job on the building, can't wait to see what you do with the finished product,:canada:

Re: Our new shop - AKA Barnasaurus
Thanks glider_6969, Seeing the progress on the shop definitely makes the wait worth it.
Got a little more done yesterday. The weatherman is forecasting crazy springtime type weather so don't know how much will get done the rest of this week. http://i218.photobucket.com/albums/c...4/HPIM4132.jpg http://i218.photobucket.com/albums/c...4/HPIM4130.jpg http://i218.photobucket.com/albums/c...4/HPIM4129.jpg http://i218.photobucket.com/albums/c...4/HPIM4127.jpg |
Re: Our new shop - AKA Barnasaurus
Very nice! What are your plans for inside other than the 2nd story? Any lifts?

Everything is big in Texas.

Re: Our new shop - AKA Barnasaurus
I like the awning part. It just adds usefullness, and being in Texas, shade!

Re: Our new shop - AKA Barnasaurus
That exhaust fan up high is a great idea. Had one like that waaaay back in my HS shop class and that thing worked amazingly well to get out all kinds of dust in the air.
