Re: 1970 C10 AWD Project
Interesting
What is parts availability like in Puerto Rico? |
Re: 1970 C10 AWD Project
I had a good friend who lived part time in P.R. Its a mix of US and Import cars so I knew some guys with old Chevy's, and others with Import-only diesels that we can't get in the mainland.
You guys still doing the dune-climbs and stuff out in the sand? |

Sweet build

Re: 1970 C10 AWD Project
how did you mount up the suburban front axle/suspension? I have been trying to find a drivers side drop dana 44, but they are not real common apparently. so this would be another option.
thx |
Re: 1970 C10 AWD Project
Twin turbo, LS, AWD C10.......hell yes! Fricking sweet!!!

Re: 1970 C10 AWD Project
What hub did you use to get the 5 lug pattern or did you have it redrilled? Any other pictures of the front suspension? Pretty slick project!

Re: 1970 C10 AWD Project
Cool build. Love the twin blow dryers:metal:

Re: 1970 C10 AWD Project
what AWD t-case are you using? NVG-149?
|
Re: 1970 C10 AWD Project
Yes!! NV 149 For the Moment, But im working on GM 246 this unit is servo motor controlled so mean i can use AWD just when i needed by a flip of button or automatic mode.

Re: 1970 C10 AWD Project
Very interesting build.....I like it.
I know you don't have good parts availability there in PR, but I wonder if an AWD Astro/Safari hub would bolt up to the spindle and fit the axle. Those are already 5 x 5. |
Re: 1970 C10 AWD Project
not familiar with the GM246 unit.....but know that the NVG-149 is one b@d@$$ AWD unit. The torque split is awesome and they can handle all kinds of HP. Guys putting all kinds of power to them....like a Gear Vendors OD. I owned a '01 Sierra C3 and wish I had never let it go. Amazing traction in nearly any scenario....pulled a Mustang uphill on slick ice and never spun a wheel...on stock Michelins....then found out he had is e-brake on the whole time and that I was dragging vs pulling him. LOL! Just one example.

Hi, ive a Silverado SS with twin Turbo Setup with 800 Hp at the wheels it currenly have an nv 149 behind of 4l80e with input shaft adapter we have lot troubles with the vicous coupler to handle big power, i dont know if in the market have aftermarket vicous coupling can handle more power. |
Re: 1970 C10 AWD Project
Wow.....I think your the 1st I've heard that's found the limits of one.

Re: 1970 C10 AWD Project
THe 246 is a computer controlled multiplate diff, and its also a 2speed. I've heard crazy good things about their speed of activiation and how crazy precise they are. The multiplates can kinda act like a viscous but from what I understand, handle more power since the level of "drag" cant be contolled with the computer. I think you can also mess with the allowed rates of difference, so like only allow axle rpms of difference (don't quote me on that last part, I was reading into it myself)
As for the 149 failing, I've seen a few threads on yellowbullet and a handful more on the TBSS and Silverado SS forums. Guys bust the chains, which sometimes damages the case. The biggest problem seems to be that the 4l80e output conversion ends up failing. A guy on pirate4x4 mentioned some concerns with heavy large diameter whees (speciafically offroad stuff, but the weight of big rims would apply the same). The jist of it was that the heavy rotational mass and large diameter can mean a ton of heat and problems with the differential speed at each axle. The large wheels change the way it reacts to the torque biasing, because they have a different # of rpms. I'm probably not exlpaining it that well. |
Re: 1970 C10 AWD Project
This is so flipping cool I have to sub to it.

Re: 1970 C10 AWD Project
A true hot rodder, thinking outside the box !
Great project ! |

Re: 1970 C10 AWD Project
Ok, you have me hooked. AWD is about the best thing since pockets on a shirt.

Thats pretty legit. Nice work.

Re: 1970 C10 AWD Project
This is exactly what I want to do with my blazer. I just purchased a 83 k5 blazer within the last month.
|
Re: 1970 C10 AWD Project
too cool.
|
Re: 1970 C10 AWD Project
I would love to do that to mine. Around where I live some ppl give me crap for having a lowered 2wd truck. One guy told me I should just junk my truck n get a REAL 4wd truck. If I made mine awd I can still have a low truck with awd traction...best of both worlds
|
Re: 1970 C10 AWD Project
That's exactly was I was thinking with my blazer. Everyone around here has some kind of lifted 4x4 truck. Would really like to drop my blazer to be different but still maintain four wheel drive. Also dropping it low might upset some people and that makes me laugh. Ill be watching closely for updates.
