The Mad 72 k20
I have been reading this forum for years. Lots of great info on this site. Finally decided to start my build thread. So here we go. I bought this 72 k20 from a friend. My friend owned it for several years he decided to take it all apart and have the engine rebuild and the truck painted. Well the guy that was supposed to paint it painted about 1/4 of it and skipped town. The truck sat for about 8 or 9 years. I tried my hardest to get the truck. Finally 1 and 1/2 years ago he sold it to me.

Re: The Mad 72 k20
Would love to add some photos can anyone help me understand how to.

Re: The Mad 72 k20
If you upload them to photobucket it will be easier to copy/paste them
If they are online already, just click the tan box at the bottom of this page with the little mountain on it, and insert the URL/Web address there! |

Nice color!

Re: The Mad 72 k20
Well I pulled it the rest of the way apart. The paint was peeling off in quite a few spots. I pulled the 402 big block sold it. I had a 5.3 out of a 2000 silverado that I was going to use In a jeep project. (had to sell jeep to pay for this project )

Re: The Mad 72 k20
I pulled the 5.3 apart looked looked really good. No cylinder ridge took crank to the machine shop it was perfect just a polish. I replaced the rings and bearings cam bearings. I also got a takeout 2000 ls1 camshaft off of eBay. Also replaced oil pump lifters and timing chain.

I have been really busy working on wiring and doing some dash work.
|
Re: The Mad 72 k20
Coming together nicely! Just a heads-up. GM painted the top of the dash to match the dash pad and with a flat finish to reduce glare. My orange K20 with a parchment interior had a black dash pad and the dash top was painted a flat black.

Re: The Mad 72 k20
Being a big 519 fan, dark yellow or an orange that has always been a question for me as well. Either way it looks good!
But being a serious numbers guy there is something that comes to mind. The door data plate decodes for a C20 4x2 truck and it has clearly replaced/no-factory rivets. Being as the chassis is a 4x4 I must ask do any of the numbers match your title and will that be a problem? |
Re: The Mad 72 k20
The #s do match the title not sure exactly when it was converted.
|
Re: The Mad 72 k20
Subscribed. I have a 1970 K20 that I just purchased and a huge K20 fan.
Looking forward to seeing your progress. Take care and have fun, Tom |
Re: The Mad 72 k20
Great so you are on top of that. Its a hard question to ask but I hate to see people with a project they can't title. Or even worse have it impounded during a VIN verification.

Little update. I ended up using the radiator out of the donor truck. Fits pretty well. Also bought a couple of electric fans off of eBay.

Re: The Mad 72 k20
Sweet!

Re: The Mad 72 k20
Made the stupid mistake of masking with cheap plastic drop cloth. Overspray flaked off and was floating everywhere when I was shooting 2nd coat of high yield.
