56 L92 T-10 build started
Well Im going to start tearing into this thing! What Im working with..... I have a 1956 3100 Body mounted onto a 1984 C10 chassis. Im not the one that did the swap but its mine now and needs lots of things fixed. The guy who did the swap just pretty much threw it together, Im only assuming he had intentions of taking all back apart for paint and fixing some crap work. The truck came with a 350 SBC and TH350, not my cup of tea, Im a LS engine nut. So the fun begins.
I managed to find a killer deal on a 2013 Escalade L92 with a 6L80E pull out. Its being shipped out from MN somewhere, should have it in a week or so. I thought about using the 6l80E but I plan to delete the DOD on the L92 and add a pretty nasty cam. I don't want to spend $800 on a stall and deal with surging issues and tuning problems, so I plan to mount a super T-10 4 speed and use a LS clutch and flywheel with a hydraulic throwout bearing setup. Well this is just the start and Im always open to input and ideas. I like the idea of sharing a build so others may learn and getting the chance to learn from what others have to share. I plan to update as often as I can. Here she is when I bought it a few months ago Pulled the old crap out New power coming! Re: 56 L92 T-10 build started
Very nice man. I like it. Good luck on the build.
I just got a LQ4 for my Cameo and plan on doing a healthy cam and the bottle. What you gonna do with the 6L80? |
Re: 56 L92 T-10 build started
Thanks, should be lots of fun. I'm going to sell the auto 6 speed
|
Re: 56 L92 T-10 build started
It definitely will be lots of fun. I'm excited for mine and having the bigger truck motor to start with.
What you asking for the trans? |

Re: 56 L92 T-10 build started
Found a big window cab, needs some work but I'm not building a truck for paint anyway. May have to get this one. Just keep taking steps backwards!

Re: 56 L92 T-10 build started
Seeing behind you is overrated!!! Just know that the guy behind you is losing!
btw, what wheels do you have on there? those are sharp! Good looking project, looking forward to seeing the progress!! scrib'd! |
Re: 56 L92 T-10 build started
Thanks, they are Bonspeed Intense. Got the offset perfect on them.
|
Re: 56 L92 T-10 build started
Sure did!! That actually caught my eye before the wheels themselves! Awesome job!
|
Re: 56 L92 T-10 build started
Looks like the big window cab is a tosser! The only thing worth while is maybe a big window conversion. Is this really as tuff as I think it is? Can't really pass up the big window donor cab at $300
|
Re: 56 L92 T-10 build started
I sure like the look of big rear window in these trucks
|
Re: 56 L92 T-10 build started
I bought the big window cab, only thing worth it was the window. I cut it out and will graft it in sometime in the future, pics soon.

Re: 56 L92 T-10 build started
When I read the beginning of your first post, and saw that it was chassis-swapped, my first thought was "God I hope he fixed the wheel/axle alignment". So chassis-swapped trucks end up with the wheels offset strangely, or the axle too far forward or aft in the well.
Your first pick with the black wheels showed signs of the same problem, but then I scrolled down another few inches and saw the new setup. HUGE difference. Those chrome wheels look way better in terms of fitment/stance. I think they might actually look good black, but that depends on your final vision for the build. Nice work dude. |
Re: 56 L92 T-10 build started
Thanks for the compliment, they are actually polished billet. Built to your specs as a customer so the offset was made to order. As for the wheel finer front to rear in the wheel well, it's not perfect but then again nothing is!
Quick question, I found a killer deal on a 1998 C3500 Hydroboost setup. I should be able to make this work on my 56 Cab with a few fab tools? I'm hoping I can just T into the low pressure return line on the L92 Powersteering pump. Thoughts? |
Re: 56 L92 T-10 build started
Should work fine, grab the booster along with the unit. You'll need to mod/fab a bracket for it to bolt to the firewall, and possibly mod the rod to the pedal for proper length and engagement.

Re: 56 L92 T-10 build started
Few Updates
Got my new RCI Aluminum tank, will have to cut a hole to add a walbro 255 intank fuel pump. I'm not a fan of external pumps, too noisy and not much life out of them. Any ideas on putting a tank inside? Added a external fuel door, I will end up installing a wood bed above my C-Notch bridge. I will run a chunk of hose from the the fuel door over the Jaz fill port. Re: 56 L92 T-10 build started
Few little updates, got the firewall cutout and filler metal welded in. Got all the holes covered and welded up. Painted it with bed liner along with the inner fender's. Cleaned and painted the frame and made new cab mounts. Gonna start making the new tranny mount this week. Should be able to finish the exhaust up also.

Re: 56 L92 T-10 build started
When I bought the truck the previous owner hacked the front rad support and used a 1984 rad support. It looked really bad to say the least. Half the battle on this truck is fixing the hack work from the previous owner. Anyway I had to cut the bottom of the inner fenders to clear the newer a-arms and the power steering box, still needs more. Had to trim and cut on the 56 rad support to get it to fit somewhat to the frame. Gonna make some supports for the 56 rad support to the 84 chassis. Everything is really tight but always doable with a cut off wheel and welder. The champion radiator seems nice and has lifetime warranty. Making progress, just SLOW!

Re: 56 L92 T-10 build started
Looking for any leads on a harness guy. I know PSI and Seartech will do it, but damn$$$!!. Thought about do it myself but if I can send it off and get it back ready to go for $250, the time for me is critical.

Re: 56 L92 T-10 build started
LS performance wiring on facebook, best price and they look awesome.
I just picked up a L92 longblock as well, need to do the DOD delete still. |
Re: 56 L92 T-10 build started
Let me know if you need help with part numbers, couldn't believe how much **** you need for the delete. Should be worth it.
|
Re: 56 L92 T-10 build started
I know Brian Tooley Racing sells a complete DOD delete kit for just south of $400 dollars, unless buying parts individually from the dealership is much less?
|
Re: 56 L92 T-10 build started
That might be your best bet, I used the stock L92 oil pump, they are high volume. I did change the oil pan out for the CTSV pan, perfect for ground clearance.

Re: 56 L92 T-10 build started
Well plans changed! Came across a T56 out of a GTO, couldn't pass the chance to have a 6 speed. So out comes the T-10 and in goes the new goods. I'm running a B&M offset shifter which is good for 4" move foward and then I can run a old school Hurst bench seat Chevelle shift stick. Should be good I hope.

Re: 56 L92 T-10 build started
The Vette headers cleared the T-10 very well, looks like the T-56 is gonna pose some issues. Cutting and welding. It will work someway somehow. I will post pics after I get the Vbands welded up.
|
Re: 56 L92 T-10 build started
Got the headers welded up. Figure once I get it all exactly how I want it I will send it off for jet hot coating. I ordered a 24" long 3.5" in and out muffler. It will be a dual 3" out of the headers to a y pipe into the muffler and then the single out just in front of the rear axle.
Tranny shifter sits pretty far back, no big SUPRISE. I will end up running a Hurst bench set shifter handle to clear the the seat. I also plan to notch the seat and modify the frame of the seat for this. Will look nice when I get the leather put on. Ofcourse my newly made tranny crossmember had to be rebuilt. http://i601.photobucket.com/albums/t...B5E71811D2.jpg http://i601.photobucket.com/albums/t...B0646497B9.jpg http://i601.photobucket.com/albums/t...A8E626E37E.jpg http://i601.photobucket.com/albums/t...377200DED0.jpg http://i601.photobucket.com/albums/t...ABFCA184ED.jpg |
Re: 56 L92 T-10 build started
i've seen kits that relocate the shifter to grab the shift rails thru the front inspection plate. might look into that. and the output shaft swap and you'll be rollin. lookin for t56 myself. damn expensive chunks of metal they are.
