4x4 guys looky what I found!

Was browsing a local junkyard looking for some stuff for the wife's passat. I come to a lot that has a 70 Chevelle ss a mid 60's cougar and a bunch of muscle from that time period, however at the front of the lot there's a few 64-66 Chevy trucks and... 3 71-72s. 1 short fleet, 1 short step, and this...
http://i1262.photobucket.com/albums/...psflnzg2ky.jpg

'71 350/sm 465/205 custom deluxe k/20. Mostly all original on a 10-15 year old paint job, NO RUST ANY WHERE! Some pretty big dents on the passenger side bedside. Mostly complete, except for the seat, the marker lights and a few other odds and ends. I climbed around it a bit and it appears to have all the original cab corners, rockers etc.
My heart starts to patter a bit so I decide to ask what they want for it....
Here the kicker.... 6,000! It's been sitting long enough that the tires are flat and the wheels have sunk into the mud a bit. I'm sure it's been there a minimum of 5 years probably longer. Needless to say quite a bit more than I'm willing to pay. Its sad because It's got a lot of potential.

Where's this located? In need of some fenders for a 63c10!

Re: 4x4 guys looky what I found!

If its that solid I would give 5k all day. Lot of cool stuff in your area use to go wheeling in
Chokecherry canyon and actually won the first super crawl there in 02

Re: 4x4 guys looky what I found!

That's what I said... As I walked out I said "good luck selling it", and the guy said "oh it won't be a problem" and I said "ya I bet"
There were a few obscenities floating around in my head cuz id love to bring this one home and do a "Deadheadnm style" resto on it and bring it back to its original oe glory...
As for location... Not telling don't want it to disappear haha. I'm thinking about giving it a few months and offering 3,000 to see what happens.
I drive past chokecherry pretty frequently. I wanted to take my lifted wj down there before I took the lift off but never made it. My 3100 will see it eventually.

well , they shouldn't be selling parts off it , all the lights are gone , you would think they would tape it off, it is a nice truck , but they are out there even cheaper

It's taped off it was probably brought in that way. Signs all around said don't touch this vehicle

It was kinda rough, yellow with black stripes no interior. It may have been an ss clone for all I know. (Trucks are my primary knowledge) there wasn't any major rust on it that I could see tho.

Re: 4x4 guys looky what I found!

A quick way to tell if it is an SS Chevelle the dash gauges are round, unless they were swapped. Most clones aren't.
Cool find.

Any goodies on it like a no spin or AC? I would think you couldn't go wrong for 4k or less unless the driveline is missing or shot. I'd give 5k all day long as well if it were closer to me. Prices for good bodies are lower where you are since you're not in the rust belt. K20's that aren't beat to crap or fully restored are hard to find. They were bought to be worked hard.

You know I can't stop thinking about this truck. I'm gonna try and go back in a little while with some cash and see if I can work a deal. He's not getting 6 but I do agree a un destroyed k/20 is hard to find. My dad has one and I wouldn't mind one either. As for options the doors were locked I assume to prevent people from stealing stuff out of it. However... I noticed a few things that make me wonder if it's a highlander. It had green interior with deluxe door panels and what appered to be pretty worn oe green carpet. It also had chrome vent windows, windshield and rear glass trim. The seat is missing tho.

Not all K/20s were bought to run hard and put away wet. Many were the pride and joy of the owner, just like many of these trucks in other configurations. You don't buy a Cheyenne Super to beat on it. Many were only used for get-away vehicles, such as camper hauler, travel trailer, boat, Jeep, or race car tow rigs. I've had quite a few, most high optioned, that were low mile exceptional condition. same with many C/20s, but K/20s are fewer

If you like it at $3k make an offer. All they can do is say no and wimper a bit.

What WOULD you pay? Take that much cash and go down there and see if they can turn you down.

leddzepp 01-31-2015 12:47 AM

Re: 4x4 guys looky what I found!

The trucks in the best condition are usually C/20 custom campers. Used primarily for recreation, the beds are like new and the body is not rusted or dented due to being stored in a garage or under a car port and cared for.

Re: 4x4 guys looky what I found!

^^^ Yep, and there were Custom Camper k/20s...just not as many. I've had Custom Camper/30s without a rattle or a squeak. Can't say that about an old work truck

Re: 4x4 guys looky what I found!

I came across one last week in perfect condition. Luckily someone else bought it and saved me from myself  If it had been a K/20, I would have driven it home that night.

While this is true of the original owners, over the years sadly the majority were sold off and snatched up by farmers. landscapers, rock haulers, scrap haulers, etc and worked to death. How many 1 owner K/20's are left? Just more useful than a 2wd or 1/2 ton for heavy work. Also nephews and many bubbas ran them into the ground as mud trucks. I wish I could have been involved with buying these trucks in the 80's and 90's when they could still be found not destroyed or unrestored. You've had some nice ones for sure, like that blue and white highlander.

I'm pretty sure it's safe for the time being, I gotta round up some green and see what I can do. What I really need is one of them ultra rare money trees planted in the front yard...In all honesty I'm gonna do what I can to get it. Like I said I envision a Pete style resto on this baby!

No Highlanders in 71. If it was a Highlander the carpet should be black not green and the door panels would be parchment. Looks like driver's door, fender, rocker were a respray so make sure and take your magnets with you.

Re: 4x4 guys looky what I found!

I'd offer $1000 & that's it. If it's missing stuff, sitting at a wreckers it'll need drivetrain work for sure. For $3-6gs & being in New Mexico you should be able to one way better in AZ, NV or other neighbouring states. You can get this K5 cheaper & way cooler lol http://albuquerque.craigslist.org/cto/4864798220.html

http://showlow.craigslist.org/cto/4868617949.html Not bad

http://albuquerque.craigslist.org/cto/4846225577.html Even better

http://flagstaff.craigslist.org/cto/4815398498.html Nice looks like a decent deal

See there's still a bunch of 4x4s around way better deals than a wrecker asking $6gs

It's locked but they left the slider open? They better shut that to hold that high value.

Does it have a set of aluminum slots on it?

Ya no kidding I can just see the dollar bills blowing In the wind... Ya It does have a set of aluminum slots on it.

As for the highlander... Doh! I knew that! I blame the truck it put me in a trance lol.

I've seen all those trucks on cl except the last one. The price is pretty decent. I'm not in a huge hurry but I would like to get a decent k/20 I'm the next few years. If I can find one at the right price I'll keep my Cheyenne 2 wheel drive and build later or maybe sell it off.

Well damn guys I went down to this yard again almost 4 years to the day... sorry it’s rotated I thought I took one that would be friendly to the forum but I didn’t. Still all in the same shape minus the grille, except now it’s almost settled to the axles. Wish someone could save this one.

I should have asked but I was in a hurry to get back home. I’m sure it’s still an arm and a leg or it wouldn’t be there.

I don't have any more room... it's a good thing, otherwise I might be interested. ;) Missed this thread back in 2015. Can't believe it's still sitting there! What a bummer. Are the doors still locked? I'd love to see what's on the SPID, and it's only an hour away...

Gettin' there. Probably wants more now that they brought the value down with it requiring a nice used grille to go with the rest of the unrestored survivor truck's value.

How many times have you all seen this situation. I'm old enough now I've seen dozens of great old iron ready for the shredder when father time (vandals, weather, thieves, fire, accidents, animals, family, etc.) is finished having his way......... :(
